As I had expected, it failed smog, and despite my best efforts to get the cat hot and then immediately testing it, I couldn't get it to pass smog. So I looked around for a certified smog repair shop, I found York Auto Care and saw they had good reviews. When I spoke with them on the phone and then in the shop, I got a sense of good communication and professionalism. Let me tell you, there are shops that do good work, but don't have an organized office; and maybe your phone number gets lost and nobody ever gets back to you when they say they will. And so you have to ride the 4 bus across town through Hollywood just to hear "something came up, we'll get it done by tomorrow" 2 times in a row. That doesn't happen at York Auto Care. They kept me in the loop and gave an accurate timeline. They got the job done in one shot, and gave me a nice detailed write up on their diagnostic process and labor. A proper diagnosis requires attention, and has often been a sticking point in my experience, costing extra time and money; so if I find a shop that can do that, I'll keep coming back. read more

Seems like another dishonest auto shop. They seemed like nice guys, closer to my new house, so I decided not drive to my old trusted shop. The prices seemed high for the smallish jobs they did, but I was busy and let them do it (they seemed to do a decent job even if it eas expensive. Then they tried to upsell me on an over $1000 brake job (with scare tactics, you only have 4mm left on the pads and I told them no. There were no warning lights or sensor sound. I also remembered I had done the rear pads recently. They tried to upsell me on an oil system flush too. I drove back to my old honest mechanic farther away and he told me as suspected they didn't need to be changed. I'll never go back read more

So far so good with the work they did. Engine light has been cleared and smog has passed. Just wish they would have I guess dumbed down the terminology when telling me what was wrong. I had advised that I knew I needed work done and was more than happy to pay the $250 for the test. One ran I asked if the issue was a sensor and was told they were not sure and there was no way to test the sensor. Just to find out that is what they ended up TESTING and fixing for another $350... oh and a relay that is also accessible. I could have done that and saved that money to then use for the other $1800 service they said my car urgently needs. Keep in mind the sensor was accessible so not like I was trying to do the impossible. A bit upsetting but I guess I should have been more firm and asked more questions. read more

I originally leaned towards taking my car in for an oil change and smog test because York Auto Care was conveniently located. However, after the Yelp and Google Reviews sang their praises, I was sure this was where I'd take my car. From the moment I called them on the phone, they were courteous and clear about what they could do for me and how long it would take. After I arrived, I was taken care of quickly and given clear guidance as what to expect and the exact price I could expect to pay. The work took less time than actually quoted, and when I went to pick it up, one of their employees noticed that I had a nail in my tire. (which is no surprise as both my neighbor and I have recently had new roofs put on our houses). They stopped me from driving out and did a diagnosis of the tire. Ultimately the tire was fine, but I appreciate the careful attention to their customer's cars. And finally, they like most companies analyze your car for any other issues. I was presented with a couple of things (tire wear/break pad wear) I could fix, but at no time did I feel pressured or made to feel like I would be up a creek without doing them. Friday at 10am, I brought my car in to be serviced. They ran a full diagnostics test and emailed me the results, complete with photos. There were a number of things that clearly needed to be dealt with, including getting a new set of tires. This was not welcome news, since I was planning on driving friends to Palm Springs that evening and they didn't have my tires in stock. Heno generously offered to drive across town to pick up the new tires and promised that my car would be road worthy by that evening. I would not recommend going here. Though the service was friendly, the mechanic flat out lied to my face about what I needed. My windshield wipers stopped working, and I took it in to have them look. I asked for them to specifically check the fuses, and they told me that was not the issue, and that they needed to do a electrical diagnostic for $90, plus parts and labor once they fixed it. So i took the car and decided to try and fix it myself. Turns out the fuse was completely missing. $4 fix. They tried to scam me. Don't trust them! read more

I don't know about the mechanic, people say he's pretty good but as a gas station they are rude to women. I don't think they know they're doing it they just don't have any innate respect. I've been coming here for years because the closest gas station to my house and everywhere else in this neighborhood I'm friends with the people whose stores I have been frequenting over time. But these guys are cold and dismissive, always look annoyed and never make me feel good to actually part with my money, especially when they yell at me to straighten out my bills. As I said this place is super convenient for me, but you really would think that they would be more friendly to somebody that has been coming to them for so long. Never ever a hello or good morning, or how are you today .... nothing. Also you have to pay everything inside, there's no credit cards at the pump. I have been bringing my neon srt4 here for 6 years now and have always been happy with the work they do, I haven't had a DTC in about 4 years. I install a lot of aftermarket stuff like wideband gauges, clutches, blow off valves, etc... and they have never done an install that I had to go back because it wasn't done right. I'm pretty picky about how my car runs and I trust Heno and Alfred. They have done valve cover gasket, timing belt and tensioners, transmission/clutch(shifts perfect and if you know srt4's 3rd gear likes to pop out and I haven't had problems since they did my transmission 6 years ago), etc... They also work efficiently and most of the time they have the car ready within the same day. On my 1931 Rolls royce, I had a jeep 2000 engine and transmission in there and from the first day that we put the new engine and transmission, I was not able to drive it with automatic transmission and I had to shift manually on a automatic transmission, I did show it to bunch of mechanics and everybody was saying, it needs a new transmission, I went to Heno in York auto care, after 5 to 10 minutes checking, he fixed it with one wire connection, this is what I call Mecanic. He is honest, professional, polite and reliable and has extreme knowledge of auto mecanic. He gives you all the information you need and makes sure that you have been taken care when you take any car to his shop. It has been many years since I received such great customer service as York Car Care offered. We chose them simply because they are in our neighborhood, and what good fortune that is. They were concerned that the towing service had not arrived after several hours and sent their mechanic to check on the problem after the car could not be jumped. Consequently they were prepared when the car finally arrived. First they asked me to check if it is still covered by warranty as they did not want to charge me if the warranty was still in effect. It was not. They were super methodical and checked all the systems, replaced the battery and recommended work that would need to be done in the near future.
