Wrong. There were two simultaneous pasta classes going. Our group seemed to have no clear direction. There were two pasta rollers and each kept malfunctioning with the handles falling off. It was at this point one couple left. It only went downhill from there. My sister kept saying we should just leave but I wanted to learn how to make pasta! And I paid a lot for this class so i was going to learn! But I did not. The revolt began and people just began cooking on their own (which in the end turned out quite well!!) just so we could eat at some point. We could hear the other class drinking wine and sitting down to eat, and our lasagna wasn't even in the oven yet. Another ominous sign. Our chef was very kind but it was clear he was not ready for this. It was my second and last visit to the KC, I walked away with no additional skills. Waste of 3.5 hours (though the class was scheduled for only 2.5) and 65 bucks.

This community is so vibrant and jam-packed with activities and events: classes, book clubs, movie clubs, wine tastings, speaker events, parties ... you name it. They offer classes that cover the whole spectrum of experience levels, with beginners classes that start students from scratched and advanced courses that have students engaging in political debate. Most of the classes are 6-week sessions and cost $174, which is such a steal when considering the breakdown of university courses (mine came out to be $50+ a class based on tuition and class hours). I'm a fan of the "casse-croutes," which are $10 lunch classes that run from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. and are scheduled throughout the week and have different themes (music, current events, etc.) They operate on a drop-in basis, so they're good for people who have unpredictable schedules like me and can't commit to the regular courses. They have 2 book clubs, one that finishes a book each month, and another that reads at a more leisurely pace. These meetings are free for members! The Alliance also offers DELF testing and private instruction. Plus, they have a library of books that members can borrow from and peruse. Awesome place. Great community. Really wonderful cultural center. Note that they are closed on Fridays!

It truly is a playground for kids young and not so young. Playing there reminds me of when I was a young kid making mud pies - I now remember how much fun it was to squish the mud and water in my hands till it held its shape and then patting the "dough" into a form and finishing with "sprinkles" and then baking my cake in the sun. I love that I can still do that at the LampLight! I'm new to throwing clay pots and at my first time at the LampLight, I was surprised that it wasn't as easy as it looks, even with the fine equipment. However, the instructor was very knowledgeable and patient with me and now I can get my bowl to stay upright and not go all wobbly :) The LampLight Studio is definitely worthy - SUPERWORTHY in fact!
