Poor communication from the staff -- unfortunately didn't make it in to see the Dr. We're new to the area, walkable to Target's vision center but wanted to 'shop small'. Booked an appointment at Nutley Eye Care about 2-3 weeks out. The morning of the appointment received a message saying they need new information, and within the hour; wasn't able to provide the info while I was working and had to cancel the appointment. Inefficient use of time all around. Hate to give low rating - but the business is end to end, not just the eye check. read more

I saw Dr. Goldschmidt. I had no issues with this place. He was very polite and informative (ex. warning me which eye drops might burn / make my eyes feel funny). I had an appointment and was seen 7-10 minute after my scheduled (which is not bad). I didn't feel rushed through my appointment. Dr. Goldschmidt has to be one of the most personable doctors that I've ever met - and as a sales rep in the medical field, that's saying A LOT!! He was very thorough but efficient with my time. I came in right on time for my appointment and was immediately walked back by the doctor himself - no waiting!! This office is CLEAN (super important to me!!) and very modern with all the most up to date equipment & technologies. They have a large selection of frames ranging in prices/brands and the doctor & staff had a great knowledge of my insurance coverage - which many offices will tell you is not their job but your own to understand. I also have to say that Serena, his assistant/receptionist, was one of the sweetest office staff I have come across!! She multi-tasks very well and was kind enough to say excuse me for a moment if she had to take a phone call. They are not open on Saturdays but do surprisingly have Sunday hours available! This was my third visit to Dr. Goldschmidt. First was an annual exam, second was an eye health issue and the last (most recent) was my annual eye exam again. They manage the office well - no long waits for your appointment time, no crazy bills from my insurance company. Efficient. Additionally, the doctor is very thorough in the exam and very practical in his recommendations for frames and lenses. absolutely awful experience. My husband has seen this doctor several times. Each time, they would screw up the billing. Not only would the billing be screwed up, we would be overcharged each visit. The doctor didn't mention any of the frames covered in our vision plan...meaning, we paid full price because he just happened to not mention them. My other eye doctor made me very aware of the frames covered under my plan so I wouldn't have to pay so much out of pocket. Not only that, when we tried to order from 1800 contacts (the office overprices their contacts as well)...the office would not approve the order to try and force us to buy from them. I think this is a shady business, and they did not care to rectify the situation. read more

I received a reminder email as well as a reminder text which is great. I like the office look and I love the fact you can make appointment online and I was able to book 3 back to back for the whole family same day. The only reason I didn't give a 5 stars is because I think working with kids require a little more patience. You can expect a 6 year old to choose which lense is better in less than 5 seconds. Can't say enough good things about this office. From the receptionist to the Dr., the service is just wonderful. The office is beautiful and clean and they are friendly, efficient and professional. I accompanied my husband to his appointment and had an appointment for myself the following week. When the receptionist saw that I was in a walking cast, she asked the doctor if he could see me the same day so I didn't have to come back. He immediately accommodated the request. I must agree with Jennifer N who rated this place one star: they are administratively clueless. At least I never set foot in their office. Here's my story: Made a routine appointment for an eyeglass Rx over a month in advance providing all insurance info. They said they were in UHC network, would verify my info and call if there were an issue. They did call, but not until 3 days before the appointment, killing a month in which I could have sought another doctor and gotten an appointment elsewhere much sooner. I spoke with a clerk who now claimed they NOT in UHC network. Since I found out about them on the UHC website because they were listed as IN network, I started chatting with UHC online while arguing with the clerk. UHC later calls the the eye care place to let them know they were indeed under contract and then confirms with me. A day later I call the eye care place back (there's still a day until the appt.), the clerk hems and haws a bit and I guess optometrist Goldschmidt overhears this and grabs the phone himself. He lectures me on vision plans vs. medical networks basically saying, "sorry pal, pay cash or fuggetaboutit", Two days later the appointment date has come and gone I get another call from Nutley. Sure enough, they're in network after all, but now if I want in, it's another 2 weeks. This time it was I saying fuggetaboutit. These people need to get their act together. They do a tremendous disservice to people needing eye care with their eleventh hour shenanigans. read more

Found this office and Dr Goldschmidt through my VSP insurance provider search; he was listed as a top provider. I've been wearing glasses for about 10 years now.. so that's at least 10 visits to an eye doctor and at least another 10 times going through the process for choosing frames. I have to say this office is the nicest looking eye doctors office I have ever been to. Dr Goldschmidt was very nice and informative. . He knew the ins and outs of my insurance plan and he himself took the time to help me pick out frames. He even sat there at the end and crunched the numbers with me. I went to see this Doctor as a new patient based on the good reviews, however had a very disappointing experience. The Dr gave short 1 word replies to my questions, so I figured he was just having a bad day. He then got annoyed when I said I just needed the eye exam and will buy the glasses at a later time (I showed him my glasses that are only a year old). He then writes me an incorrect eye glass prescription where the values were the same for both eyes. I called him back later in the week and asked him if this was a mistake (One of my eyes is more blurry than the other and has been this way for years, I explained.) and he was extremely rude and condescending! I've never had a Doctor yell at me before, especially for clarifying information on a prescription! Now I'm stuck for 2 years with the wrong eye glass prescription!! read more

Started off great then turned horrible.. Had the exam, went well. Dr ordered my contacts. Then it went bad. Received a phone call to come pick them up but once I get there, im told I need another appointment to get them.. WTH??? What so you can bill me again. And then the next available appointment isn't for 3 weeks.. I left. told the girl at the front desk to keep them. Now I get a phone call asking if I would like to schedule the appointment. I said no and that I wanted the prescription for the lenses. She said no we don't do that... well Im out of here. DO NOT GO HERE read more

Went to Dr. Goldschmidt for the first time for an eye issue I began experiencing. I was able to make an appointment on a Monday night and get an appointment the next day at a time that I wanted. The office is modern and clean. The receptionist was very pleasant, took my information and the doctor came out to greet me too. The exam was through and he explained what he felt was my issue.
