Yoshi's is by far my favorite sushi in PDX. I have been coming here for years every Saturday and have never been disappointed. It is very obvious that Yoshi uses the highest quality fish that is available and his creativity (thinking especially of the seasonal Sakura blossom madai) is one of the highlights that sets his place apart from well-established brick and mortars. He provides great service and is also amenable to catering large orders (by price or by fish as available) if given enough notice. I can't say enough how much I love this place and Yoshi himself!

No shrink inflation here. Everything is so amazing and so delicious and even the special rules are amazing.

We were up from the San Franscisco Bay Area to visit some friends who moved up to Portland years ago. We tasked ourselves with bringing in lunch, something that is easy to do with the diversity of food carts and trucks. Yoshi's Sushi with 115 reviews and 4.9 stars intrigued us immensely. I found the business model to be clever. As a one-person operation, one has to be very careful to manage time. There's no one to get more product, prep more ingredients or handle walk-up customers. Taking orders throughout the day, Yoshi can stay on top of all of these elements. I placed my order on the phone at 10:30 for a 12:30 pick-up. I wasn't sure who all ate what, so we decided to order our core food here and then other items from the various carts in the same Pod. For the other carts, we did not pay as much attention to their ratings as we did to what they offered. I ordered: Nigiri Salmon Albacore Hotate Tamago Mushroom Inari Rolls Spicy Tuna California Roll We walked up at 12:25 and our order was ready. Yoshi was very kind and friendly. By far, Yoshi's food was the hit of the "buffet". I only wish that I had doubled up on the Nigiri and tried the other rolls on offer (except Jackfruit). No doubt that having a smaller menu guarantees that there will be no waste. No waste means higher profitability and quicker turnover of ingredients. By only taking orders on the phone means lower labor costs and very little standing around waiting for customers. I read a few reviews where people whined and complained about arriving only to find that they had to place orders on the phone in advance. I don't feel bad for them because they failed to do their due diligence and read his website. I do feel bad for them because they missed out on a fantastic meal!

Came by during Multnomah Days event on 8/17 because we were looking for something to do, and knew Yoshi's would be taking walk up orders. They were doing only hand rolls with limited nigiri like tamago and inari. My husband got 3 hand rolls, and I got 2 hand rolls with an order of tamago. There was seating in the area, it was quite busy given the event though I am not sure how it compares to other weekend days as this was our first time here. We were lucky to grab a table with covering as it was quite hot I was a little bit limited in what I could try because I'm pregnant, so I got the katsu tuna and California handroll. Both were delicious! My husband got the salmon avocado, shrimp/scallop, and one of the special hand rolls (I forget the name, it was a seared fish of some sort). We definitely hope to come back again to try their full menu of rolls and nigiri/sashimi!

The hype is worth it. It was one of the best nigiris I've had. And how is the spicy tuna subtly smoky? I absolutely devoured all of it. Cant wait to go back. Called around 11am for a dinner pickup. The food was ready to go 10 min before the pickup when I went up to pick it up. Yoshi is very friendly and a master!

I ordered at 9:58, 1st call, line was busy, 2nd call, I got through. I was told the earliest I can pick up will be at 12:15pm. Came at 12:15 and our order was ready. My favorite is their tuna belly tonkatsu. We ordered almost everything on the menu. Everything was great. Fish was fresh and very tasty! I would definitely go back!

This is one of the best sushi spots in Portland at a price point that is accessible to many people. The only downside is that you have to actually call them to place an order. There is no way to submit an order online or even in person. The phone line opens at 10am for pickup anytime during their lunch 12pm-2pm or dinner 4pm-7pm hours. We called right at 10am but no one picked up, but someone called a few minutes later so we placed our order in for 12pm pickup, and at that time, we went to the food cart for our nicely decorated boxed up sushi order. We got the seared albacore nigiri, hotate (scallops) nigiri, house-made tamago nigiri, and lime green roll with salmon add-on. It was about $40 total for this order that my friend and I shared, which is a satisfactory amount of food. I'd say 1-2 more orders of nigiri or 1 more roll will make it a fairly filling meal. The seared albacore nigiri was very flavorful and reminds me of a similar quality to what I have had at omakases. The hotate was also fairly delicious, but not as extra fresh as the seared albacore. The tamago nigiri is slightly sweet, perfect for dessert, and the bonus is that the Yoshi's name is engraved on top of the tamago. I'd recommend it, especially for those that are interested in taking a nice food photo. The lime green roll is fairly light yet delicious even though the base of the roll is vegetarian - sesame crusted spinach, cucumber, roasted pepper, avocado, micro green salad, and ginger miso. The addition of salmon made this a slightly pricier roll, but the flavors marry together extremely well. I would definitely order from here again when I have a sushi craving, given that I am in Portland. I am thoroughly impressed by this place.

What a spot. After our family had a bad experience with Saburo's, we have been on the search for great sushi and when we came across the excellent reviews of Yoshi's, we knew we had to go. We ordered by phone and picked up our sushi. The owner (who I assume is Yoshi) was so nice when we picked up, and it felt amazing to support someone who seems so genuinely in love with this craft. I was just so excited by how beautiful everything looked and I knew by the color that everything was super fresh. Portions were generous for the price. In fact, I might be willing to pay more. It was that good. I can't wait to go back and order everything else on the menu. He does have some vegan options, which is likely appreciated by the general Portland community, but the traditional nigiris are the things you should definitely order.

Ok first dangggggggggggggg!! I don't normally rave places much but this place has to be the hand down best sushi in oregon. So fresh and different flavor. Order right away because they do get sold out quick. They take phone orders. If your a sushi fan. Must come spot!!

If I could I would give them 6 stars. This is arguably the best sushi I have ever had. Not a food truck person but this threw out my whole mantra. Let me walk you through the process. You have to place in your order via phone call the day of and pick a pickup time. The thought around it is Chef Yoshi wants the exact amount ingredients so the quality and freshness of the food isn't lost. (I called a few times in the morning and eventually got them.) I literally ordered everything on the menu for the experience. It was melt in your mouth goood. I almost fainted. My favorite was everything but if I must choose the Green Lime Roll is splendid. It's so bright and fresh. The last point i have to highlight is there high attention to detail to take out. The presentation and curation of the take out orders were a pleasant surprise. If you are in the Portland area this is a must.

We discovered Yoshi on munchies and wanted to try it out while we were visiting Portland. Orders are taken only over the phone so we called right at opening around 10 for pickup in the afternoon (you get to choose your pickup time). Parking is rough but we were able to snag a spot right behind the food truck to run in and pick it up. We chose a variety of the nigiris available and loved everything!! The salmon was super buttery but the scallop nigiri was definitely our favorite. We'll be getting more of that when we return next time

I've been trying to sample the hype for two years but apparently only the early birds get the rolls. I was firmly able to try a few hand rolls during Multnomsh days and found out what friends have been talking about. The food speaks for itself, the owners are super cool and the live music was brought it all together.

I had seen this on the list of best sushi around. I was suspicious but willing to give it a try. Ok. It's probably one of the best sushi I've had. The tamago was excellent. All of the right flavors and such a pretty presentation. Only one place makes a better One in my opinion but nonetheless a winner. California roll was the perfect size. Good value actually. The rice was perfectly seasoned with an ideal rice to filling ratio. Good seasoning on the krab. Overall very satisfying. The scallop was the winner. It had all of the textures and all of the flavors going. Sweet, salty, acid, spice. It had everything. I wanted more. Not cheap sushi by any stretch but $20 left me satisfied. I'm really glad this was not around when I lived in multnomah. I'd be here all the time.

Some of my favorites were - kanpachi - kome buri - ama ebi - salmon (I liked it more than the king salmon, maybe I have peasant taste) - toro The omakase was well thought out as you can see and we even enjoyed the miso soup. I think the price tag of $100/person can initially be steep but you can easily spend this much on these nicer orders. I was also worried they might drop the quality during the AYCE portion but it continued to be delicious and service was consistent throughout (there was another group of 13 people so service was a bit slow having to divide time between the rest of the restaurant and them). I highly recommend this place and will for sure come back. Some delicious quality fish and my new favorite if I'm coming hungry!

With a combined 115 years of experience this restaurant shines with what feels like authentic sushi. We were there with a group of four and were seated promptly for our reservation at 5:45 PM. Our server Ben was an absolute delight and brought vibrancy and genuineness to his service. So shoutout to Ben. I was a bit disappointed that they were unable to accommodate my Tokyo Tea request for a cocktail (I'm always about efficiency when drinking ) but the cocktails that we did receive were elegant and refreshing. But now to the meat of the review or should I say fish? We were taken on a journey through the Toyosu fish market or so I'm and had several delicious rolls such as the Yama roll, Salmon and Scallop, Jamison and the simple California roll. We also had two of the nigiri the salmon belly and the unagi which were both fall apart tender deliciousness in your mouth. Needless to say I am looking forward to our next visit and would love to experience their version of an omakase since the quality was there.

Service was average, but the food more than made up for it. Because of that first experience, we decided to place a fairly large takeout order for a family dinner last night. Big mistake. We were told the order would be ready in 30 minutes. We arrived on time only to discover they had not even started preparing it yet. The explanation was "a computer issue," but nobody called us to let us know there would be a delay, and no real apology was offered. By the time we finally got the food, we were already late for dinner and had to head straight home. When we opened the bag, the nigiri had been packed so poorly that everything was jumbled together in a heap. We literally spent 10 minutes trying to reassemble the sushi ourselves. What disappointed us most was the way management handled the situation afterward. We called expecting that a restaurant positioning itself as upscale would want to make things right. Instead, the manager argued with us, reviewed security footage, and claimed that because we briefly checked the bag at pickup, the order must have been fine when it left the restaurant. We checked that the boxes were there -- we did not open every container because we trusted the restaurant to package the food properly. The bottom line: the dine-in experience may still be worth it because the food itself is genuinely very good, but based on our experience, order takeout at your own risk.
