My visit was relatively stress-free and the doctor as always is great. I went to the desk and selected my glasses and was told that they would be three weeks for them to arrive. I found it to be a lengthy wait but I was fine because I still had my old beat up pair. I received a call from an Elizabeth and due to my work hours it is difficult for me to make it to the office during their scheduled work hours. However, I arranged to leave work early in New York State to travel all the way to Monclair and pick up my glasses which she informed me had arrived. I noticed that there was a bit of traffic so I called the office and let her know that I would be there around 4:10 (4:00 was the pick up time). She took a tone of annoyance which took me a back a bit. She said to me "I can't be here all day for you I have been here all day." I work in customer service and one of the most important roles of customer service is that you never complain to customers about your work, it's unprofessional and very rude and definitely does not set the tone for a good relationship. I apologized and told her that according to my GPS I should be there between 410 and 415. She called me at 4:10 and said "where are you?" I said I am almost there I am only about a mile and a half away, again she reiterated, "look, I can't be here all day waiting for you I have been here all day." She then said you have five minutes to get here and if you're not here in five minutes then you're going to have to pick up your prescription in Belleville on Monday. I told her Elizabeth I'm literally minutes away. I arrived at the door at 4:13 and the office was all locked up. In other words she didn't even bother to wait for five more minutes she told me she would. I was flabbergasted at this. Never have I been treated in such a poor fashion. I was truly shocked. I called the office and left a voicemail saying I never want to deal with her again. It hit me all of a sudden how incredibly rude she was. I have worked in customer service all of my life and if a customer called me and tells me they're on their way I wait until they get there, especially if I'm actively speaking to them on the phone. I'm sorry it's just good practice, sometimes you get inconvenienced by customers but your job is customer service things like that happen. As much as I like the doctor I can't see myself returning here. It is a shame how one person can derail a business relationship of years. Very sad that it is acceptable to treat people in this fashion.

Prior to the procedure, I needed glasses even to see "the big E."  The feeling I had of a lump in each eye - gone!  Colors and white are now brilliant.   The doctor treated me with respectful care and attention, no rushing.  Waiting time at appointments was reasonable, and the staff were polite.  Prior to the procedure I was anxious and squeamish, and Dr. Wertheimer spoke calmly. During appointments before and after the procedure, Dr. Wertheimer had no difficulty administering eye drops and eye pressure testing.   The procedure itself took place at the Ridgedale Surgery Center in Cedar Knolls, NJ.  There the nurses were kind and patient.  I was given numbing eye drops and intravenous sedation.  There was no discomfort during the laser removal of the cataracts.  For the lens implant, I felt a brief pain in the first eye.  When I was getting eye drops for the second eye,  I asked for extra numbing.  I felt no pain at all that way.   I had a one month wait between the first and second eyes.  I would suggest a shorter waiting period whenever possible, because there is imbalance of vision between the eye that is done and the one that isn't done.

Please save yourself the effort and go anywhere but here. I went for my first appointment to get my eyes checked for contacts and the reception staff was immediately ill mannered and unpleasant. (There is no wall and we patients can hear them talking about other customers). After months of trial contacts that did not work for me, I went back for a recheck on 12/2. I specifically called to make the recheck appointment and confirm that there would be no extra charge, since nothing they were having me try was working. I explained that I was being given trial contacts for months and having trouble with my contact fitting. I was explicitly told I would not be charged. Well I went back for my recheck and was charged $147 since "the contact specialist is seperate". I told them i had been confirmed for no payment over the phone since I explained my issue was WITH MY CONTACTS and was never told that the contact specialist was a seperate charge. After some back and forth the dark haired receptionist cut me off and said "well do whatever you want we'll just send you the bill". She eventually agreed with me that I "shouldn't have been told that over the phone" but that they were going to charge me anyways. I still have not gotten the correct contact lenses from them. The contact specialist who was trying to fit me with contacts told me what she gave me was probably the best im going to get, even though i told her the contacts were blurry and giving me headaches. I had her write down a note for me of what pair of trial contacts I had in my eyes and which she was ordering for me prior to leaving the appointment. When i didn't recieve these notes (that i watched the contact specialist photocopy for me and leave for the receptionist) I asked the blonde receptionist, who was immediately rude. She told me to sit down and wait for the specialist to be done with her next patient to get the sheet of paper she photo copied for me. I told her that was unacceptable because I could literally see them on the counter and pointed to them. After some more unnecessary back and forth and an eye roll, she finally handed me the sheet of paper she was about to make me wait 30 minutes for. I was told I would recieve a call to come pickup my trial contacts in 1-2 days. Three days go by with no call, so i called the office and Chris the contact specialist said the contacts were "not there" and she "wasn't sure where they went" so she said she would order them for me to pick up the following Monday. When Tuesday rolled around, still with no call, I called the office and was sent to voicemail with an eventual call back later that day. Save yourself the time, money and frustration and go elsewhere to get you eyes checked.
