Wow, this place has gone through major renovations since the last time I've been here. I use to come here once a year to buy Inca kola for my students during our Peru unit. Back then it was dirty and I would never eat there! I have since moved to Toronto and back to Calgary and saw good reviews about this place. My husband first checked it out and raved about their tacos and the quality of food and to my surprise he was right! I ordered the tacos and they were very good. Generous portion of meat and I also had a guava juice which was perfect not too sweet. It's so much cleaner, more organized and a store that I would enjoy shopping at! I live very close to this store and will come back for more latin food!!! They have a huge selections and different things to try!

This place is a gem. I got the Fried Tilapia (pictured) and subbed out the rice and fries for salad and plantains. My friend got one of the bowls. Portions were bananas and flavours were on point. Plantains don't really hold up to the more Caribbean style, but all in all this place gets top marks. Coffee was better than expected as well.

This review is specifically about the eat in portion of the business. Previous reviews have mentioned a sandwich bar and I do recall seeing one before the renovations, but now they offer a variety of hot Mexican dishes. I tried two of the four or five kinds of tacos and both were delicious. Add some fresh toppings, pick from three or four homemade salsas ranging from no heat to dangerous, and you have an excellent meal. At $3 per taco, the size and quality is hard to beat. My only real complaint is that, with no posted menu, ordering is a bit daunting unless you speak Spanish, which most of the clients seem to do. I ordered the beef and pastor tacos as I was familiar with them, but I'll have to learn some Spanish so I can go back and try everything else.

But like why didn't anyone tell me this place existed??? This place is a gem!! Parking- unlimited, store is huge, staff is nice, cafeteria is huge (indoor and outdoor), they got a taco restaurant, coffee bar, fresh vegetables and grocery section. And they have BIRRIA tacos!!! If you're thinking of trying? GO!!

My overall experience was quite good ! Having a mexican girlfriend who is worrying about coming here and not having her large selection of products, this little market really made her feel better. Only missing the fresh Chile Serano but hey ! We can make it work. They have a very large selection of typical products. (sweets, drinks, sauces, produces, etc..) I also took the time to eat some tacos. They were really good, however the pastor isn't like what you might have in mind. It's more like ground pork than slices ! And also, a bit pricey (10.50$/3 tacos). Overall, it was a good experience and I will be back !

Cheap quality Mexican/Colombian food. On our first visit, we tried the Mexican bowl, Carne Asada Taco, Pork Belly, Chicken and Beef empanada and cake (I forgot what kind of cake and also to take a picture). Then we came back for breakfast and tried their Calentao and Huevos Mexicanos with side order of Pork Belly (love the pork belly). We will come back for sure to try the other dishes. Friendly staff.

We have bought nutmeg, ginger, whole all-spice, cinnamon, cloves and other spices there, and they are right up there in quality, and price. As their wee shop is in the Calgary Farmer's Market off Blackfoot south of Glenmore, bring some cash also for fresh produce, meat, fish, and of course a great modest breakfast and Analog coffee. Well worth the visit both to Silk Road and the market Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Because Silk Road doesn't seem to specialize in asian cuisine, an alternative that carries mostly Indian spices may be found at Bombay Spices on 36th near T&T Marlborough, or at Basha Foods off Barlow Trail.

So lo and behold, when I stumbled across an outlet at the Calgary Farmers Market I was very happy...I could get a preview of what their main store was like. They have a tiny little booth at the market with cool spice blends. There were some "popular" flavour profiles, along with some herbs and spice combos and individual spcies that were a little out of the ordinary. They also offered a few different gift sets that were "themed: (BBQ etc). I picked up one of those and two individual spice bottles to try too, including a Cajun mix that added a tasty flavour to the steak and shrimps we ate that night. My only issue with this booth are that the spice description signs are small and very hard to read, especially on the lover shelves. This was too bad because the ones I could read were very interesting - telling me what the spices would work well with or in the case of spices like Mace, what they are similar too. In appreciate space is at a premium but I felt like I was missing out by not being able to read them. I suspect that this kiosk is geared more towards people who know their products well and just want to grab herbs and spices and go rather than take the time to browse and learn. Prices were good and the quality is there so I'd return for sure.

The cashier, an older middle-aged blonde woman, verbally attacked myself and my children, in front of a store full of people. As I apologized profusely that my toddler had grabbed a pair of tongs while I was not looking (which I immediately took away before he could touch any food), the cashier loudly proclaimed, "This is why some people shouldn't have children." and repeatedly asked me if I was blind or "just stupid." As soon as I got to my car, I broke down in to tears, while another customer who witnessed the incident followed me out to let me know that what the cashier was saying was not true, or okay (the verbal abuse was so bad that other customers were shaken just witnessing it). I have never been spoken to so rudely by another human being, let alone someone in a customer service position. Upon reading the reviews, I can see that multiple other customers have given 1-star reviews based solely on the behavior of this same cashier, who is racist, speaks down to customers, and is unkind to children. The incident has been reported to Bulk Barn's head office. Hopefully if enough people step up to let management know how unacceptable this is, something will finally be done to prevent this behavior from continuing. Do better, Bulk Barn.

I was told that there was nothing wrong with the item besides it having less salt and all I got was the apology I asked what about the money I spent on Khandvi and if I could get any credit for that amount. I was told they can do nothing about it. I am a grown woman who has been cooking for past 48 years and know what a burnt food tastes like. this kind of customer service doesn't work in Canada . I hope they change their approach when they have people complaining about the products. Even the businesses in India have changed over the years and provide a better customer service than the one I experienced today. just wanted to alert others about how the staff at the store washes their hands off once they sell their products. I was also told that it's the third party that prepares those meals for them and they have no control over the quality of the food! think before you buy their fresh cooked items.
