I'm quite particular about my hair. You might not know to look at me, but if I don't have it cut…read moreright, then it just looks even worse. Fine, very straight hair is always tricky to deal with a lot of hairdressers just try and make it bigger. Doesn't work. With fine hair, if the fringe goes a bit wrong then there is no going back, thinning or tinkering. It needs to be razor straight. So. I couldn't see anymore. I needed a trim. I rang some of the bigger names and some of them refused to trim it, even if I paid, if I hadn't had my hair cut there. Eventually, I gave up, wandered across the road and walked into the first hairdressers I could find. Hair Lounge was a pleasant surprise. It doesn't look much from outside, but inside it is plush and the staff are friendly. I tentatively asked if someone could do my fringe, even though I didn't have my hair cut there, and they were more than happy. I only waited a few minutes and a lovely chap came and got me. He cut my fringe, to my specifications (I know, a hairdresser that listens!) and did it all with a smile. I asked who to pay, and he tried to say there was no charge - so I left a tip. Don't know what it would be like for a full do, but if you're fringe has gone awry...

Immanuel Elegance is a pretty impressive salon that specialises in 'afro hair design', although not…read moreto the exclusion of all else. All hair types can be consummately dealt with here. Here's a list of what they can do: Barbering Weaving Plaiting Tinting Twists Cornrow Extensions Perming Relaxing Treatments Hair Cuts Dreadlocks Good isn't it!? Despite having very fine hair, I have had cornrows put in a couple of times. This look suits me, but generally doesn't stay looking good for long. In more recent years I have opted to have my hair braided instead, which lasts a lot longer. I usually have quite a lot of artificial hair inserted into each plait, which not only bulks them out nicely, but also helps to keep them looking really tidy. False hair isn't very expensive, and the cheaper it is the more wiry it comes, which is perfect for me! I once kept my braids in for three months, but by the end of it I was aching to take them out. My hair had started dreading at the roots, and the sheer weight of them was really beginning to put a strain on my neck. Removing the braids after this length of time poses a few extra problems. The braids themselves were still in pretty good condition and could be undone quite easily. It was the one inch section of dreads at my scalp that presented the real issue... the whole episode took about 16 hours! Having your hair braided is a lengthy process, but the results are worth it. It doesn't come cheap, and can cost up to £150 for full length braids that fall all the way down your back. But, when you consider that it takes three people six to seven hours, using quite a lot of artificial hair, it is actually really good value for money!!! Highly recommended! Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best times to book yourself in. 02920460990 07842437777

I had to comb out the tangles??I could not understand nor believe how much this place charged for a so called hairdressing service. Afro hair specialists? I would not go here, absolutely do not recommend it and when I called to complain? The lady was far too busy laughing to pay that much attention to me - avoid, avoid, avoid..... Overall terrible, should be reported to trading standards or something. DO NOT GO.

What an odd shop this is. From the front you'd think it was all wigs and hair products, but then…read moreyou go inside and you find that it sells food...? To be honest, the idea of eating something from the shop that sells hair makes me feel a little bit sick. I'm not good with hair the moment it comes of someone's head. Even fake plastic hair. Oh, goodness me, no. So, even though it's all very separate I did shy away from making any purchases. Fortunately, once I conquer my irrational hatred of hair, there is plenty for me to go back and investigate further. The prices are reasonable, the shop is independent and you can get your beauty products at the same time as your groceries - what's not to love? Well, the slight dinginess, giving me the feeling that I wasn't quite welcome, for one. And, for me, that's enough.

Shhhh don't tell anyone but I am a hair extension freak! Won't catch me without them!…read more.. So, with that said, I have scoured the general Cardiff market for the best hair extensions, considering service and knowledge, price, range, and quality. I keep going back to Kilimanjaro, as it ticks all the boxes for me! I don't have the time to properly look after my extensions, they are in/ out on a daily basis and I need extensions which can keep looking shiny and healthy for a long time despite my rough treatment of them. My current Kilimanjaro set I've had for nearly five months now, they've been straightened, waved, curled, plaited, you name it- and to my surprise, still looking good! They give you a lot for your money, enough for two whole sets. The choice range and overall variety, whatever you're colour or hair type you are bound to find the perfect match in Kilimanjaro. Lengths vary from 14 to 24 inches, and you can also buy wigs, clips, hair care, glue and much more. For my 16 inch, blonde, quality set of human hair, I paid roughly £45, which is a good ten pounds cheaper from the other extension shops in the city centre. However, if you have brunette or black hair, the prices are even cheaper (blonde hair is for some reason more expensive in comparison). The best thing about Kilimanjaro is the shop owner! The most welcoming, happy and smiling lady you may ever meet, and she treats you like a good friend she hasn't seen for years; she'll also give you helpful, expert advice if you need it.
