I walked in on a weekday and was given a spot immediately. Their store is very spacious with lockers for your personal items and they have a reclining chair for the hair washing station so it's not an ab workout to get on/off! Service and attentiveness is amazing here. Here comes the haircut part. I have really thick hair so even when I go for a trim, the hair cut can take almost an hour. My hairdresser was AJ - I told him what I wanted (2-3 inches trim) and he said he was only going to cut layers in the front and leave the back as is given how thick my hair is, it'll be too frizzy if he layers Sure. He was done with my haircut in 20 minutes, and as I got up to check I noticed multiple hair sticking out in odd places. He sat me down and went off snipping those off. I take off the apron and towel and recheck - there's still uneven areas, so he fixed it while I was standing. While he was "layering" the front of my hair, I told him I like my hair part on my left side. He said "you will have more volume if you switch parts to your right side" and proceeds to cut my hair with my hair parted on the right. I've never had my hair "layered" like this but the ENTIRE front section of my hair looks like it was just chopped off in a straight line (see picture) without a gradual shift in lengths. This review's saving grace is he did say if I had a problem with my haircut I can always come back and get it fixed. But unfortunately I don't have the time to go back and also not sure how they can fix this when it's already that short. So 5 stars for service and the rocket ship of a hair wash station, but hair cut was very much below my expectations for a $70 price tag.

Afterwards Leo gave me a blow-out that had my husband marveling at how lovely I looked (when he hasn't said a damn word about my appearance for maybe a year!). I'm 53 and am losing my hair from thyroid disease when I had very thick hair as a younger woman. I know I shouldn't feel ashamed but I do whenever I get my hair done at a salon. Leo and Jenny were so humane about my absurd hair situation and I left feeling more attractive than I have in years! I'd grown out my roots for sooo long and yet Jenny was meticulous and made everything seamless and lovely, it was a masterful job... and for a very affordable price, I should add. She even massaged my scalp when she washed out the toner, which was such a soothing and lovely touch and totally unexpected. Leo, who is the wonderful proprietor and also a masterful stylist and colorist (given the beautiful work I saw him do while Jenny was dying my hair) asked me what I wanted at the beginning of the session. I wasn't sure I had conveyed precisely what I wanted because I don't really know the terms involved when I go in for highlighting but somehow Leo was able to interpret my needs flawlessly (I wanted natural and sun-lightened, not too bleached out and not with severe contrast... and that's exactly what Jenny gave me)! I am so grateful for this wonderful salon...and grateful for my childhood friend who recommended the place. I was visiting my mom in Rego Park and whimsically called to see if they could take a walk-in and they were able to accommodate me. I live in Brooklyn but will be schlepping to the Garden Hair Salon every time I need root touch ups and I have already posted about them on my FB wall. I'm also considering a haircut with Leo cause the other women looked amazing! GRATEFUL!

I feel cheated and not like a valued customer…read more I have been coming to this salon for a few months. I would go to Betty for blowouts and haircuts. I always felt like the salon was clean and accommodating. In addition, staff was always welcoming. I decided to take a jump to have the top of my head colored. I had bayalage about 7 months ago at a posh salon in Soho. As opposed to going back, and breaking the bank, I decided to come here. I still had the baylage from almost the middle of my head-down. The week prior, I had a haircut and blowout ($45). I had asked Betty how much it would be to do color so it would blend into the color that I had now. Management estimated ($89). The following week: I had my color done, and the color came out to $140+tax+gratuity. It was not priced as quoted. I was told later that the blowout was a separate fee. I strongly feel that a blowout should be included with this service. If a blowout is included in a haircut, it should be included with color. I left happy because my hair was blown out into curls. I could not really tell how the color was correctedI called one hour after leaving salon telling them I was unhappy. Bottom line, I wanted a refund for $89 and not the entire cost of the service. I felt this was fair after being a valued customer. After really feeling uncomfortable, and several calls, I was offered a gift card. I just wanted partial refund because unneeded to spend the means to go somewhere else. Not only did this salon make a loyal customer unhappy, they won't have my business ever again. If you want your hair done naturally, I suggest going somewhere else. What was really sad was that they never called me back after they said that they would. Go somewhere professional. I already had a canvas that was done by someone professional, and they tried to charge me for a balayage that was NOT one. DEFINITION: Balayage: a technique for highlighting the hair in which the dye is painted on in such a way as to create a graduated, natural looking effect. Thank you, but no thanks.
