It's cleaner…read moreand more organized than E-Mart and Arirang, but the prices on most of their items are way higher than their 2 competitors. They have a good selection of veggies that you normally use for korean dishes and their pre-made side dish corner is great as well. I have tried their Kimchi and raw squid with spicy sauce, and they were good. They also have some snacks, frozen goods, and candies that both E-Mart and Arirang do not carry, which is nice. The service is okay, most of the employees stocking the shelves don't ask if you need anything, even when you seem like you're lost or looking for something you couldn't find. Their cashiers are pretty quick even though I have only seen one till open, mind you, it's never busy when we visit. There has only been 5-7 people at most whenever we came for groceries. Overall, A-mart is a good korean grocery store closer to people living in the SE, but just keep an eye on the prices and wait for sales for your favorite items.

A+ for A-Mart. This small sister store to Arirang on 10th avenue is clean, bright and deceivingly…read morepacked with Korean, Japanese and Asian delicacies. I LOVE that the product labels have clear English translations and prices. Never will I ever again buy gochujang thinking I picked up a mild spicy level, but in actuality it's lap-dance-on-your-tongue. The Korean staples are all there: kimchi, hot pepper pastes and flakes, soybean pastes, soy sauces, oodles of noodle etc. There's also standard Asian produce along with Korean must-haves such as peeled garlic cloves, Perilla leaves, and chili peppers. Marinated meats are also available to bbq at home. Be sure to pick up some freshly, homemade side dishes such as seasoned baby crab and kimbap. The aisles are stocked with enough Korean snacks, and dried goods to satisfy your taste buds during a zombie apocalypse. Also super handy to have during the apocalypse are 16 litre kimchi Tupperwares big enough for a lifetime supply of kimchi (for a non-Korean), or one week's supply for Koreans. If you're environmentally friendly, A-Mart also supplies earthen kimchi pots in their humble kitchenware corner. Don't be afraid to walk on the Korean side at A-Mart. Hearing Gangnam Style as you wander the store will make you feel right at home. They get brownie points for ALMOST getting me to dance...almost. :)

SCAMMED AT CHRISTMAS DO NOT ORDER THEIR PRE COOKED TURKEY…read more This was a bait-and-switch pricing situation, and the timing made it impossible to refuse. I placed an online order on December 15 for a 6 kg cooked and carved turkey for Christmas pickup on December 24 at 2:00 pm. The price at checkout was $81. On December 16, my order was confirmed and changed to a 7.705 kg turkey for $104.02. I accepted that change. That confirmed amount should have been the final price. At 9:00 a.m. on December 24 (Christmas Eve), I received an email stating the price had increased again -- this time to $146.02. I was at work until 2:00 p.m., the scheduled pickup time, and had no opportunity to cancel, dispute, or make alternative arrangements. When I arrived to pick up the turkey at 2:00 p.m., I was told I had to pay the higher amount. At that point, I had no real choice. The turkey was already prepared, it was Christmas Eve, and refusing would have meant having no turkey for Christmas. Sending a price increase email five hours before pickup, knowing customers cannot reasonably pivot on a major holiday, felt coercive and unfair. Changing the price after confirmation and notifying customers at the last possible moment is unacceptable. The confirmed price should be the price charged, not a surprise increase when customers are effectively trapped. This caused unnecessary stress and left me feeling taken advantage of.

I'm guessing that fresh (not delivered far across the city) they would be even MOAR amazing. I look forward to sampling them on site. The sausage had an unexpected kick and was full of yum. The prepared salads are flavoursome. I really enjoyed the sautéed vegetables and the leftovers tasted great in a soup I made the next day. I prefer pork cabbage rolls but these vegetarian ones were excellent with a nice spice to them. The accompanying tomato sauce to spread over them was very tasty.

While their to-go hot food section doesn't have very many vegetarian options, what they do have is delicious. There were weeks I would eat them everyday and still not get sick of them. They also sell them frozen for you to take home and cook for yourself. Be warned: the potatoes sell out quickly after lunch so make sure you get there early if you want some. The market itself is a lot of fun to browse. His fatty hungarian is the winter bomb, and the roasted bacon (that's right, ROASTED BACON) is a gift from the gods of meat preparation. I suggest that you peruse and randomly choose what looks appealing your first time. There is sooo much, you WILL be back. This guy is the sausage man for Calgary. Regarding his cuts of meat, I have only done his pork tenderloin -- it was exactly what I wanted. They also offer lots of other Polish things. Their fresh sauerkraut and pickles are better than almost anywhere else (Jan's gives him a run though), his smoked mackerel is as good as Jan's, and his scratch perogie selection is a cut above -- avoid the sauerkraut ones, they don't freeze as well as the others (sauerkraut perogies are best fresh). Lots of canned goods, spices, sweets, preserves et cetera. Just remember -- this is THE sausage guy. Closed Mondays, go to Bon-Ton then. Only then. Or wait for Miertek to open tuesday...
