We ordered omakase special dinner, 7 course and it was €135. Normally in America, the 7 course means 7 pieces of fish. However, it is like a 7 course meal so be prepared to eat if you're doing their omakase. Service is excellent, our waiter had great recommendations for us for wine that would pair well with each of our dish. recommend if you're in Munich and staying nearby the mandarin orientational. I noted the price so you know it's pricey. Dinner for 2 ended up being over €300

Nevertheless the location inside the Mandarin Oriental in Munich disappoints - I still gave three stars because the food was good but the service was lacking. I ordered a bottle of rose - it wasn't cold at all, it was actually warm when they served it. When I mentioned it to the server he said: oh you'll have to wait for it to cool on ice? Overall, the service was really slow - we had to remind them several times for our dessert. On the good side: the food was comparable to other locations, the spinach salad was really yummy and the rolls were decent. Would I go again? Not sure... they need to up their service and then I would consider going.

Sushi Sano is a great spot not that far from the Marienplatz area. Great selection of rolls and dishes. I had an assortment of rolls and sushi as well as some dishes such as gyoza and kimchi. Great place! Only complaint (not really a complaint) I would add is that the sushi rice there was just OK. Not as good as the kind in sushi spots back home in Los Angeles.

So it was my mission to find some killer sushi in Munich while I visited him in August. Let me tell yah, this place right here... is a work of art! Right from the gecko the moment you walk in, you feel the noise and ambiance of the place. You look at the decor and sitting and you know you're in for a treat. So me and him got down to business, we order a bunch of nigiri and some udon because it was a chilly day in Munich and we need the warm brothy soup they had. The Sake (lachs, salmon) was top notch and the Hamachi (yellowtail) was okay. I tried their Anago which was good and same with the Unagi. All in all this place lived up to the hype and my lil bro now has a sushi place he can call home in Munich . I know for sure I'll be back and the sushi chefs better have a whole salmon for us because they didn't think me and my lil bro could have taken down 30 pcs of salmon in one sitting.

First thing they ask me before I even sat down was if I'm from China? I was t sure. I thought she meant if I spoke Chinese and so I said I speak mandarin and she kept asking China. After five time saying no and she still asks me, I declared I am not from china. And then she asked me in English where I'm from. I said California. We ordered beef udon, the Hana special, and some other sushi sashimi mix. Hana special had a few salmon and tuna nigiri, some tuna and salmon roll, and salmon and tuna sashimi. When I tasted one price of tuna, it was slightly rancid. I spit it out right away. I didn't complain because when they brought out the beef udon, there was no beef - I complained and she proceeds to tell me that there is beef when I dug in and searched for any sign of meat but saw none and showed her, she still insists that it was gyu udon... I'm like ok, no point complaining. Then the bill came and it was the wrong bill. I pointed it out and she immediately said this was my bill without even looking at the bill. My husband had to take over and point out everything we did not order and that's when she looked and said oh ya, it's for the wrong table. Seriously?! Because we have had such a terrible experience I had to fight for the vegetable udon and not beef udon that was given to us. She rolled her eyes at me!!! But in the end took 3 euros off. The sushi chef sensed the tension and offered my kids four lollipops which we did not take with us. Worst ever sushi experience. They were not Japanese. I can forgive the service if the food were good but it wasn't. I have myself to blame though because I broke my own rule of ordering raw fish at a restaurant that I can't trust. Naturally I didn't not tip.

We were with a party of three and ordered different 'fixed plates' and all of them came with miso soup. The gyoza was nice, the dough was not too thick, slightly translucent even. I'm used to thicker dough and slightly crispy, but I think this 'thin dough' version is actually nicer. I have hardly ever been to a restaurant where the photos shown in the menu were actually good, and never where the food that was served really looked like what was shown in the picture. This was the first time that the photos looked good AND the food looked like the photos. We ordered an average of slightly more than 2 dishes each (miso soup not included) and I felt full after diner. I would say that the portion size of the fixed plates is good enough. As far as taste is concerned no complaints either. Of the three Shoya's I've been to, this would be the one worth a return visit. If you have read my review for one of the all you can eat sushi places in Amsterdam, you might know that a sushi/Japanese restaurant will score major points if the nori (the dried seaweed that goes around the rolls) is ultra fresh and crispy. Unfortunately this was not the case with the nori in our dishes today. Nori absorbs moisture like a sponge even by just being exposed to air, so you can imagine what happens when wrapping it around other foodstuffs. So this was not so much a disappointment, but rather an observation. No points subtracted, but no bonus star (-;
