Love Arirang, but really wish it was a bit bigger and better organized(and cleaner). My fvorite part about Arirang is that it is the only grocery store in Calgary where I can find different kinds of yam noodles! And if you do not like making kimchi at home, Arirang has the closest to homemade kimchi perfection you can find in the city. Their ramyun selection is massive and they also have a huge selection of side dishes, sticky rice cakes, and some warm sweet potatoes. They also have a good selection of Japanese cooking staples and sushi ingredients if you are looking for things other than Korean grocery items. Also, they have a small section for household/kitchen items at the far right hand side of the store past the noodles. I would have given them 5 stars if the store wasn't as cluttered and disorganized. There are some boxes on the floor and it gets pretty hard to navigate in the store when it gets busy. But other than that I love everything about Arirang and definitely recommend it!

In terms of cleanliness, I found raw fish (Pollack) that was not refrigerated and had been left out for over a month on a shelf see attached pictures. (Yelp deleted the picture of the rotting food placed on the store shelf, citing it was not adhering to Yelp photo guidelines). Since the photo was deleted I'll describe it. It was raw fish that was wrapped in plastic wrap. It had turned brown and was growing mold with fuzz on it. This place is also a death trap case and point leaving box cutters on shelves accessible by young kids. See picture. I will not be returning here anytime soon.

Here's a refreshing change in grocery store; Arirang whisks you away to the Orient just by stepping through their doors. There are grocery staples here plus attached to the store is an area with kitchen accessories and beauty products also from Korea and Japan. There is everything here from oriental sauces to Japanese candy. Don't worry there are English translations too, to make shopping for everyone really easy. Prices seem reasonable but what impressed me the most was the size of the store, there must have been 10 rows of produce and hard to find food staples here. So if you are a fan of Asian cooking, at Arirang you don't have to travel all the way to the T & T or pay for high parking in Chinatown, this grocery store has a free parking area in front and is located just behind the Staples store on 10th Avenue SW. An added bonus is the Korean and Japanese butcher area which carries fresh meats and poultry. Arirang, a nice exotic option for grocery shopping right downtown.

They got new fridges!

SCAMMED AT CHRISTMAS DO NOT ORDER THEIR PRE COOKED TURKEY…read more This was a bait-and-switch pricing situation, and the timing made it impossible to refuse. I placed an online order on December 15 for a 6 kg cooked and carved turkey for Christmas pickup on December 24 at 2:00 pm. The price at checkout was $81. On December 16, my order was confirmed and changed to a 7.705 kg turkey for $104.02. I accepted that change. That confirmed amount should have been the final price. At 9:00 a.m. on December 24 (Christmas Eve), I received an email stating the price had increased again -- this time to $146.02. I was at work until 2:00 p.m., the scheduled pickup time, and had no opportunity to cancel, dispute, or make alternative arrangements. When I arrived to pick up the turkey at 2:00 p.m., I was told I had to pay the higher amount. At that point, I had no real choice. The turkey was already prepared, it was Christmas Eve, and refusing would have meant having no turkey for Christmas. Sending a price increase email five hours before pickup, knowing customers cannot reasonably pivot on a major holiday, felt coercive and unfair. Changing the price after confirmation and notifying customers at the last possible moment is unacceptable. The confirmed price should be the price charged, not a surprise increase when customers are effectively trapped. This caused unnecessary stress and left me feeling taken advantage of.

Well, this is a cute little Mediterranean grocery store where you can buy unusual food and…read moreingredients. It's located in a strip mall, and isn't all that big, but it serves its purpose all the same. They sell a bunch of different stuff like canned goods, fresh vegetables, and even hookah pipes and coals. This surprised me when I went in. And, man, do they have some good prices in there! I mean, I bought a giant bag of carrots for only $1.50, something that would cost at least $3 in a regular supermarket. They were also selling bags of ginger for only $0.99. I don't use ginger that much, but at that price I couldn't refuse. Now I need to make some for dinner consisting of carrots and ginger! I might just go out of my way to stop by here. A regular grocery store would sell the same stuff as this place, but for much more money. I guess you pay for the convenience of having large chains nearby.

The prices are AMAZING and their selection is impressive. They've got everything from baklava to Jordan almonds, fresh produce to halwa. It's conveniently located in a strip mall that's got a ginormous Shopper's Drug Mart, and yes, a Tim Horton's as well. Do some shoppin', have some java and get all the ingredients you need for that fab Mediterranean dinner, all in one stop. What could be better?

I guess they're mostly 'fakirs', hyuk! I am not Polish so I cannot spell or pronounce things, but I think the owner/maker is called Miertek. Anyway you slice it, this is the guy to come to if you want locally produce cured/smoked meats and sausages. His fatty hungarian is the winter bomb, and the roasted bacon (that's right, ROASTED BACON) is a gift from the gods of meat preparation. I suggest that you peruse and randomly choose what looks appealing your first time. There is sooo much, you WILL be back. This guy is the sausage man for Calgary. Regarding his cuts of meat, I have only done his pork tenderloin -- it was exactly what I wanted. They also offer lots of other Polish things. Their fresh sauerkraut and pickles are better than almost anywhere else (Jan's gives him a run though), his smoked mackerel is as good as Jan's, and his scratch perogie selection is a cut above -- avoid the sauerkraut ones, they don't freeze as well as the others (sauerkraut perogies are best fresh). Lots of canned goods, spices, sweets, preserves et cetera. Just remember -- this is THE sausage guy. Closed Mondays, go to Bon-Ton then. Only then. Or wait for Miertek to open tuesday...
