This trip brought us to The Fish Market, as we have tried several other places over the decades. The place is much larger than it looks and has indoor, outdoor, upstairs, and bar area seating. We were seated immediately, and our server was the sweetest lady but not really conversational when we asked questions about the area or the meal. She had no other tables but might not be her personality, which is fine. Knowing we wanted ice cream, we declined drinks, but the bar and its menu were pretty extensive. When we ordered, we landed on the fresh fish tacos and one of the best seafood linguines I've ever had. The sauce was light and didn't puddle at the bottom and was served with scallops, white fish, mussels, and shrimp. The fresh broccoli and grated Parmesan topped off an incredible choice of pasta! At the end of the day, we will continue to try other places in Old Town, but as long as they have that pasta dish, The Fish Market will always be in the running for a return trip!

The waiter and wait service was attentive and friendly. For my 3 courses, I got the She-Crab Soup, Braised Short Rib, and Creole Bread Pudding. Everything was tasty. The soup was the best - so creamy and satisfying - we all devoured them. I also got an Old Fashioned cocktail alongside it. I would recommend this restaurant and check out the regular menu next time.

It's a nice looking restaurant though it has a bit of an old, historic feel to it. The restrooms are upstairs and very small. One stall in the ladies' room didn't have any purse hooks which was a tad annoying (they were broken). Ordered the crab cakes, which came with a heaping serving of french fries. Every entree also came with either champagne or strawberries and cream. The cream was thick and delicious. The crab cakes were dry, unfortunately. Maybe it's partly because there was no filler, which is a good thing, but I wished they were more moist. And the fries had a crispy batter, which are not my favorite. Lastly, I wished the meal came with a vegetable of some sort. And I didn't see any sides to order from, and no veggies for apps. The meal was a bit disappointing, especially for the price point (which is different on the menu than what's on their website). My party was seated by the window but the internet still didn't work well. Had to request the wifi password. I didn't realize I had been here once before, for Mother's Day. But after this meal, I don't think I need to return.

The waiter asked if I wanted to add an additional shrimp to the order, which I agreed to. The shrimp cocktail was nothing short of a rip off, $20 for 4 medium sized shrimp that weren't properly cleaned and not fully chilled; absolutely ridiculous. The oysters were very nice, fresh and only a bit briny, would order those again. For dinner, we ordered the salmon and the sea bass. The fish were both cooked perfectly. Both the sauteed spinach served with the salmon and the black rice served with the sea bass were beyond salty -- actually inedible. Service throughout the meal was fine but we found ourselves abandonded at the end. The server for our table, and those around us was gone for a long period and even the tables around us noticed his absence. We skipped desert. The check, including 1 glass of wine, and 1 coke, came to $140. I'm sorry, this wasn't even close to worth that much money. Perhaps the Wharf was just having an off night, but my impression is that this is a tired restaurant, trading mostly on its excellent location, that has given up on the concept of repeat business.

What really stood out, though, was how wonderful our waiter was. We had our two kids with us, and they were mindful that little ones can sometimes be distracting to other guests. Instead of ever making us feel like a nuisance, they treated us with genuine respect, patience, and care. They also had a relaxed vibe which allowed us to enjoy ourselves even more. That meant so much to us as parents. We felt welcomed, comfortable, and truly taken care of throughout the entire meal. Great food is one thing, but that kind of hospitality is what makes you want to come back. 5 stars all around -- we'll definitely be back!

The Potomac was shimmering, boats drifting lazily across the water, sunshine everywhere. We grabbed a table under the pergola outside--chef's kiss seating. Service Our server, Bob, was an absolute gem. He seated us right away, sprinkled in a few jokes, and carried a witty, satirical charm that kept us entertained. His timing and personality added a lovely lift to the afternoon. Food Highlights * Egg White Omelette -- My pick, because I'm a vegetable girl through and through. It arrived big, fluffy, and beautifully done. The vegetables were served on the side, lightly marinated in pesto--bright, fresh, and flavorful.* Heads up: If you want cheese inside, ask for it. The omelette is more of a "blank canvas," with all the veggies plated separately. Still delicious, just not your traditional stuffed omelette. * Chicken & Cheddar Waffle -- Hubs went bold. The dish came with a deep‑fried boiled egg, a well‑seasoned piece of chicken, and a cornmeal waffle that was crispy, enhanced, and made heavenly with honey butter. A fun, unexpected combination that really worked. * Salad Bar -- We added this as an entrée to round things out. Nicely stocked with fruits, veggies, and the usual staples. Simple, but a welcome complement to the meal. The One Thing Missing A crunchy slice of toast alongside the omelette would've sealed the deal. Just that little bit of texture to complete the plate. Final Thoughts Between the weather, the ambience, and the food, it was a wonderful outing from start to finish. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I don't eat beef or pork, but after watching a review from Peaks100, I saw that the manager also recommended the seafood along with the steaks. My wife eats steak, so I took her there for that, and I planned to order seafood. Spoiler alert: my wife enjoyed her steak. Now that I got that out of the way, let me continue. https://youtu.be/5uPuX7Fk_cE?si=H7NI2vI_uMWAeREq Appetizer Octopus Ceviche -- $18 I told our server that I didn't want any pork on it. She seemed surprised and told me it didn't come with pork. I had already looked up "pancetta crumble" and knew pancetta was pork, so I showed her the menu. She then said she knew what pancetta was and would make sure there was no pork on my plate. The ceviche itself didn't have much flavor. I didn't really enjoy it, but it wasn't bad enough for me to complain or send it back. Dinner Housemade "Parkerhouse" Rolls -- $8 These came out fresh and hot with butter. They were good. No complaints. Chef's Fresh Catch -- $50 The fresh catch was grouper. The fish had some salt on it and a nice char, but the heavy cream-based sauce on the plate didn't have much flavor. Again, I didn't really enjoy it, but not enough to complain or return the dish. Jumbo Lump Crab Oscar -- $28 Wow, this was not good at all. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't. It was tough and rubbery (see pic), almost like it had been left under the broiler too long. I took it home with me, but I honestly will probably end up throwing it away. Sides Crispy Brussels Sprouts -- $13 These were good, but somewhat oily. Yukon Gold Potato Purée -- $12 They were okay. Nothing to write home about. Dessert Coconut Cream Bread Pudding -- $14 It was just okay. The coconut flakes was too much, in my opinion, and eventually became overwhelming. It didn't feel very balanced. Overall, I felt the service could have been better, and most of the food needed more flavor, especially at this price point. Nothing was so terrible that I felt the need to ask for a manager, but I also didn't enjoy most of what I ordered. I ordered it, so I paid for it and kept it moving. Also, a 25% gratuity was already added to the bill. Maybe that is why the service was lacking, because they already knew they were going to get 25% "allegedly". Honestly, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many other good places in the DMV where you can have better food and a better overall experience for the same price or less.

I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. Todd and Alison made our experience at The Oaks unforgettable, along with the incredible food. Thank you both--we hope to see you again soon! --SoCal Visitors
