In fact, I feel as though my weekend feels rather incomplete if I can't do laundry in this special place--my little happy place (better than shopping on Amazon with prime. I know I am risking sounding too corny, as I continue to wax poetic about 8th St, but I realize now that this is like the proverbial microcosm of society. It may not be as hip as the old TV series called "Cheers", but I feel as though everyone comes here and everybody knows their name. I don't really run into people I know, curiously enough. Well, all my other friends do have their own laundry to do but they "choose" to forgo the fun of doing it like I do--at the laundromat LoL. But you see, I get to say "hi" to the kids who are for the most part well-behaved (and a few I almost tripped over as they were running in the aisles between the sea of industrial washers and dryers). I get to watch seniors who even at their age (some of them I guess must be at least septuagenarians), still wash their own clothes and live in their own homes, even if that means they have to use a walker or a cane to maneuver themselves around this place. I get to watch migrant workers who on their days off they can look forward to the cleansing ritual that perhaps wash away the dust of their toil and sacrifices just for the sake of their families who depend on them. But some of these guys are probably merely in their late teens or early 20s. It's a secret guilty pleasure to overhear part of their conversations--and regardless of place, birthright, or upbringing, men will always be boys. My point is, no matter who we are and where we are from, we all need to wear clean clothes. And 8th St Laundromat is THE place to be.

Modern Laundromat & Cleaners is in the Vons shopping center. It's large with a pretty big sign so…read moreeasy to spot on your way in the parking lot. There are plenty of parking spaces too. We had many loads after living on a boat so had to get to a laundromat where I could get a bunch done all at once. The first impression on the way in is that it is bright, clean with lots of washers and dryers. There is a change machine that works well plus there are snacks behind the counter for dry cleaning just in case you get the munchies during the wait. The person that works in the dry cleaning area is so nice as well. It was very busy the day (a Saturday) but I still found enough washers and dryers to get everything done. The walkway between the dryers and folding tables was a bit tight so you had to suck in as people went by to get their clothes out of the dryers but everyone was so nice & kind that it fun with all of us in the same laundry basket. The washers were clean outside and, more importantly, inside which cleans your clothes well. Prices were decent and the dryers got my clothes dry without begging for more quarters. I recommend Modern Laundromat and Cleaners. It is a great place to get your laundry done in good time. You could even get your shopping done at Vons, have lunch at Mozzarelli's Pizza or just get a drink & snack and read magazines in between loads.
