They were quick and efficient, and got through us all in no time. Up on the wall is the menu in both English and Vietnamese. The star of the menu is of course the banh mi (Vietnamese meat roll). For under $5 you get a crispy roll, with meat and other fresh fillings. My roll didn't seem as fresh and crispy as some that I've had but it was still nice, and I would have liked to have my roll a little more full. I was seriously contemplating going back for seconds. There are two small tables to sit inside, but most people choose to grab one on the go. It's definitely popular amongst people working at the tafe, or local tradies working nearby. There is a carpark as part of the attached shopping centre.

I've left Adelaide a few times to live interstate and overseas and every time I come home, I beg my…read morefamily to take me to Sunflower. As sad as this makes me sound, I'll admit that I never change my order and I can recite it off by heart because I am absolutely besotted with the menu at this family-run establishment. We always start with their quail entree- the best in Adelaide. A flavour bomb in its own right, I'm pretty sure it's been marinated in some sort of soy, chunky lemongrass and garlic sauce before being grilled or fried to perfection. I don't know which method they cook it in and quite frankly, could not care less. A little bit of squeezed lemon and white pepper/salt seasoning on them and you'll quickly realise that half a quail will not suffice. Then onto the DIY cold rolls - sugar cane prawn and grilled pork balls. The platters come out piled with fresh herbs, pickled veggies, noodles and crushed roasted peanuts and sauces that make my tastebuds sing. A thick caramelish peanut chilli sauce and a sweet fish-sauce based sauce to dip or pour into your hand crafted cigars or goodness. You'll soon lose count of how many cold rolls you attempted to create and devour. And the mains: Beef salad, salt n pepper squid and a rice hot pot. BOOM. End of conversations at the dinner table as everyone just falls into chewing silence and nods of mutual appreciation. The salad is fragrant, fresh, and a bit tart, while the squid is deliciously crisp and perfectly tangy, the hot pot will be a textural wonderland for the tastebuds. The service is always super lovely... We have been coming here as a family for years and have seen the family owners serve us time and time again with grace and friendliness. I hope this place stays just the way it is - epically amazing!

The shop: Ms Chowki used to be strictly vegetarian/jain, but now does meat dishes under the name of Fennel (two restaurants under one roof, with one kitchen). Mismatched furniture from IKEA and vintage stores, bare floors and little insulation from noise, Bollywood movies and music. The drink: Wallet-friendly $1 chai in an environmentally-unfriendly styrofoam cup. The food: Consistently good food, excellent prices, extensive menu and generous serves in a shabby setting. Eating with fingers is encouraged, however cutlery is provided for those who look distressed. Renown for their dosas (crisp savoury lentil crepes served with vegetable stew and chutney) within the Adelaidean sub-continental community, however their pav bhaji (spicy vegetables in a tomato sauce served with a toasted buttered bun, raw onions and pickle) is my ultimate junk food: eaten with fingers, scaldingly hot, savoury and moreish. Their butter paneer masala is superior to most butter chicken dishes in Adelaide, with generous cubes of paneer and a sweet spicy sauce for dipping assorted naan breads. Desserts here are highly recommended by those who can appreciate Indian sweets: their housemade jalebi (funnel cakes soaked in sugar syrup) is reputedly often bought by the kilo on the weekends.

It's actually a Nepalese restaurant but if you, like me, are a fan of Indian food and haven't tried Nepalese before don't be intimidated by the different items on the menu. The menu is a good size and can be ordered to eat in at this small bit lovely classic looking restaurant or as takeaway (which, yes!! Is the cheaper option per meal). There are a couple of vegetarian options, the mishmash tahkaari being nice and flavoursome as we're both the other dishes we tried - the bhedar komasu and bahdami kukhura. The flavour of all the sauces were amazing so could easily be eaten with the rice and roti once all the meat was gone. With an average wait time of 20 minutes for takeaway I will definitely be trying some other menu items and recommending them to everyone.

Why you ask? because *attention attention* THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST BROKEN RICE IN ADELAIDE! yes, BEST, i mean it. The place is quite easy to find with a range of Viet food with all kind of noodles and vermicelli. However, their best and most authentic dish is still broken rice. I would recommend the combination broken rice which consists of pork, egg, shredded pork skins and some pickles veggies. Their other dish, however, is far from what the authentic dish tastes like. I've warned you. The price range around $8 - $10ish for food and $2-$5 for drinks. Best place to go for lunch but they also open for dinner (yes I'm Asian and I eat rice all day long - myth busted booooo). No reservation required. They do open on Sunday and probs close on Tue/Wed like any other restaurant. Give this one a try I swear it won't let you down.

We started with some seafood and appetizers to probe the quality. We weren't disappointed. The oysters kilpatrick were phenomenal and the vine leaf wrapped rice dipped in tzatziki are a new favourite. The salad and seafood were ridiculously fresh and we finished off the former in the dip. I should have ordered more seafood, which I will next time, but I went with the sirloin and a side of the chef's special rice. It was a sensational cut of beef that almost melted in my mouth in its medium-rareness. The mushroom sauce perfectly compliments the sirloin with its freshly sauteed mushrooms and the special chai-infused rice on the side. My brother opted for a chicken yiros main which was deliciously charcoal roasted. We both ate our fill and had to take the rest home because it was too good to leave behind. The warm atmosphere and singular keep it secluded and fast paced. He is hot on his feet and attentive. It shows class when a single person can wait on so many tables and sit down to talk to the customers. It seems really quiet for the most part but there are steady customers getting takeout on the weekdays. These people know good food at moderate prices. Given their comprehensive menu and the freshness of their seafood, I will be making this an eat in/take out regular.

Selecting from the lunch menu, the portions are very generous. Both the lunch specials ordered were $13 - Chicken souvlaki and lamb yiros - and were served with a generous number of crispy chips and a green garden salad. The chicken was a tad fatty but the lamb was well done. Both lunches had great flavor and were enough to conquer how hungry I was after a morning of climbing the lighthouse and looking at the sights of Port Adelaide. In addition to a lunch special, I also shared a garlic mash potato appetizer with flat bread. That was very tasty but left me with quite a garlicky stench later in the day (I don't think that is a bad thing but others may disagree). Staff were friendly and service was quick. This was definitely a great choice and I really enjoyed feasting on Hellenic cuisine.
