We stayed at Bug Resort during our Yosemite trip. The location is about 40 minutes from the Arch Rock entrance and roughly an hour from the Valley Floor. We booked a private room with a bath, which was comfortable, a bit outdated, but fine for our stay. Since there weren't many photos or videos online, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the resort turned out to be charming. There are nice amenities including a walking trail, campfire area, laundry, foosball, spa, and café. The café served a great breakfast, though dinner was just okay. The steak could've used more seasoning, and the noodle dish was average. Both meals were generous portions. We did have an issue at the spa during the muscle rejuvenation soak, as both of us had an allergic reaction. We weren't able to use the hot tub or sauna afterward, which was disappointing. However, we spoke with the owners and they agreed to refund us- still pending as of September 2, but I appreciate that they took responsibility. Another plus is that the resort is only about 15 minutes from Mariposa, where you can find unique shops and restaurants. Overall, we wouldn't mind staying here again, though the drive back and forth from Yosemite did get a bit tiring.

We stayed in horsetail B tent/cabin. Had two twins and one full bed. The cabin had ac/heater and a small fan. Restrooms and showers are shared and the laundry room has better sinks to brush your teeth than the toilet rooms. Breakfast at the cafe was good. If you are someone who wakes up in the middle of the night to use the restroom keep in mind you have to walk to the communal bathroom unless you pay for the cabins with private restroom. They gave us two keys but only one worked. It didn't bothered us since we were only two people. The beds are surprisingly comfortable.

This is wonderful place. Has a small office, common kitchen fully loaded and eating space where you can eat together with everyone, a play area with some pool tables, enough parking spots and multiple bathrooms and shower rooms. We got a small room with a queen bed. It was small but perfect for two people. The only issue we saw the wifi didnt reach our tent, so we had no network! They also have a cafe nearby but it is way too expensive. Theres a spa with a day charge which is great too. Overall great for the price, specially when compared to other places nearby.

Clean and cozy spot. Easily accessible from the highway. Relatively close to Yosemite. Affordable rates with the option to share rooms and bathrooms or have your own private room. The cafeteria is always warm and has decent food all day!

This spot is horrible. You should never stay here! All jokes aside. I love The Bug. The food is always delicious. Fresh and plenty of options. Even some vegan plates. The rooms are a little outdated, but that just adds to the experience. Take advantage of the spa. Especially if you're out exploring the park. The Bug has become a tradition for me and will be for years to come.

Quaint and comfortable stay just a 50 minute drive from Yosemite. ~Location~ This resort is located up in the mountains and has multiple options for different types of rooms ranging from hostel-type to shared bathrooms to private rooms. We opted for the private room with a bathroom and enjoyed it. ~Rooms~ We were assigned the Glacier cabin which comes with an attached bath. We shared a wall with the cabin next door but did not have any complaints regarding noise or sound. Cabin- 5/5: clean and comfortable room. There was a refrigerator included in room which was super convenient for snacks. One of my favorite things were the hot showers. Nothing like a nice hot shower after a long day of hiking. They also had a fan and AC unit in the room which worked perfectly. Bed- 5/5: The bed was comfortable and I felt like I had a pretty decent night's rest for being away from home ~Parking~ They have a few parking lots and depending on how full it gets, you may need to park on the sides. We were there for labor day weekend and parking did get pretty busy during the weekend rush. ~Staff~ 5/5: Friendly and accommodating staff ~Food~ 4/5: On site restaurant for quick meals and coffee in the AM. We enjoyed two dinners at the restaurant. They have a daily menu that is robust in options and caters to all food types ~Check In~ 3/5: I wish there had been an email or further instructions on how to find check in office; we were a little lost in the beginning when locating the office for check in and spent some time roaming before we were able to find it. ~Amenities~ They have a spa area with a hot tub, yoga room, sauna which we did not use but looked clean and promising. ~Pricing~ 4/5: Relatively affordable lodging compared to some other options in/near Yosemite Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while exploring Yosemite.

When you read the name of this place, there is cause for concern, so don't take the name lightly! I'm terrified of bugs, but since options for hotels were limited for our visit to Yosemite (either expensive or far from Yosemite), we decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt cuz why would you advertise that there are bugs in your rooms?!?! We stayed in one of the private rooms (Bear A). During our stay, we encountered 3 bugs in our room (2 spiders, and 1 bee). One of the spiders was on the bathroom ceiling, so we couldn't reach it to kill it. The other spider was in the shower. The bee was also in the shower, but it was already dead in a puddle of water. For fear that the spider would fall on our heads while we were in the bathroom, we asked the lady in the front desk if they could provide a ladder or have someone come in to kill the spider. The lady in the front desk said the maintenance guys were out, but she was able to get one of the cafe guys to come assist and kill the spiders. Thank goodness for the hero who came to rid our room of the spiders. He truly deserves a medal. Here is the breakdown: Room overall: 1/5. Our room was Bear A. There were lots of marks and stains in the room, so it definitely wasn't the nicest room ever. The room was also quite snug and on the small side. It had two twin beds, which were very creaky and not very comfortable. The room also has a private bathroom. Bathroom was quite small, especially the sink since there was barely any surface area to put your stuff on. There were bottles of what I am guessing were body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, but the bottles weren't labeled so I have no idea what I put in my hair and on my body. As I mentioned before, there seems to be a bug issue, since we came across 3 bugs in our room in the span of two days. Even around the outside of the cabins (on the deck and the stairs), there were lots of spider webs. It would be nice if this place tried to at least clean the outside of the cabin a bit to prevent bugs from entering. Parking: 3/5. There were two parking lots. If you park in the lower lot, you have to walk up an incline in addition to stairs to get to your cabin. The upper lot is harsh for the car since it has gravel. At least parking is free Wifi: 3/5. Free wifi, which is a must because there is no service here. Wifi isn't the fastest, but it works Noise: 3/5. No major issues here, but since the cabins/rooms were close together, you can hear some noises. Service: 5/5. Service here is quite stellar. They do try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The staff is very friendly, and the front desk lady went above and beyond to find someone to take care of the spider problem. The cafe guy who killed the spider also went above and beyond. Accessibility to Yosemite: 3/5. It's about 40 ish minutes to the entrance of Yosemite, but there's a section that is a one way road, so traffic is stopped to allow cars to take turns on the bridge. This causes delays so the drive to Yosemite will likely be longer, closer to an hour drive. Overall, if it weren't for all the bugs in our room, I would say our stay would have been a solid 3/5 stars (even with the small rooms and uncomfortable beds), but the bugs situation was really disappointing.

Ask the Community - Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort

Will it be too cold to sleep in the tents that do not have heating during winter?

No they provide wool throws, I bring my thermals. Some of my friends think it's too hot. If you're worried being a sleeping bag

Does the private queen and private bathroom have its own entrance? Or how do they look?

Yes they do. Different decor for the rooms. Ours was so charming. Check my review for pictures. Other rooms may be more plain so ask in advance for the room you want. Everything was luxurious and pristine given these are cabins and less than…

Is this place good for kids?

OMG yes!!!!!! I took my son at age 10 and again at 11. Lots of kids there!

They're described as "Tiny home-style accommodations offering additional space and a little more privacy." That additional space made a big difference for the four of us! The kitchen had a 2-burner stove which was really nice since we didn't have to rely on cooking over a fire. Each staff member we interacted with was just so kind and friendly. My kids especially loved the scavenger hunt that was mentioned at check-in. It was a fun way to explore the property more than we ever did and of course the "prize" was the best motivation! There was also a cute mini pumpkin patch set up for a photo opportunity. We've only ever gone when it's cold so I wasn't sure how it would be when it's hot. When we got into our suite, the blasting AC felt amazing! And having dinner outside on the patio deck was just perfect weather. The gas fire pit on the patio provided a nice ambiance and then we roasted marshmallows for s'mores over a wood-burning fire below us, overlooking the little pond. My kids absolutely loved this and also enjoyed stargazing. We did our best to pack for our impromptu trip but I didn't have to worry much because they also have a small general store and kitchen serving a variety of food. Complimentary coffee and granola are still provided in the clubhouse in the mornings! Their 2-hour charging for EVs was a great perk we utilized as well. Thank you, AutoCamp Yosemite for some new core memories for our family. It was such a nice getaway for us :)

We wanted the camping experience. But Yosemite is difficult for camping reservations so we went this route. And I have to say it added to the entire Yosemite trip. A couple downsides. One, is that it's an hour from the central hub of Yosemite. And when you consider how crazy finding parking can be in Yosemite right now that is a pretty serious negative if I'm honest. But. It's a gorgeous drive. Two, you have to use wagons to haul your gear to your space. We luckily were not very far, but it did take us several trips. And lastly, I really wish that the bathrooms for the tents was separate from the clubhouse. Basically the bathrooms for the pool and the clubhouse and the adventure tents are all one and the same. Would've liked the adventure tents to have their own bathroom, giving a little more privacy. There were several events while we stayed there (I do think it's a cool place to have an event or even a wedding), but the people from the events were constantly coming in and out of the bathrooms. Shared bathrooms aren't my favorite to begin with. Trying to take a shower while event goers are popping in and out... Not my fave. All that said, I really enjoyed the vibe of the place overall. Some of the air streams and cabins are situated on a cute little pond.. Aaaaand. The pool made us all happy at the end of the day. The entire staff here is so dog friendly. The clubhouse had really cool little areas. And was very clean. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. The clubhouse has a tiny kitchen with a few nibbles. As well as a bar. Highly recommend the margaritas! Pizza was solid as well. Cute little gift shop with some snacks and essentials and souvenirs. I haven't stayed in Curry Village, but we saw it when we did the mist trail and yikes. This place is so much nicer than the tents, the pool, or the facilities there. If you're looking for a glamping/adventure tent situation I would recommend auto camp. We want to check out their location in Sequoia next!

On August 20, 2020 we received a mandatory evacuation notice for Scotts Valley, CA due to a raging…read moreforest fire close to our home. We worked our way east and spent two nights at the Tenaya Lodge, just outside the South entrance to Yosemite National Park. This is supposedly a very up-scale hotel and the facilities were very nice, but not worth the several hundred dollars per night that we paid. The restaurant food was just so-so. Access to the Park is severely limited due to the virus. An advanced reservation is required to enter, but we found it to be impossible to get one. We even drove to the Park entrance and pleaded with the staff (claiming we were forced evacuees) but to no avail. To be so close and not be allowed in was extremely disappointing. I went to Travelocity to book subsequent nights and found the River Rock Inn in Mariposa, CA. This historic inn is Mariposa's oldest motel and was constructed in 1941. It is about a block off the main road (hiway 140) and is quiet and peaceful. We did not know when we would be allowed back to our home, so our reservation had to be open ended. I talked to Stephanie Erikson, the owner, about not specifying a check out day and she was very accommodating. Our room, actually a two-room suite, was great; very clean with comfortable beds. Free Wi-Fi that was very reliable, Direct TV, refrigerator, and a wall mounted air conditioner that was quiet - unlike the AC unit in the Tenaya Lodge. The housekeeping was excellent and our hosts, Stephanie and Keith made us feel very welcome. Their customer service was excellent also. We liked it much better than the Tenaya Lodge. There are several good restaurants in town so we ate well! We discovered a great way to get to Yosemite: a bus service called YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transit System) runs frequently from Merced to the Yosemite Visitors Center. There are three stops in Mariposa - one only 80 yards from our room. It takes about 90 minutes from Mariposa to Yosemite Valley. AND, the best part is that no Park reservation is required. Just get on the bus, pay the driver, and you are delivered to the Visitor's Center. Since the park shuttle bus is not running now, you can rent bikes at the Center (with a smart phone app) or hike around the Park. YARTS told me their busses have room for only one bike. Finding the River Rock Inn was the best part of the evacuation. After 5 nights there, we were allowed back to our home. Actually, the fire never got closer than 5 miles from our house. We were very lucky and grateful.

It's still about a 15-20 min drive away from Yosemite Valley and the visitors center, so from that perspective 5 stars for convenience. If you are lucky enough to snag lodging with reservation.gov, then even better, but that comes with a heftier price tag. Otherwise most other places will easily be 45-60min out. We booked a loft for 2 of us, which was extremely spacious, in fact the place would have accommodated 4 adults and 2 children. We had a few hiccups at check in, the code to the door wasn't set to the right code, there was unreliable reception, so it took awhile to get a hold of someone to let us in, it actually seems like we may have been the only ones in the building because the power was cut off at first until they turned it back on later. Otherwise, this is going to be more "luxurious" than camping, for example, but certainly not a 5 star place. The small kitchenette fit our needs perfectly and we were glad they had satellite TV. All in all, we were comfortable.

My family and I have booked through Scenic Wonders for roughly four trips over the past few years, averaging about $3,000 per stay. We also had friends join us on several occasions. The properties themselves were generally decent, and the main selling point has always been the proximity to Yosemite's major sites. However, the cabins are noticeably dated -- many feel like they haven't been updated in 20+ years -- and considering the higher price point and added cleaning fees, the overall condition could be significantly better. The reason I will never book with Scenic Wonders again is the complete lack of customer service and flexibility. Their cancellation policy is extremely rigid, and in my experience, their communication can be unhelpful or even misleading. You are also taking on substantial risk when booking with them: if there are blackouts, storms, fires, or heavy smoke pollution, you will not be compensated or accommodated in any meaningful way. Their trip insurance adds cost and hassle without providing real protection. After several stays, it's clear to me that Scenic Wonders offers premium pricing without premium service. There are far better options in and around Yosemite that provide updated cabins, better management, and more reasonable policies -- often at lower nightly rates and with fewer fees. I highly recommend considering alternatives such as: The Redwoods in Yosemite Private Yosemite West cabins on Airbnb/VRBO (often 15-40% cheaper for the same neighborhood) Foresta Cabins Tenaya Lodge Cottages Autocamp Yosemite (slightly farther from the Valley but far better service) As someone who has stayed with Scenic Wonders multiple times, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. You'll likely find better value, better service, and far more accommodating policies.

The rooms have a small stove, and accompanying dish ware. There were also pots and pans in the room. We visited in late July early August. There was a fireplace and seating. We had two beds, both were made up. The outdoor space had a small table and four chairs. This was nice. The view was as advertised, the river was very close and the other side was not developed. At the time of this writing, there was an event center going in. Since we booked through a third party, the room was paid for. I was surprised to hear that there was fees and taxes that were not included and had to be paid, for each night of the stay. The restaurant, bar and pizza place were in full operation. The dinner was a bit pricey, but the service was on point. A friendly staff was there and the waitress paid close attention. The bar served food to go. The pizza had outdoor seating and the cocktails were made to order. The general store had a bit of everything, including items to be prepared in the kitchenette. Okay - the dirt. The interior is okay. The carpet and chairs had stains that should not have been there. The restroom was clean. The rooms are a very nice size, but, for the money a bit could be spent on upgrades to the mattress. Sheets are okay. There was only regular coffee in the room. I don't drink decaffeinated, but was surprised there were no options for decaf or tea. All the sugar and substitute were there. The creamer is powdered and there was no option for alternative. My big disappointment was the lodge buffet. For the price, they could use some presentation. The food was good, but the variety was missing. They do try and there is something for everyone, but I wanted a couple items made to order and that is not an option. Overall we would return.
