We had several quotes but after speaking with Barry from The Mudd Monkey my fears were put aside. We needed our basement drywalled and mud and taped. Barry's quote was inline with other even a little less than some, but it was really my trust in him that made us choose Mudd Monkey. Barry understood that having your family in the house required trustworthy trades with good personalities. He knows it's his reputation on the line and as a family man himself he wouldn't use trades that he couldn't trust in his house. We had a few complex curved walls and spiral staircase, and he and his crew did a great job. I am big on communications and Barry made sure to let us know when his guys (or he) would be coming. They were not the cheapest quote but they committed to hitting the timelines required to have the work completed before I moved in. Long story short they missed the deadline by nearly a month, did not truthfully communicate project status resulting in increased safety risk for my movers and increased costs to me, the quality of work was lower than expected as I had to request that they finish scope of work that was missed multiple times (and was never completed). And, the most concerning issue is that Alberta OHS shut them down for over a week due to worker safety concerns. They did attempt to make me whole by offering a discount on the project, which covered my additional costs. I appreciate the organization attempt to make this right. However, I would caution working with this organization if there is a potential to increase safety risk to other contractors or you need effective project management to hit specific timelines. I would also encourage future customers to ask a few more questions on their worker safety protocols before hiring Building Works.

Instead, we experienced unacceptable conduct, policy violations, and substandard workmanship that left our home damaged and much of the project unfinished. Over $7,400 worth of work remains incomplete or improperly done. (see quality of work photos attached) where their team "fixed the issue" by using high gloss finishing paint for repair leaving visible streaks and permanently damaging the knockdown finish. Additionally, we have had to have professional consultation to reroute plumbing to pass cose and one of their technicians entered our home outside of approved work hours and brought an unauthorized individual inside without notice or consent. This person was not introduced, vetted, or confirmed to be trained, insured, or affiliated with the company. The same technician earlier offered to perform additional work for cash off the books. We have attempted to resolve the matter directly and are now filing a formal legal claim and pursuing full restitution through appropriate regulatory and consumer protection channels. We made every effort to resolve this directly. When no reasonable resolution was offered, we initiated a formal legal claim and are now pursuing full restitution through appropriate consumer protection and regulatory channels.
