First time trying boba in The Netherlands! I thought it was pretty good. YoYo has locations all around, I actually first stumbled across their stall when visiting Rotterdam. Didn't make a stop at first because I honestly did not have high expectations, and to me it was like a "I traveled all the way here just to drink something I already have at home" kind of thought. But I stumbled across the store in Amsterdam after having dinner, and caved in. So the branding and the aesthetics of the place remind me of Yogurtland.. Same color scheme and everything, down to the green leaf. The space is clean and inviting, but kind of "cluttered" with a bunch of merchandise and non-food items stacked everywhere. The menu is on the smaller side, with a handful of milk teas to choose from, and a few iced teas. Other menu options include coffee, yogurt , and snacks. If boba isn't your thing, the topping bar also has popping boba, lychee, and other jellies. We went with a regular milk tea and a Jasmine Milk Tea. The drinks I believe were customizable, you can request a certain sugar level depending on how sweet you want it. No complains for the tea, it was flavorful and made to our liking. The boba had a good consistency, I liked how chewy it was without being mushy. Not too many complaints for YoYo. Maybe they could add more menu options, and they were a little skimpy when it came to filling the cup with boba and tea. But it was pleasant, glad The Netherlands has a decent boba shop for everyone to enjoy. read more

I get a hot taro all the time during the winter, but this was definitely one of the worst ones I've had. It tasted really powdery still, like they didn't mix it enough and the bubbles were too sweet. I really enjoyed this shop. It was bigger than expected with a decent assortment of teas and fruit drinks along with toppings. Not to mention all the cool gifts you can buy. I wanted to get a couple things but did not want to wait back in line for another 10-15 minutes. This place is packed and maybe because I didn't see any competition nearby but they do have a good thing going. My jasmine milk tea with boba was delicious. Saw that there was a bubble tea place in Amsterdam on yelp and couldn't resist coming by o check it out +the space is very cute with a loft area with tables upstairs as well as fun decorations downstairs -their actual boba was very underwhelming. You have the option of making your own boba by choosing flavors and toppings or going with a traditional menu option. I went for the taro milk tea but the actual boba was both still watery and powdery- don't think it had been mixed well at all. This is my favorite bubble tea place in Amsterdam and here's why: Options! Lots and lots of options! I love my options! And the young people who work here are not rigid with the rules but are instead very accommodating! I don't like candy or anything like that so what am I doing at a fruity bubble tea place, you say? Ah~ but that's because I love dairy (even though I'm ironically lactose intolerant, but who cares?! Just load up on Lactaze Enzyme supplements) and I love... LOVE anything coconut. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G... My favorite bubble tea here is the coconut milk tea without sugar and with taro or tapioca balls, ergh.. "bubbles". Nice chewy balls.. erg, "bubbles", with a still sweet coconut milk (tea?). Both the milk and coconut come in powder form before it's added to your tea so I'm sure there are some refined sugars in there but hey... it's a guilty pleasure! Because it's still sweet without sugar, I have it without sugar but like I said, they are very accommodating so just tell them how sweet you want your tea, any tea. Half sugar? No sugar? More sugar?!?!?! (don't do that though... seriously...) The shop itself is very cute and they have lots of different things for sale. Typical Asian stuff, mostly from Hong Kong. They have these comic horsey stool thingies lined with felt where you can sit on.. just check the photos. There's some seating room and it's all good and "gezellig". This place is great - conveniently located near the the red light district in the china town section. Loved the selection of bubble tea, good selection - and my fave at this place was the coconut taro with boba! The boba to tea ratio was pretty good, but maybe could have used a little more, but you could always ask for a Little more. Their staff is friendly and the store is cute decorated with for sale Asian toys, apparel, and goods. Seating is a bit limited here - so probably not a good idea to bring your laptop and chill here. read more

Yoyo is a new fresh tea bar (bubble tea) at the Zeedijk. This place looks so colourful and cute! They also sell lot's of Asian goodies inside, so the place is like decorated in cute Asian gadgets and stuff that is also for sale. Very cute. There are little tables inside and you can also sit on the weird animals haha. (see photos to understand) The big pink Yoyo logo inside and the menu also look very nice. You can see all the different choices and the steps in creating your own personal bubble drink! But they do not only have drinks, they also have frozen yoghurt! With several kinds of toppings. And the most interesting part; green tea frozen yoghurt! Today I was thirsty so I did not try this but I have to try it next time. I went which the Peach green tea with strawberry popping boba. I had a small which costs you 3 euros (medium is 3,50). The taste was very good although I think there were not enough boba in the drink. If an average Asian walks into a bubble tea place, they expect to find flavors like taro, milk tea, jackfruit, papaya, coconut with mixed with pearls or grass jelly. Feel compelled to preface this review with some important context: I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, went to college in California, lived in China for several years, and currently live in Vancouver, BC. So, I am used to having many high quality, fresh, customizable, sometimes even organic bubble tea options. Yoyo has almost none of that. All the drinks have either powder or syrup (main reason I knocked off stars), sweetness level is customizable for only 3 items, and fresh milk options were unavailable. They were very rigid about their recipes, even though the drinks are marketed as 'fresh'. For example, the fresh watermelon smoothie is made with fresh fruit but also contains added syrup, and the drink cannot be made without this artificial flavouring. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of using fresh fruit? Same goes for the other 'fresh' options. So after ruling out the majority of the menu items as just too artificial or sugary to justify, I ended up going for what I figured would be the healthiest and tastiest: jasmine milk tea with tapioca and no sugar. The drink is made with powdered milk, and while they offer a soy milk substitute, there is no option for fresh milk. Overall, the tea tasted okay. Pearls were a little on the hard side, and not so fresh tasting, but overall it was a pretty solid option, given the limited alternatives in Amsterdam that I know of. Good things about Yoyo: -you can choose from 3 sizes -staff speak English and Dutch -they accept credit cards (Visa) -clean store that was small but didn't feel overly crowded -staff were very friendly So, for Amsterdam, where there are limited options for bubble tea done right, Yoyo may very well deserve three stars for filling a niche, but because I would never even consider drinking this quality of tea back home, I'm giving it two. I think prices were reasonable, around 3 or 4 euro for a small, and 1-2 more for the large. If in Amsterdam, I would (and did) go back. read more

With all kinds of cute things on offer, it's a shop which also sells fresh bubble tea! Yay! Headed straight for the bar and with the biggest grin, I ordered a large strawberry milk tea with tapioca boba. I'd only ever tried popping boba before but after the friendly advice that tapioca boba are just 'chewy, sweet bubbles,' I was tempted to pop my tapioca cherry once and for all. Mmm mmm mmm! Now, I'll admit that, for me, flavoured popping boba is the bomb and tapioca comes second but that's just my preference and it was nice to try something different! The strawberry milk tea itself was frothy (I noticed it was shaken by a machine!) and HUGE! For €3.50, it's so worth getting large. So very generous. - Anything to prolong the bubble tea experience! Friendly staff and quirky surroundings made Yoyo an amazing find. Whilst Tempo Tea in my hometown of Glasgow will probably always hold the key to my boba heart, (my first and best bubble tea!) I had no expectation going to YoYo Fresh Tea Bar. I had my share of bad experiences with milk tea at local stores, so I tend to go for big international chains like Gong Cha and Happy Lemon. They usually have better consistency than others. Luckily, I decided to go for a try given the good Yelp reviews. The Hong Kong milk tea with boba was quite good to my surprise. The balance between milk and tea flavor was nicely done. Many places too little emphasis on tea. The boba had good mouthfeel without being too chewy. Not even some famous brands like Sharetea can match. Overall, a good option to quench my thirst for milk tea. read more

Boba is not as popular as I thought here in Amsterdam. If anything, it's a scarce resource. After missing the chance to go to at least one of Yo Yo's three locations in Rotterdam, I decided it was time to try it out in this city. We walked in 30 minutes prior to closing and unfortunately they are pretty much out of everything I wanted to get - their basic HK milk tea with boba. But at least they still had Jasmine milk tea (4.10EU for large) which I got with lychee jelly since every drink comes with a free topping anyway. I adjusted the sweetness to half which was a smart move since it was the perfect sugar level. The Jasmine milk tea was pretty good and would be considered better than average in Europe, though just average to my American tastebuds. I was looking everywhere for bubble tea and finally found this place called Yoyo. The decor is cute, it's very light in the shop and it has a nice atmosphere. I got the coconut milk tea with the boba and it was average. I also had the little pancake thing and it wasn't worth my money. It just wasn't good and tasted burned. For some reason, the bubble tea and the pancake thing came to be over 9 euros which was very overpriced. Prior to moving here, I did not understand why my Dutch friends would go crazy whenever they saw a shop that sold bubble tea - which in NYC was a lot, practically every Chinese bakery has it. After suffering through a 6 month drought and some of the worst bubble tea I have ever tasted, I finally found Yoyo! This is GOOD bubble tea, and they have a great selection of drinks. Their milk tea is spot-on and everything is prepared the way it should be (machine shaker and sealer). They have a good selection of toppings, including popping bobas which always confuse me. Basically they're like little spheres filled with juice and when you bite into them there is a mini flavor explosion. Yoyo is the BEST place to get bubble tea in the Netherlands. I hope this is a sign of more yummy bubble tea places opening up. They also serve frozen yogurt and sell a variety of cool/cute things. Atmosphere: 4/5 There isn't really any seating inside the bubble tea bar, though if it is nice you can sit on the 2 benches outside. I wouldn't bother with other places for bubble tea than here. My expectations for bubble tea reached high after my trip in Singapore and Malaysia. I consumed at least one Gong Cha bubble tea during my trip. Seriously. This place is the closest thing I can get to a good bubble tea in Holland. What sets this bubble tea place apart from others in The Netherlands is not only the interior with its weird, random gadgets but the type of tea they use. I can't speak for other flavors but the classic milk tea bubble tea here is the bombdiggity. The milk is not overpowering the strong and distinct flavor of the black tea. Other places fail to meet the balance of that. I was filled with horror and shock when I was at a different bubble tea tent and I saw that they were using Pickwick's English tea.... Pickwick?!?!?!?! As I have imagined, that bubble tea was not even close to mediocre. Let alone did it deserve to be called bubble tea. There seems to be some sort of science behind making good tapioca bubbles. I like how the tapioca bubbles here is firm and not too squishy and soft. Other bubble tea tents that I have tried in Holland were either too hard or too soft. Also there was a bland taste to the tapioca bubbles. Anyway, they also do less sugar if you are interesting in cutting back. Writing this review is making me crave bubble tea. read more

After we stuffed our faces from Little Saigon, across the street, my husband was still craving boba. We headed over to Yoyo and this was the first boba place we went to since arriving in Amsterdam so I can't really compare it to anything else here. The shop sells a random assortment of kawaii things and there's a little lofty area where you can sit and hang out with friends. We had the milk tea with boba. The boba was a little less chewy than I would've like and the milk tea was OK, but we will definitely come back again and try the other drinks. I grew up drinking great bubble tea in Taiwan, Shanghai, California and New York. If you're thinking of getting Taiwanese-style milk tea, try someplace else. My friend ordered an original milk tea with pearls, and it tasted like lightly creamed water. The texture of the pearls were okay, but it wasn't sweet enough. Boba is a hard thing to find in Europe, so when I find it...that's what led me here while in Amsterdam on a warm day. It seems like a pretty popular place, with a cute ambiance, but I wasn't a fan of the tea. I got the coconut taro milk tea, and while I'm normally all aboard the sweet train, this drink was so sweet that I couldn't finish it. I could also taste the powder mix that was used to flavor it. The boba itself was fine, not sweet, which works when it's paired with a sweet tea. I think the other teas may be fine, for instance my friend got the lychee with yogurt which seemed nice, though was also too sweet for her. Maybe I should have ordered half sweet. I've never had to do that before, but--be forewarned. Or maybe get a different tea. read more

For a tapioca addict like myself, it was such a relief to find this place in Amsterdam. Good selection, friendly staff (smiles on both visits) and reasonably priced.
