Cod dinner

We ate dinner on Friday evening for the fish fry. The restaurant is nice and clean. There's a combination of high top and low tables plus bar seating. The food was glorified bar food and we were disappointed. The cod dinner had 4 small pieces of cod sitting in butter. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes were delicious. The fried shrimp (beer battered) dinner included coleslaw and we ordered the french fries. The shrimp was plump and juicy but there was too much batter. The flavor was good. York House is on the Midland golf course.

Service was excellent very friendly staff. Little confusing when you enter, no host or signing to seat yourself . Place is definitely hard to find, signs are confusing it's basically behind the Lotis Inn attached to Midlane Country Club. It was Friday and I had fish but went with baked to be "healthy". Was kinda salty tasting but overall the meal was delicious. My partner had the steak sandwich it's served open faced with fries and au jus. Small place with great seating and service. Gaming room for those interested.

We had the Deep fried lake perch and baked walleye. Food was amazing. Our server Carrie was amazing. We will be back!

Food was not good. Only one server for all of the tables. Odd entrance and not clear signage for new customers.

It was a weeknight, but the street we were driving up to get here was a little dark and run down. But don't let that deter you. They have a nice sized parking lot for their location. Then we walked inside and found a narrow room with a bar running the length of one long wall and counter height tables and chairs perpendicular to the opposite wall. They really jammed in as much as they could in the space that they have. The ambience was dark and moody. They were playing hard rock and the bar had a couple of regulars sitting inside. At the end of the bar at the far end, was a cubicle of a kitchen. That's where the magic happens. Their menu is simple: appetizers, burgers, and build your own burgers. That's it. We all built our own burgers and they have a LOT of options. However, the build your own may start at $9, but each topping adds to the cost. But who cares? The burgers were phenomenal! Their website clearly states, "Best burgers, ever." And they're not wrong. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. And everything is made in this tiny area at the end of the bar. We were the only people in the place after about 20 minutes, but again, who cares. The staff were extremely friendly. Their playful banter and bickering when they cleaned up was hilarious to listen to, and they were lovely to talk to as well. One of our group wanted to pick up some Spotted Cow beer (you can't get it in Illinois) and asked about a place to get it nearby. They suggested Shenanigan's with a drive-through just a couple blocks away. We have to make another trek back. They are awesome and their burgers are great, too!

You get a variation of about 12 burgers to choose from, chicken sandwiches, wraps, salads. Fries included - about 50% less than a Five Guys or Shake Shack and to be honest, the burger I had was better than those - which are good, but their prices have soared. We didn't order a milk shake, but their selection of different shakes look to be awesome. The owner is behind the grill and he really wants to please you. I love an owner who has his heart and soul into his establishment - there is a face to the business. I want to support hard working people like this - I recommend them highly!!

I clearly stated in my online order that the burger should be plain with only cheese, and I trusted that those instructions would be followed. As a result, I became sick after eating part of the burger, which was extremely disappointing and concerning. I understand mistakes happen, but this experience has made me hesitant to order again. Customers should be able to trust that special requests and allergy-related instructions will be taken seriously. Especially when it's online and easy to read and follow. I also ordered two mozzarella stick orders, one with marinara sauce, and one with ranch. Got two orders with marinara sauce. No ranch. Annoying.

We really appreciated her humor and patience with us (especially with the situation with the bench seat). All in all Addison was a great person to have wait on us. The food was good overall, and I enjoyed the flavors. However, our food orders got mixed up, which was a little annoying. My brother also thought his burger was a little too rare for his liking. One of my biggest pet peeves at restaurants is when they hand out unwrapped straws without using a napkin to grab and hand them to customers. I asked our waitress for a straw, and she pulled one out of her apron and handed it directly to me. I found that disgusting and unsanitary! If the straws aren't individually wrapped, at least use a napkin to handle them instead of handing them to customers with bare hands that have been touching everything. It's basic common sense when it comes to cleanliness and food safety. On the plus side, there were plenty of TVs to watch sports, the restaurant was fairly clean, parking was plentiful, and the drinks were good as well. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but the mix-up with our order and the straw situation took away from the experience.
