Hands down my 10 year old's and my favorite thing to do together is go to Yucandu. We've been well over a dozen times on our own, she's participated in many Kid's Night Out (she gets to make art, and my husband and I get a date night( win win!)), and holiday workshops, had a birthday party there that her friends still talk about 2 years later, and I've had a blast with a girlfriend (and wine!) at a ladies craft night. The staff has always been warm and welcoming, able to provide ideas and help if needed but also not pushy if you have your own ideas. The quality of the items is terrific, and I can't emphasize enough how great it is that the mess stays at Yucandu and not my house!

My review is not based on the price or quality of projects in the studio my review is based on the service or lack of customer service that we experience during our visit to you can do art studio. So the concept of this art studio is very cool the execution is not. I understand that some people come in here to work on existing projects every week and our expert but this business needs to work on the beginners who are walking into the first time don't unders stand where things are don't know the procedures don't know how to begin etc. We came in on a Tuesday in December never had been inside had no idea where to begin from the from the get go I personally felt like an imposition to the two ladies that were working there. They were more interested in sitting and working on their own projects then walking us through what the process looks like at the studio. There was one lady who is blonde and there was one lady who was Brunette. The blonde lady was not very nice at all in fact she was mean. I can imagine if I had a small shy child that they would be terrified of the ladies in there. Not a welcoming vibe at all. Just kind of passive aggressive comments as we went around annoyed by our questions annoyed by our requests etc. etc. if I were a rich person I would just knock off this concept and fill the studio with kind bubbly welcoming young artists who want to work with people who are not as comfortable in an art studio as they are. There are a lot of things at the store for example there's a lot of stuff everywhere which can be overwhelming and is frankly confusing. Not to mention that I made a $40 pencil holder. Now I totally get the studio fees I understand but if I'm paying $40 for pencil holder I want to have a positive experience with the staff that are working there. I don't want to feel like I don't belong or I am annoying them with my questions. Also there's no real clean place to hang clothes or purses so if you have any nice clothing or nice bag with you leave it in the car. I just felt like the experience could've been a lot better and process could be more clear OK you have to paint this and then you have to put the sealant on it and that this is what you do when you get to that. And then this is what you do once it's fully painted and more direction granted some people don't need that but that's why you need to have a beginners kind of guide to these projects. For $40 for pencil holder I don't want to feel bad asking someone for help when I'm paying for a studio fee. Overall not a great experience.

    Votive holder made at yucandu!

This camp offers kids from any income level the opportunity to go away to camp. They can learn to swim, climb a tower, perfect their artistic talents and so much more. The leadership program includes wilderness adventures of hiking and canoeing, takes them on college visits, lets them experience how volunteer service feels and gives them to skills to get to a job at the end of the 4 year program. While the kids think they are just having fun, the real goal is to give them the skills and desire to further their education...college or vocational...and break the cycle of poverty. It also is a wonderful work experience for young adults. Teaching them responsibility, exposing them to diversity and hopefully influencing their attitudes about the potential of all children if they are just given the opportunities and skills needed to succeed. If you are thinking of sending your kids to camp, SFC is a nurturing environment that will challenge them. They'll walk through the woods and sing songs around campfires. They'll make friends and learn the value of teamwork. They'll spend hours in the library and try new foods. They'll grow up with camp their second home. Start them young and keep sending them back.

We had concerns with the lack of educational experience of the owner, but decided to take a gamble since we loved the FORMER Educational Director. We also thought the school, with the way they describe themselves would have essential tools, resources etc since the owner clearly did not. Boy, were we wrong. Not long after starting the school, the Educational Director resigned due to not being able to get along with the owner who is a complete control freak (we heard this from multiple sources, including teachers). Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. The school at this location is like a revolving door with teachers and assistants. There is no consistency or stability. Once your child is assigned to a room, there could be multiple teachers pass by in a given year. I know this happens in day cares but for the money we were paying a month, which was over $1,400, I would not expect that much. A few observations that I would share that are very similar to the above poster are: * The owner is clueless on how to run a daycare facility. I believe she was in sales prior to opening this up. * The Education Director (and yes, I too cringe given this girl that much credit of a title), is very rude and unprofessional on sooooo many levels. It is amazing she is allowed to interact with any of the families, let alone be the face of the Goddard School....And yes, my husband and I were appalled to hear about the Christmas gift list, as well as her favorite store to shop for her Christmas present was Victoria Secrets...Really??? You work at a daycare for Gods sakes, get a clue!!! We both are not surprised at all by this. Also, she only holds and AS in early childhood education. PS - Look at other educational directors in other schools/day cares/preschools to see their degrees...night and day. * Daycare violation report - Child Left Alone - see fox2now files or http://fox2now.com/2013/08/06/map-daycare-violations-in-st-louis/ * The rooms are very overcrowded and chaotic - But per the owner, it meets state minimums....Really, you're charging me more than my mortgage payment and you are "following state minimums". I would expect this from a KinderCare, not somewhere I am shelling out that much money for. Lastly, by no means is this a vendetta against Goddard, I have friends that have kids in other Goddard locations and they cannot believe the way this place is run. After doing more homework and intensive interviews with families across the area we decided to pull our child out from Goddard-Rock Hill. I need to tell you that the attitude and eagerness to go to her new school is unbelievable. I hope this sheds a little of our two cents and save you the aggravations we went through

Our 3 year old daughter resisted our attempts to teach her how to properly hold a pencil at home but Harper was able to accomplish this! Harper serves a lot of physician and health care professional families working nearby at MoBap and Mercy, so they are less likely to cancel school days (for snow) compared to the local public schools. The heads of school surprisingly know the students very well, they are both very involved in all the classrooms with all the students and teachers, and also have a personal connection with the families, which contributes to an inclusive, warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment. Even though English is not our children's first language, Harper miraculously over came their language barrier to help our daughters feel loved and included and drops off became happier and less tearful.
