I've been here twice in the last 2 weekends coming from Baltimore building a gym. Both times, John handled checkout and customer service, and was helpful and knowledgeable! Their scratch and dent room in the back is the holy grail of discount inventory. They have tons of new equipment as well. Since you are completely bypassing shipping the heavy equipment, everything was insanely cheap considering the quality. I've been lifting weights for 10 years and this place provided the most satisfying gym equipment buying experience I've ever had. There's also an extremely cool museum in there. read more

The worst of the worst, never ever deal with them, it's a Nightmare ! Forty years ago this company was in good hands under Bob Hoffman, the owner who prides himself on making really great products like the hammer head dumbells that are highly sought after & quite pricy, they're like my 1" York EZ curl bar they don't make anymore & they can't get me a collar that fits. Only one of the muscle clamps works because they have problems with them now as well. The current standard is in the gutter, as well as the customer service including the enept Zach.who has stuck me with a sub par rep, I email Zach directly & this fool answers me, that's pathetic Zach. read more

Drove 2.5 hrs for a couple of dumbbell racks. Paid for them but when I got to the warehouse they only had one. So the manager refunded the cost at that time and said he'd sell me one for a bit less when they were back in stock to help make up for the additional 2.5 hour drive (5 hr round trip). Well, they're back in stock and the manager renigged. Says he can't sell it to me at that price now. This has ended my relationship with York. I'll be buying all of my equipment and plates elsewhere. Honest and integrity is very important to me and they have demonstrated they have none of either. read more

York Barbell's customer service has been appalling. I call and leave messages that never get returned, send emails that go unanswered. When I finally get through to someone they promise me I will get a return call that day... still nothing! For 5 weeks we've been contacting "warranty" about our MELTING weights and we're getting no response. read more

I wanted to buy local, I wanted to buy York but they just were not set up to make that happen. My brother and I took the day off to attend the "one day" reopening of the retail store on June 9th. Arriving 15 min before the doors opened and found myself to be #130 in line. I was willing to wait all day as long as I could make a purchase but after 4 hours of waiting (they had only been able to help 40 customers at that point) two employees made their way through the line writing down our ideal purchase with the "promise" that someone would be in contact by Monday - Tuesday to take the order. They even were offering to ship product at their expense since they were not set up to handle the flow of customers. By that next Wednesday I had turned down several opportunities to buy some equipment from other vendors who had stock arrive; I turned those down as I was holding onto the hope that York would pull through. After follow up emails had gone unanswered I finally gave up hope. Good news for me their competitors had set up simple notifications to let me know when equipment came in. I was able to get what I needed for a similar price online. Again, I wanted to by local, I wanted to buy York...just wish they could have made that happen. I would have understood a straight "out of stock" answer but they let me believe that I had a chance. Will look else where for what I need from here on out. read more

I ordered a set of 5 lb. fit bells from York Barbell's online store. Since I live in York, I was able to pick them up at the site of the brick and mortar store and warehouse. When I discovered they are different colors and different sizes I called the physical store. I was instructed to take the return to the warehouse. When I did so, the warehouse personnel directed me to the physical store for the refund or replacement. But, the clerk at the store said they are not allowed to take web store returns. I'm only talking about $10.90!!! I contacted the web stores customer support. Now I have to make an appointment with the warehouse manager to get my $10.90 refund. Seriously??? Because of the pandemic, I decided to buy all my workout equipment for home use. Most items were limited, but fortunately, I found the barbell I was looking for at York Barbell, online. The price first caught my eye. After reading a rollercoaster of reviews, I ordered it with skepticism. I was impatient, but the item arrived in 7 days and the quality was outstanding, but I couldn't get the screw lock off one end. I then noticed that that end was damaged. This happened on a Thursday, so I left an email and a phone message, Friday. Monday, I spoke with a customer service representative named Ben, who apologized and expedited my exchange, which I received that Friday. In my opinion, York should put their barbells in some kind of box, instead of only wrapping them in plastic, although my exchange wasn't damaged. All's well that ends well! B4t read more

From the looks of it this business was run quite well before the pandemic. But since March it has been a disaster. After checking the website daily to see when orders would be accepted I was excited when they announced that orders could be submitted via email. I typed a very detailed message describing the items I wanted to purchase including SKU numbers and sent it on a Saturday. The website said they were receiving a heavy volume of orders and there could be a delay of a day or two before they would respond. After two weeks of not hearing anything from them I sent a follow up email inquiring about the status of my request. I also tried calling several times and nobody ever answered. Another two weeks went by and I still didn't hear anything. On June 15th I drove to the retail store and arrived at 9 AM to find a row of cars on the side of the heavily traveled narrow road. There were approximately 12-15 customers milling around at the gate so I joined them hoping to find out what was happening. At about 10 minutes after 9 some employees came out and told the group that technically they weren't planning on opening again until Wednesday the 17th (news they apparently only shared on Facebook) but they would allow the customers who were there at that time to come into the parking lot 10 vehicles at a time. I was number 14 in line. They didn't have anyone directing traffic so one of the customers took charge and did her best to organize the chaotic scene. After the first group of vehicles was admitted to the parking lot we waited on the side of the road as large commercial vehicles tried to make their way down the two lane street, sometimes coming within inches of bumpers and side mirrors. After an hour of waiting and only moving forward two car lengths I finally had to leave. As I was driving away I counted 8 cars in front of me meaning only 5 cars had been allowed into the parking lot in the hour I sat there. From the failure to respond to emails and phone calls to the complete lack of control at their retail store I am fed up with this company. York manufactures and sells a great product but after this experience I will buy my equipment from ANYONE else before I ever spend a dime on anything from them. read more

FAST service -- weights that I couldn't find anywhere near Baltimore! I've been looking for 60 lb rubber coated hex dumbbells for about 6 weeks. I called a bunch of different stores near my home -- Dick's, Modell's, Play it Again Sports, etc., and no one had any. Then, it hit me! I only live about an hour from York -- so I went on a road trip and had a great experience. The store is located right off of I-83, so it's easy to find with Google Maps. The gentleman in the retail sales office (on the left driveway as you enter the York warehouse area) was efficient, friendly, and helped me with my purchase within 5 minutes. I then picked up my weights just around the corner at their warehouse, and they wheeled them to me with a dolly for loading. Thanks, York!! If I ever need more weight, I will be back. read more

I got tired of waiting for gyms to re-open, so I decided to order my own equipment. I ordered the 5-50 LB rubber hex dumbbells set from York. I received it in about a week. It was packaged well, and arrived undamaged in a wooden crate. Each dumbbell was individually boxed inside of the crate. Everything was undamaged, and in perfect brand-new condition. I picked up an awesome work out shirt with the vintage York Barbell logo on it and pretty much live in the thing it's so comfortable. A great added bonus to a visit is the Weightlifting Hall of Fame that covers the history of Olympic Weight Lifting, Bob Hoffman (the father of weight lifting) and the history of Strong Man competitions. read more

I have been passing the rotating York Barbell man on I-83 for several decades. Recently I'd stopped at the Emigsville exit for a near-brush with a travel scam operation and passed the York Barbell Company on the way there. Since I've been using York equipment since 1959, I decided to stop in and see the factory and store, since I've recently begun weight training again and have a very busy schedule. I might need to work out at home. I reasoned that getting a good price on prime equipment at the source factory outlet might be a good way to go. I was amazed at the range of product and the clean design of the store and product design. No "Jock city" here -- just an excellent retail environment in which to purchase exercise equipment, which I did. Even had a "York Barbell Club" water bottle available (for a $5 donation to Wounded Warriors, a cause I greatly support). The man behind the counter was most helpful and knowledgeable. I'll go back. I'm happy to note that the gym I use has a good supply of York weights and equipment. Back to pumping iron. read more

After spending time on the net looking for gym equipment, I finally stopped by the YBO to check it out. Now it doesn't carry every item they sell, but it's well stocked with weights, bars and attachments, which I was in the market for. Save yourself the headache of buying something online only to find out the weld or quality is below your expectations. The outlet store gives you plenty of options for weights and equipment that is top notch quality. I will be visiting there once again when I need another piece of equipment for my gym. read more
