It has taken sometime to get around to post a review.. It has taken me a long time to temper my anger and frustration.
This painter was hired through a referral, though from what I understood, the jobs were exteriors, not an interior with the homeowner living through the renovation.
The quote seemed appropriate, and I was looking forward to a pain-free job. The job included painting my kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, hallway, stairwell, upper landing, ceilings for each of these areas. In addition, painting my kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts. baseboards and other millwork.
Reviews on his website were glowing, though that's easily arranged.
Prior to actually starting the job, he requested a meeting with the designer and drywaller in my home, yet failed to show up.
Feb 19/2021, the cabinet doors/drawer fronts were removed to spray at his shop.
Communication was not strong in this renovation. To much condescension, sarcasm and passive aggressive comments.
He requested to work an additional Saturday - and I reluctantly agreed to Saturday February 27, and agreed to put my dogs in day-care. He did not show up until nearly 11am.
March 25, he didn't show up, no explanation to me, the homeowner. Was working for a contractor at another job, while he was under contract with me.
Over the course of this job, there were a number of promises to return the finished cabinet doors & drawer fronts. March came and went without cabinets being returned.
There was also a significant issue with the main living room wall.. It developed bubbles between coats of paint... the bubble were movable. The replacement painted went over the walls to sand and move the pain, the filler which we believe was the cause of the bubbles, and repainted the wall 4 times, sanding in between each application. Finally the bubbles were gone. Some places were not even painted - Open wall under the counter and only 1 light coat of primer behind the fridge which didn't even go up to the cabinets.
I had asked my designer to ensure that he was no longer allowed in my home, I began to feel very uncomfortable, with him and the "helpers" that arrived and had access to my hose, since he gave them the lock box code - which was subsequently changed. He insisted I could fire him without cause.... I think there was plenty of cause.
He stated in one text, the he underquoted the timeline to get the job done, when in fact he blatantly lied though out the course of the job. His interaction with the designer's husband on March 27 proved that exaggerate.
He had attempted to return some of them wet, on Saturday March 27, when my designer & her husband were at my home, to ensure all was completed. She declined delivery until they were all completed.
He texted that if I was home April 5 he would deliver them between 7:00-7:30 am. Finally arrived at 10:59am.
The condition of the cabinets and drawer fronts was not satisfactory and I am waiting for the replacement painter to redo them.
I held back some payment as I needed to know what the new painter was charging for the incomplete work. Suddenly I am getting threatening text messages. In one text I was told not to be surprised if his "helpers" did not show up at my door as they were owed money.
