Dear Dr. Mayes, I am…read morewriting to formally address a serious concern regarding the treatment I received at Gillis Family Dentistry. I was referred to your office by Teraporn Lowe and Spencer Lowe under the understanding that I would undergo X‑rays and receive a detailed treatment plan to improve my dental health. During my visit, I was informed that 14 teeth would need to be extracted, with the assurance that once I had fully healed, I would be provided with a partial denture to restore my smile and confidence. Trusting your professional judgment, I proceeded with the extractions in good faith, fully expecting that the promised partial would follow as part of my treatment plan. After I healed and was ready for the next step, I was unexpectedly denied the partial denture--a decision I was led to believe was influenced by an unrelated personal matter between myself and my employer. This situation has caused me significant physical, emotional, and financial distress. Denying completion of an agreed‑upon treatment after performing irreversible extractions raises serious ethical and professional concerns. I am requesting, in writing, no later than Thursday, July 23, 2025, the following: 1. A full written explanation of why I was denied the partial denture after the extractions were performed. 2. A proposed resolution to fulfill the treatment plan as originally represented to me. If I do not receive a satisfactory response by this date, I will have no choice but to escalate this matter further. This may include filing a formal complaint with the Missouri Dental Board, consulting legal counsel, and pursuing any remedies available under the law. For transparency, I am CC'ing the Missouri Dental Board on this correspondence so they are aware should escalation become necessary. I sincerely hope we can resolve this issue professionally and without further action. Please confirm receipt of this email and provide your response no later than the stated deadline. Sincerely, Dylan Joseph Branscom 816-602-2106 dylanbranscom33@gmail.com

My experiences with Cleveland Dental have been an absolute disaster involving questionable billing…read morepractices, unnecessary treatment recommendations, and some of the most unprofessional office behavior I have ever encountered. On my second visit there, I was overcharged by roughly $400 and only received reimbursement after a check randomly showed up in the mail nearly a year later. More recently, my wife went in for what should have been a routine cleaning after simply missing her 6-month appointment window. It had only been about a year since her last cleaning, and she has excellent oral hygiene. Instead of receiving a normal cleaning, a hygienist informed her she would need FOUR separate "quadrant" cleaning visits. This immediately raised concerns because there was absolutely no indication she had severe dental issues requiring that level of treatment. To make matters worse, multiple employees within the office openly contradicted each other when my wife questioned it. We were told by staff that one hygienist "doesn't clean like she should" while another is "super picky." Hearing employees openly criticize each other's standards does not inspire confidence whatsoever. My wife eventually went to one of the four appointments, which conveniently would no longer be fully covered by insurance because it exceeded standard cleaning limits for the year. After feeling uncomfortable with the situation, she sought a second opinion from another dentist and was told there was absolutely NO legitimate reason she should have been pushed into quadrant cleanings in the first place. Then came the billing chaos. She later received a $46 bill, called the office for clarification, and was told they would "resubmit it to insurance." After that, we heard nothing else. Fast forward to my recent cleaning appointment, where I was suddenly informed I owed over $200 on an "outstanding balance." No explanation was provided whatsoever when I asked what the charges were for. When I returned for fillings, I was sitting in an otherwise empty waiting room and overheard employees behind the desk discussing how "he'll have to pay it because he's getting services today." Whether they intended me to hear that or not, it was incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional. After my procedure, I again asked for an explanation of the charges. At that point, the insurance employee, Callie, approached with an openly rude and confrontational attitude from the start. Instead of professionally explaining the situation, she immediately became defensive and dismissive while I calmly attempted to explain the history behind the billing dispute. The moment I started speaking, she literally threw her hand in the air to cut me off, turned around, and walked away from me mid-conversation like a child having a tantrum. I then stated I would pay for TODAY'S services and they could bill the disputed amount separately. As she walked away, she turned back and yelled across the office, "I'VE SENT THE BILL FOUR TIMES!" Not only was that completely unprofessional behavior from someone working in billing and customer service, it also was not true. We never received four bills, and more importantly, those charges should never have existed in the first place considering the unnecessary treatment recommendations and contradictory information we were given from the beginning. Between the overcharging, questionable treatment plans, lack of transparency, internal staff contradictions, and unbelievably rude billing department behavior, I have completely lost trust in this office. There are too many good dental offices out there to deal with this kind of incompetence and disrespect. What makes this more disappointing is that I actually liked Dr. Cleveland and had no issue with his work. Unfortunately, the billing department and front office staff completely ruined the experience with poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and constant confusion.

He listened to my concerns and was able to help me with a RX of antibiotics to relieve the infection and pain until I was able and willing to get my tooth pulled. He was able to do it that day but I shared with him my extreme nervousness with the procedure. He scheduled me on Monday with his colleague, Dr. Alborno, as the office was closed the rest of the holiday week. He gave me a RX to take the evening before and morning of the procedure to aid me with my nerves and extreme fear. He told me his colleague, Dr. Meshal Alborno is great at this procedure and also enjoys helping people through this procedure. I was still very nervous about the extraction as I was also getting a bone graft to aid in the future implant. His kindness and chair-side manner was very appreciated. Sunday evening I took the RX I was given to help calm my nerves to allow me a bit of rest. Monday morning I took the other dose of the RX to help me calm my nerves. I meet with Dr. Alborno as soon as I was taken back by the Dental Assistant Adam. Adam was a very calming person and explained everything he was doing to prepare for the procedure, he even offered me a blanket. I told him I was very nerves and scared and he informed the Doctor. Doctor Alborno was in the room very soon after I was taken back which was awesome because I was thinking of reasons I could back out. He introduced himself and told me that he was informed I was very nervous. He told me about his training as well as his passion for removal of teeth and patient care. He went over what was going to happen as well as what to do if I was to feel any pain. He made conversation to ensure I was comfortable, I believe asking me what my favorite food was. I asked him to be very gentle and cautious because I have a crown on one side and a dental implant on the other side of the planned extraction site. Once it was time for the injection of anesthetic, he was gentle and Adam tapped my shoulder explaining it helps keep the pain under control or trick the brain. They both were so very kind and understanding of my fear and nerves. I was about to cry but their care comforted me and helped with my fears. After ensuring the anesthetic was working the doctor went to work. It was very fast and almost painless. The injections were the only painful part and they both did it well. The best I have ever had to be honest. The extraction was quick. I was impressed it was out before I knew it. There was no excessive pressure or jarring motions. They placed the bone graft, the biological dressing and began stitching my gums up. After they took an few X rays to ensure it all was good. I am so very thankful for the care and kindness they both showed me throughout the procedure, especially because I stated I hate the dentist almost first thing when I sat in the chair. Dr. Alborno was the best doctor that I have ever had extract my teeth. I have had 6 other implants so at least 6 other teeth extracted and he was the best and again so gentle and caring. Adam was just as kind and caring. After the procedure was done they both gave me great and practical post op instructions. I couldn't be more grateful for the way I was treated in your office each time I have come. Today was the best I could ask for. Thank you again for the help
