The Wishing Well is the restaurant within The New Country Inn open to the public and residents alike. The restaurant and bar has been opened for about 2 years now and has certainly impressed the locals by the superb facilities on offer and the very friendly staff. The Wishing Well is a family orientated restaurant with spacious seating indoor and out, with high chair and changing facilities for small ones. There is a fabulous children's menu, which caters for vegetarians and meal eaters alike, so even my picky three were happy. I was impressed by the sheer variety of dishes available for adults too. There's everything from traditional gammon and chips and steak to fish dishes and lasagne and different options for lunch, tea or just snacks. The starters are pretty tempting too, as are the sweets, but my three love the ice cream Sundays the best!As well as the restaurant and bar The Wishing Well regularly hold pub quizzes and fun nights. We attended the family Halloween evening, where the children dressed up and played all evening to the entrainment provided.

When I went in it was friendly enough but mainly had locals from Riccall in there, so did feel slightly out of place! I would never go there unless I happen to be in Riccall again for some reason.

The staff were attentive and had no problems in table service and checking we were okay. We all had part of the steak deal which was amazing! The Jack Rabbit wine was to die for! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and i was looking forward to visiting again this year. Having enjoyed our night so much we decided to go again but was severely disappointed. There appears to be new managers, very rude and didn't appear to care. I was waiting at the bar for over 10 minutes before i was even acknowledged by the landlady who was sat talking to people/customers. Finally after getting our drinks my husband received a very flat pint of Carling. At over 3 pounds a pint i told him to go back and get it changed. The landlady's response to this was, after a huff and a puff, 'its not my fault, its tough you already took the pint away.' under her breath. I thought that attitude was disgusting! After some negotiation we still decided to order food and sat down at our table at the bottom end of the restaurant. Yet again i was disappointed at how dirty it was with leftover food on the floor and seats, i was embarresed to have recommended this place to people. As we were right next to the kitchen all we could hear was there radio very loud and constant swearing and shouting from the chef, who seems to be the new landlord, not what i want to hear whilst having tea! The prices have seem to increased dramatically in the past year and the standard of the food dropped!!The veg that was brought out to us was very watery like it had been sat around for ages and reheated, my husbands lasagne was cold and my sister sent her steak back to be redone as she asked for rare and received very well done! Its safe to say i will NOT be returning to the Hare and Hounds again and defiantly NOT recommend it to people. The attitude of people was disgusting and it felt like only regulars and locals should be in there. When we left it was more like a youth club than a pub! They have definitely lost the standards the old managers had and its a shame.
