The prison is really neat - from getting a sense of how it was Luis to be locked in one of the cells to the ability to watch/listen holograms of famous prisoners - very interesting and a highlight in York!!

They…read moreare picturesque and old and a good piece of Filey history would have been lost.Looking at the outside I never dreamed how much history would be inside.There is quite a few rooms and lots of info with audio commentries. My Dad was from an old Filey family so I was able to see how it was when he grew up. I also read a local newspaper from the year I was born.There is a lot about how Filey developed. There is a nice garden at the back and they let dogs in it if they are well behaved.The whole place is beautifully kept and a credit it to its volunteers.The out side is painted white and I have never seen it look other than clean and bright.If you go look out for the old plaque which says the fear of god be in you and a date. Check the times if you as it doesnt open in Winter.

It's been a few weeks now and I still think about this experience. I really loved how they created the village (although I could have done without the scents hahah) and even built out some of the people based on bones. The attention to detail (such as the tattoos and spoken language) was awesome. The museum was great and full of fantastic artifacts. Absolutely worth visiting, to be honest.

There is a rather good audio commentary but unfortunately it does not work as intended because there is a very poor mobile signal and the free Wi-Fi does not work in the main exhibition areas, it only works close to reception. Doubtless this is due to the thick walls of the former jail, but if the investment in Wi-Fi that covered the whole place could be made, it would enable visitors to make full use of some good material (which I listened to later when connected elsewhere). Anyway, that aside, it is an interesting place with plenty of exhibits and explanations about the misery of being a prisoner in that building, and memorabilia relating to the police.

The exhibits are quite 'traditional', but this doesn't detract from the charm of the museum, in fact quite often you can be the only people in the attraction which gives it a certain atmosphere, especially when you are wandering around the haunted rooms! The museum is large enough to while away an hour, but not too big that it would be boring for younger visitors. The promise of a play in the park and an icecream should keep them quiet and on their best behaviour too - the park opposite the museum is large and well kept and has something for everyone.

There was not one moan from any of the children..(5, altogether,from 2 to 14)..they all seemed very happyand interested in the museum.Never got into the Owl sanctuary as it was closedand looked quite expensive anyway.But we all enjoyed the dayand look forward to going again.

I wasn't…read moredisappointed and there was so much to see.It was more real than I could have dreamed.A lot is just as it was and you could imagine them in the dining room and the dispensry was amazing. We sat in the gardena and it was like something out of my childhood and I allmost expected to see a young Herriot sleeping in a pram.A lot of the kitchen stuff etc. were things I remembered seeing in use years ago.I watch the repeats of the programmes with new eyes.
