I am so glad Yucandu exists. I always wanted to try mosaic but didn't know where to start. I attended a workshop where the process was clearly explained by the staff who was there to assist and offer suggestions the entire time. I was pleased to be able to leave the project there, partially finished, rather than rush through the project during the workshop. When going back to complete a workshop project, you do not have to pay a studio fee since that was worked into the initial price. I was able to go and finish gluing my project, using as much of the tiles/stained glass/porcelain as I wanted. I then took home my project as well as grout and a small kit containing a cloth, cuts of newspaper, and a few others things to grout at home, although I could have returned to the studio a third time to do that there if I wanted. Many members of my family go as well and have all expressed the same gratitude for the opportunity to create something new in a comfortable place at our own pace. Project prices (walk-in or workshop) aren't cheap but neither are the materials they provide. Everything I've made there has held up well and they rotate available projects. If you're unsure about project costs or studio fees, ask them before you start. They can recommend projects within your budget and explain the studio fee. They're not out to price gouge, running an art studio with quality materials and trained staff isn't cheap. I typically spend $70 per mosaic project/workshop, if you're looking for a rough estimate. They also sell cute kits for small mosaic projects to do at home, which make a great gift. I highly recommend checking out Yucandu. (thanks Yucandu team!) read more

Grace and Claire were so nice and helpful with three kids! They were so patient and helped so much throughout our visit. We had a free hour studio session and a $45 gift card and after only spending thirty minutes here we still owed $53, we only painted. If you do ceramic, mosaic or anything else it's a lot more. It is very pricey for heads up. The kids really enjoyed it! They have a cool artwork displayed sadly you can not purchase it. Which is a bummer! This summer, I drove an hour with my two toddlers to visit YouCanDu Art Studio, expecting a fun and creative outing. Instead, I left feeling completely taken advantage of due to poor customer service, hidden fees, and a lack of transparency on pricing. When we arrived, the employee greeted us but assumed I had been there before. Once I explained it was our first visit, she seemed unsure how to explain the process. While she mentioned the prices for canvases, she never said anything about other things I'd be paying for. I was blindsided by these hidden costs. As we worked, I noticed other groups finishing up, and no one had stayed as long as we had. I started to fear we might have been secretly charged for our time in the studio. No one explained that at any point. I decided to cut our projects short, worried that my assumptions were correct and that the hidden charge had gone above my budget. Then came checkout--and that's when it all went south. I had to ask if I could leave my project and return at a later date. If I had not asked, I would have never known. Had I known this option existed, I wouldn't have spent so much time there. This felt like another layer of misleading behavior and being taken advantage of. The first employee told the second that I was working on a mosaic, not just a painting with tiles (which is correct). But the second employee completely ignored her and aggressively began recounting every single tile I had used--about 20-30 small tiles. I was stunned as the price kept escalating, with no clear explanation and a noticeable lack of professionalism from the second employee. She seemed focused on avoiding eye contact and communication, creating an uncomfortable and unhelpful environment. What should have been a straightforward transaction quickly became an overwhelming and confusing ordeal. She didn't simply count the tiles; she grabbed matching ones off the shelf, weighed them, and returned to the counter--all without explaining what was happening. The speed and lack of clarity made the entire situation feel rushed and chaotic. I was already frustrated with the way the charges were stacking up, but the way she handled it felt more like an attempt to maximize the bill rather than provide any service or transparency. She wasn't concerned with helping me understand the charges; she was focused solely on ensuring I paid as much as possible, with no effort to make the process clear or fair. I have NEVER been nickel-and-dimed so aggressively in my life. Her behavior was rude and completely uncalled for. I felt embarrassed and stupid as she made a simple transaction feel like a major ordeal I had created. You must remember that I wasn't warned about these extra charges upfront, and instead of offering a solution or addressing my concerns, she made me feel as though I was being scrutinized for every little detail and dense for not knowing their processes before arriving. It was a humiliating experience that only added to the frustration of already feeling misled. In the end, I was charged over $70 for a simple, unfinished project: a wooden box with a thin layer of paint and a handful of tiles. That is completely unacceptable. That total does not include the cost of our time in the studio or my kids' projects. All of the pricing was outrageous, especially since I wasn't told about these extra charges upfront. The way I was treated made me feel misled, disrespected, and completely taken advantage of. YouCanDu Art Studio needs to be transparent about all costs from the start. If they want to avoid driving away customers, they need to prioritize clear pricing and professional service, not surprise fees and rude, aggressive checkout experiences. Relying on pricing listed online is NOT acceptable. These costs should be explained in detail to customers in person before they begin using the studio and are charged for being there. A business that doesn't clearly communicate pricing and charges customers without transparency is not offering a professional or acceptable service. Until this issue is addressed, I will not be returning to YouCanDu Art Studio and do not recommend it to anyone. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It is the best idea ever! Pretty much they give you everything you need for any craft project. They provide you paint, glitter, paper, scissors, buttons, stickers, ribbon, letters - you name it, anything for your art project in their "Studio Fee". Now I will admit it can get pretty pricey by the time you are done. So make sure you go in there with a game plan - because if you go in and diddle around you will have to pay for it. They offer class and camps for kids and adults. I went once for a women's craft night - they had wine, a masseuse and food. Um, perfect girls night out! A friend took her son here and said they had a blast so when I was trying to figure out a fun activity for a "Mommy and me" day with my son, I figured I'd give this a try rather than hit the bounce house again. It's a nice little space with plenty of tables and a wall of activities to pick. You can select an object and then three different ways to decorate that have three different price points. Painting-only is cheapest and then you can decoupage for a mid-priced option and mosaic is the most expensive. You can also pick some bric-a-brac (buttons and ribbons and scrabble tiles) from one side of the store and pay per item to glue onto your object. You also have to pay for studio time. I use the term "cheapest" for the painting option but I do want to stress that this was not a terribly cheap activity. We picked a big letter to paint to hang in his room and after we did the paint, the studio time and the schmutz to put on it - it was about $30 which is more than you'd spend if you just bought the pieces at Michaels. I didn't mind paying it for a one time fun event though. They had staff to help and all of the brushes and paint and glue you could need - aprons for the kids, aprons for the adults, etc. But it is something to be aware of if you're watching budget. I would love to go back with some friends and do a project of my own - the woman working said there are more grown-ups and fewer kids in the evenings. There were more kids than adults when I was there and there were a few adults trying to put together complicated mosaics and they seemed annoyed with the little ones at times. Overall, it was a great experience. My biggest recommendation for them is to put prices on their website so you can better plan out what you'd like to spend. read more

I love, love, love, LOVE this darling little place!! I had been trying to find a theme and ideas on how to decorate my wedding and I found my inspiration here!! I designed and handmade all of my table # cards and centerpieces from bits and trinkets I discovered hiding in little decoration buckets and books with vintage looking pages. Hands down my 10 year old's and my favorite thing to do together is go to Yucandu. We've been well over a dozen times on our own, she's participated in many Kid's Night Out (she gets to make art, and my husband and I get a date night( win win!)), and holiday workshops, had a birthday party there that her friends still talk about 2 years later, and I've had a blast with a girlfriend (and wine!) at a ladies craft night. The staff has always been warm and welcoming, able to provide ideas and help if needed but also not pushy if you have your own ideas. The quality of the items is terrific, and I can't emphasize enough how great it is that the mess stays at Yucandu and not my house! read more

My son, being super-creative, wanted to veer from their cookie-cutter formula, and the teacher was visibly annoyed and dismayed that the project wasn't moving along quickly enough. This place is amazing and I would definitely recommend to those who can afford it. It's a bit pricey in my opinion but we had a great time. The only thing I found irritating was that we are charged an hourly fee but had to wait to begin our projects, wait for paint to be given to us, wait for glue etc. I can see why this routine is in place especially when it comes to small children wasting paint or glue etc. but as an adult I would have liked to begin when I was ready and be trusted to get my own supplies instead of waiting for what seemed too long for glue to finally be brought over by the one staff member who was working. We had an excellent evening at The Yucandu studio. We made mosaic crosses and learned a great deal about cutting tile and glass and about positioning and just good general information. The project was simple and perfect for beginners. It was a class of six with personal attention from our teacher, Vickie. Each cross was so different and charming. My review is not based on the price or quality of projects in the studio my review is based on the service or lack of customer service that we experience during our visit to you can do art studio. So the concept of this art studio is very cool the execution is not. I understand that some people come in here to work on existing projects every week and our expert but this business needs to work on the beginners who are walking into the first time don't unders stand where things are don't know the procedures don't know how to begin etc. We came in on a Tuesday in December never had been inside had no idea where to begin from the from the get go I personally felt like an imposition to the two ladies that were working there. They were more interested in sitting and working on their own projects then walking us through what the process looks like at the studio. There was one lady who is blonde and there was one lady who was Brunette. The blonde lady was not very nice at all in fact she was mean. I can imagine if I had a small shy child that they would be terrified of the ladies in there. Not a welcoming vibe at all. Just kind of passive aggressive comments as we went around annoyed by our questions annoyed by our requests etc. etc. if I were a rich person I would just knock off this concept and fill the studio with kind bubbly welcoming young artists who want to work with people who are not as comfortable in an art studio as they are. There are a lot of things at the store for example there's a lot of stuff everywhere which can be overwhelming and is frankly confusing. Not to mention that I made a $40 pencil holder. Now I totally get the studio fees I understand but if I'm paying $40 for pencil holder I want to have a positive experience with the staff that are working there. I don't want to feel like I don't belong or I am annoying them with my questions. Also there's no real clean place to hang clothes or purses so if you have any nice clothing or nice bag with you leave it in the car. I just felt like the experience could've been a lot better and process could be more clear OK you have to paint this and then you have to put the sealant on it and that this is what you do when you get to that. And then this is what you do once it's fully painted and more direction granted some people don't need that but that's why you need to have a beginners kind of guide to these projects. For $40 for pencil holder I don't want to feel bad asking someone for help when I'm paying for a studio fee. Overall not a great experience. read more

The owner ought to decoupage that stone heart of hers. My husband and I took our children and his father, who has dementia, there because we thought an art project with the kids would be beneficial to him as well as make a good memory for the kids with their grandpa. The owner happily seated the kids who immediately began their projects but told my husband he should take his father to the Bread Co across the street "and wait for the children there." My husband was hurt beyond words and I was ready to pack up the kids, but he said to stay because he didn't want to disappoint them. She certainly wasn't the least bit hesitant to take our money at the end of the projects! Hopefully she will use it to buy some sensitivity training. I signed my 8 and 11 year old up for the Valentine card decorating. I thought that this would be great to let them be creative but keep the mess out of my house. What a waste of money. Unless your child is under the age of 6, I would NOT recommend this. There was absolutely no creativity at all. Each child was give the number of cards that they needed then told were told what flower or heart to glue on each color of card. They did nothing creative on their own. My kids were so bored. There was no glitter as promised on the advertisement flier. My kids didn't use them and threw them away. Waste of money. We do not live near Webster Grove so I just thought that I would sit and wait for my children. I was actually asked to leave and go somewhere else while my children made Valentines. It was a Sunday afternoon and all of the stores are closed. When I wouldn't leave, I was asked to sit in a different room. My children knew no one and weren't comfortable with me leaving. I'm not sure what the big deal was but it was rather rude. read more

My daughter went to a friend's birthday party here a few months ago, and she loved it so much, she insisted on having her birthday party here, as well. Everyone was extremely easy to work with any time I called to set it up, add last-minute RSVP'd guests, etc. We came in to make the invitations for the party a few weeks in advance, and all of the staff was very friendly and helpful (appreciated; we have some special needs that make her not the most socially adroit kid ;) ), especially---the person that worked with us, I can't remember her name (sorry!) but she has blond braids and glasses and she was so easy-going with my daughter, who wasn't really gravitating towards any of the pictures and patterns we could use on our invitations, because really the only thing she wants pictures of are cats--so our helper got a CAT encyclopedia from the back and made tons of color copies of all types and colors of cats. It was perfect. Our party was this past weekend, and once again, everything went fantastically. Everything was set up and ready to go (we did the paper mache animal painting--cats, of course--they are pretty substantial animals, too--great size). Our party person was Celeste, and she was so great with the kids (and adults). She was vivacious and engaging, but also easily kept a bunch of 7-year olds in line. She helped every kid with their project, went and got our cake and drinks when it was that time, and even put some temporary tattoos that we brought on some of the girls. My daughter LOVED her party (even if she got a little overwhelmed at times--Celeste also showed us a discrete spot to step away from the party without having to walk through the store when we needed a calm moment--thank you!), and all of the girls (and younger brother) seemed to have a great time and loved their finished cats. So many of the parents and grandparents told me, when they came to pick up their kids, what an awesome idea this was for a party, how much they loved the project idea, etc. We already had our camps planned for this summer, but I think we'll remember Yucandu for camp ideas next summer--she loves art! Spent an afternoon at Yucando with my two boys. Not a great experience. To begin with, this day ended up being very expensive by the time we purchased all we needed to complete our project. We were charged by the hour (they called it "art studio time") and then by the pound for the materials. I thought it was quite steep. The young staff seemed very willing to help us choose the right objects and I will give a thumbs up for that as two young boys are hard to settle down. On the other hand, when I tried to speak with the owner (Hallie) about holding a birthday party there, she was quite preoccupied with the UPS driver with a seemingly important conversation about her new hair cut and color. It was aggravating trying to get her attention. I gave up and went back to my table. Seriously... Get a room! I would NOT go back. I left feeling overcharged and unimpressed. read more

Outstanding business! I had fun creating my project - for what I had anticipated would be tedious and boring evening. Not being artistically inclined, I was assisted by one of the owners, Kim, who talked me through the steps to turn a photograph into a mosaic art form. She was very patient and directive, offering suggestions and hints, while letting me work within limited boundaries of my ability. This place is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I have now been here two times. First, they have so many projects to choose from and these projects are also updated on a somewhat regular basis, which is nice. You can make a clock, tray, animal.....so many things (you name it). The people who work here are extremely helpful. They even stayed after hours and didn't rush us out when they closed. After you pick your project, you can either paint, mosaic, or deco page your art. There is also a wide range of prices from about $20 to over $100. The prices are highest for mosaic and cheapest for paint (with deco page in between). The studio fee is pretty reasonable ($4 an hour with a max of $12). Thursday through Saturday (from 6 to 9 PM) you can bring in your own booze! I was lucky enough to use a Living Social recently, but would still highly recommend this place without it. We will most certainly be back!!! Time just seems to fly so fast. As a final note, if you check-in on yelp, you get one free hour of studio time! read more

What an amazing time!! My husband & I went there for my birthday. I was wanting to do a mosaic glass project. They have a variety of projects. We are expecting our first baby this summer. we fell in love with a body shaped model. Instead of mosaic glass we worked with different kinds of fun paper! We created a belly bump on the body. The arts and crafts room we all wish we had. Anyone who has ever enjoyed painting or gluing will find something fun to do here. There are so many delightful little objects to add on to projects, too. It can get pricey if you aren't careful, but it's special and worth it.
