If you are looking for a house rental with Young America Realty(YA), do not miss this article. I would like to share my experience with their extremely poor customer service!!! First, YA does not care renter's safety. The things were on the September 11th: In the morning, A student was driving a car, which lost control to bump into my room, which was damaged, there was a big hole in the wall. In this case, I went to YA to explain my situation and ask them if it was possible to provide another room for me, but they rejected it. They said that maintenance staff were fixing and cleaning it, and the room using the board to cover the hole was safe. They were sure I could live in the damaged room. Overall, the total of repairs is around one week, and letting me live in the room was under construction. (picture1: the big hole in the wall; when accident happened while I still sleeping.) Second, YA does not care renter's health. Due to the room being under construction and extremely dirty at that time, such as dust, wall fragments, wood dust, and stones, I got seriously allergic. So again, I already explained my situation to YA to clean my room, but they ignored me. In this case, I made an appointment for allergy treatment and showed my medical certificate to YA; they finally scheduled for carpet cleaning. Well, can you imagine how long I have waited for the scheduled cleaning; until today, the cleaner coming on October 17th. (picture 2: my best friend called air purifier turned red; when I moved in YA (August 19th), the filter is a new one.) Finally, Be careful with YA's Insurance. YA's Insurance has two options; the one does not include personal liability insurance or renters' insurance. It means if the property was damaged, the tenant cannot make a rent abatement request. Also, their insurance fee needs to be paid an extra fee for the Administration Fee per month. In this case, I believe that YA is overcharged for it, so I found other Insurance on Google that all the Insurance companies were cheaper than YA. (My cost is lower cause I use my car insurance company and have a discount for it.) Overall, if your last option is only YA, be careful because they do not take any responsibility and do not care about property being habitable. They are avaricious, which is overcharged many fees.

DO. NOT. LIVE. WITH. YOUNG AMERICA. They are absolutely worthless. Horrible maintenance, horrible customer service, utility charges never post on time, bogus fees. Our basement rooms have horrible ventilation, making it moist and creating mold on clothing and shoes. Maintenance was called yesterday because our front door stopped working, leaving us locked from the inside and out. We had to climb through our window to get in and out. No one showed for 2+ hours. Called again and eventually someone came, apologizing for being late because he FELL ASLEEP. He then took off our handle and said he'd be right back the new part (why didn't he have it to begin with?). THIS MAN NEVER CAME BACK. HE LEFT OUR DOOR LIKE THIS. What an absolute joke of a company. They only care about your $$$

A screenshot of a conversation with YA leasing agent.

I haven't even officially rented through them and I would rate them zero for their service so far. My partner and I applied with them, had to pay $80 collectively. Then young america denied our applications despite our perfect credit and sufficient income due to one bounced check that occurred three years prior. This incident was caused by our current real estate company processing our rent check in the middle of the month one time. Young America refused to explain further or help us out. They claimed that if any NSF payments occur in your rental history it's grounds for automatic denial. So before any potential renters waste their money applying with them, just know this is how they operate.

There was no answer so I left him a VM, requesting a call me back...I never heard from him. After reaching out to him on his personal FB page this past weekend, which I would normally never do, he called right back on Sunday and offered to set up an appointment to meet at the business on Tuesday (tonight). I hurried to get off work early and rushed from Downs to the west side of Bloomington to meet him, but he was a no call/no show. My mom/business partner :) also drove from north Normal to meet us there. When I called he informed me that seller called him THIS MORNING and no longer wants to sell. While the news was a huge disappointment for me and my mom, Mr. Sheehan's lack of professionalism and care for our time was even more so. I will definitely be sticking with my Crowne Reality agent!

I moved in and the first thing I noticed in my apartment was that there was black mold on a wall in the living room, then I found more spots throughout the apartment. So ofcourse I call the office, to get immediate help for them to clean the mold off the walls. They told me that maintenance will be doing further inspections later in the week and that they will "try" to get someone out today. However, I can't just up and leave and go stay with a family member or a friend while I wait on Sami maintenance to take care of it. I tell them this, and they are like "well you have two options, either wait for maintenance to come out and clean it or return your keys and move back in, on the official move in date." Which would've been in June. I'm sorry but not everyone has the luxury to go and stay with a family member or a friend. It's extremely shitty to disregard a residents living situation and not take care of the problem immediately and not argue with the resident and be shitty towards them about it. So I kept telling them this; that I need someone here today to clean it, because I have asthma and chronic bronchitis, and I am going to get terribly sick because of the mold. To fast forward a little bit, they ended up sending maintenance out eventually, however the manager for maintenance, was telling me that if health inspection came into the apartment, they would say it's "livable". Which that's completely crazy, I had to call the health department for normal township and the health inspector said otherwise and plus they found water damage in one of the bedrooms. Also to note throughout the entire interactions I had with Sami employees in the office, they were rude, non sympathetic and just overall disgusting towards me. Secondly, I have two cats with me at this time, one of them: I am pet sitting for and the other is my service animal. Maintenance, told them that I have two cats, Sami office employees said "Hey, when maintenance was in the unit--they noticed their was a cat. The building is actually pet friendly, but you have to properly register it and pay for it before the animal is supposed to be in the apartment. Do you just have one cat or 2? We can send the pet form to your email. It is $300/pet." $300 per pet!!!??? What the hell is $300 covering and why that much for a cat? Like I have no problem filling out a form for my service pet, and the second cat is gonna be on its way back home next week but why charge residents $300 for a cat?? Like wth, plus when I was just in the office, I was telling Natalie that I didn't know pet sitting wasn't allowed and I just can't get rid of the cat, like I was paid to pet sit and the pet will not have a place to go. She just kept shrugging her shoulders and being disgusting towards me about it. Natalie has an unprofessional attitude in general, if you have been working your job for this long you should know how to have proper customer service skills and not act rudely. Customer service is about growing rapport, being respectful and have a good attitude and a good smile on your face! Overall there is just complete unprofessionalism happening in that office, and something needs to be done about it. How can you be okay with yourself and talk to people the way I have been spoken to!!!

To be honest I don't even know where to begin…read more We met Greg as a recommendation from a Coldwell agent that helped us sell our home in Ottawa. I was 7 months pregnant and we wanted to move to Bloomington, and we were naively hoping to do this before the delivery of the baby. We narrowed down to about a dozen houses online, my husband went to meet Greg who helped him further scratch a few off the top, and they spent the day going house to house. My husband narrowed it to three homes and the following day he brought me down to meet Greg and look at the three houses. Greg was flexible, reliable, and considerate of our circumstances. He didn't pressure anything onto us, he told us how it was, what kinds of choices we had, what was typically done and would give examples of unusual circumstances to give perspective. We picked the house we wanted, wrote an offer and set a closing date that day. Between calling Greg off the back of a business card and writing up a contract, I think it was only 3 or 4 days and that was exactly what we needed. We needed to find a house FAST. That was 3 1/2 years ago and we kept in touch with Greg throughout to get a feel for the market once in a while knowing we didn't want this house for a whole lot longer. However in April 2018 we came across what appeared to be our dream home on the ole interwebs. Of course knowing that listings can be deceiving, we called up Greg and asked him to take us out there. The baby we had had when purchasing the last house was born profoundly disabled and had recently been given a few years more to live. Had we known we'd need space for a wheelchair our buying priorities would have been much different. He came with us everywhere so Greg got to know "Mouse Man" well. He was in a wheelchair full time at this point, and the house we were looking at had a wheelchair ramp and 6500 sq ft of living space. The house we were in still was quickly getting cramped with all of our son's medical equipment and frequent therapy sessions. We wheeled Mouse Man around and thought how nice it would be for him and his siblings to have so much more space. His bedroom was quickly picked - an office with a glass door so we could easily check on him and even the paint job that most would consider unappealing was perfect because the colors were the two colors Mouse Man could see best when contrasted with each other. It really seemed like this was meant to be. We decided to think on it and I believe within a week or so we revisited and decided to write up an offer which was quickly negotiated out and agreed upon. Greg gave us great advice on selling the old house. He gave us one piece of advice about moving some furniture and we thought, "Well we disagree, it looks nice like that." Boy were we wrong. We had a showing and sure enough - the complaint from the agent's clients was related to the furniture. After that we decided to heed every single bit of advice - do this, do that, change this, clean that. It was a lot of work, a lot of frustrating showings, some unkind comments, multiple offers that fell through, and we were growing more aggravated by the day. Greg was always encouraging us. He promised he would get it sold, and that we'd get back what we put in. We actually refused a low ball offer three weeks after listing, which (literally) paid off in September when we were finally offered a fair price from a wonderful buyer. It was an odd 'contingent' offer; the buyer needed to sell her home first, but wanted to rent our home until she closed on hers, and then until we closed on this one she was renting from us. This worked out well for us and really is a dream situation for anyone with an offer contingent on closing on their current home first. But here's what makes Greg amazing. He knows his clients, he knows them well, and he knows their needs. He gets to know his clients, and he got to know our special little guy. We had a move-in date for our renter/buyer and we needed to have a lease signed, deposit and rent collected, the i's dotted and t's crossed on that date, a Saturday in mid September. But Mouse Man caught a cold, it developed into pneumonia, and I found him the Monday prior to the move-in date, having lost his battle with his rare disease. With all the chaos going on, Greg said not to worry about a thing. The funeral was set to take place on move-in day, and Greg made sure to take care of everything for us so that we could say goodbye to our son. We closed on our first home we bought while our son was in the NICU having a permanent feeding tube surgically placed, and Greg moved in our renter/buyer while we said goodbye to that same son. If you want a real estate agent who is investing themselves into you, your family, and your needs, call Greg. He takes a real interest in his clients. He doesn't pull any punches, he gives real advice, but you are more than a payday to him.
