Here is an insider tip for all of you moving to the Clearview/Cathcart area of Snohomish...GO HERE!…read moreI will begin by saying their customer service is AMAZING! We love this place! It is a perfect mingling of "Americana" and "Pretty Dang Cool"! Here are a few reasons why I say this: Nick, the owner, and his beautiful wife, always welcome everyone into their store with a genuine smile! They also work their "bottoms' off without ever whining about it! Having owned and operated a C-Store myself, I do know of what I am saying! While the store is delightfully, authentically old, it is filled with so many groovy items! Their prices are FAIR! They don't get the price discounts of Safeway or what-have-you, but they do their best to keep the prices reasonable! Their wine selection is ever-changing and GOOD! Their selection of groovy beers is apparently pretty terrific! I am allergic to hops but you cannot help but overhear. Speaking of, if you are like me and bought your beloved a kegerator over the pandemic, this is THE PLACE to get a refill! Nick is fair and fast! He is accurate and honest! Love that!!! I have to mention... they carry these frozen fruit pies...OH MY GOSH! No, really! I am kind of a pie/cake snob...it's not pretty but it is the truth...THESE ARE SO GOOD!!! And "oh, hello, super groovy ice cream to go with it!" Thank you!!! Yes, they also carry all the "stuff" you might need in a jiffy, from TP to (really good) dairy products. Welcome to the neighborhood! I promise you will love this place!

They stock a little bit of most everything that you'd want and need, a few unique things as well, and have the coldest beer in Cathcart! Parking and navigating the insane intersection that the store is located at is hell during rush hour, but that's not the fault of the store.

At first the clerk seemed helpful and friendly , giving us his suggestions on the ben and Jerry's flavors and stated he had only tried the vanilla and liked it. So we paid and left. My friend was already eating his amd I tried it and was very surprised how good it was ( normally I don't like vanilla plain ) so I was excited to try the one I had purchased. When I opened it it looked a little freezer burnt but I still tried it , hoping it was just the top . It wasn't. The entire half gallon appeared to have melted and been re frozen. We both agreed after a few small bites that I should go back and exchange it for a different flavor. It was less than 5 mins that I walked back in the store and the same clerk that was had so much to say about ice cream told me that he didn't know know what I meant when I described how it tasted because "he doesn't eat to much ice cream" . And that his boss told him that if someone brings something back that is opened that he couldn't take it back and said "it's really my boss saying no , not me". I didn't even want a refund, I just wanted to exchange it for something that was the quality I expected, and that makes me wonder, if I hadn't taken a bite and brought it back, was he just going to put it back in the freezer for the next customer to waste their money on and hope that they wouldn't notice till later on and not want to take the time to return it? I know it's just ice-cream, but I barely have money to spend on essential things that I need , so spending ten dollars on something that I just had to throw in the trash was really upsetting and I feel like he should have let me exchange it. I don't believe that is really the poilicy, because it doesn't make any sense. Also. On a side note, I asked him if I bought 2 packs of cigarettes if it would be cheaper, he replied, yes, you sace$2.50 on 2 . One pack ca n e to $10.77, so how am I saving $2.50 when he told me that two packs were a little over $23? Seems like they are just trying to rip people off because they know most of us are to busy to dbl check the prices.

I guess they recently remodeled, we tried a few times before we managed to catch them open and ready for business. Plenty of easy parking out front. Not too hot inside on a warm day. There were some samosas for sale on the counter. It has a separate seating area and some things for grocery type things and household items for sale around the edges. On the day we visited we were the only diners, but lots of people came in to use the store part. We both ordered the vegetarian combo. It was large and filling. It came with a beet section, which is something I have not experienced at other Ethiopian restaurants. My favorite part was a dark brownish item, but unfortunately I do not know what it is called. I also really enjoyed the salad section. I am not aware of other Ethiopian places in the area and the person behind the counter let me know that many people come from northern cities to dine here. It's nice to have this in the area. I know many people that are curious about Ethiopian food and it is nice to have a place closer to take them to experience it. Glad to have found this hidden gem.

This parking lot has had tons of interesting food options over the years, and still does. Alem heavily diversifies the area with the first African I can remember in this neighborhood, and still the only Ethiopian I can think of for miles and miles. Parking's free, and you walk in maybe thinking it's still only a store--look to the left, and there's now a casual, low-key dining area cordoned off with chest-high screens. 6 tables. Last night it was groups of friends, all clearly revisiting the food of the old country. Everybody had the big combo platter in front of them same as every other Ethiopian place you've ever been. One table called for coffee, and it came out smelling amazing in a gorgeous service set. They sat chatting and laughing until we left, even though they had already finished eating when we arrived. I love the friendly hang vibe here. The food is solid. All your familiar favorites--stewed meats, veg, chicken leg, hard-boiled egg, white cheese. No random iceberg-mix salad here, though, which is cool. The spicy injera appetizer, served cold, really hit the spot. I'd love more seasonings in the food, and more tartness in the injera. And I wouldn't mind things coming to the table hotter, either. It's rare to find flavors on the milder side like this at an Ethiopian place. But we demolished a huge platter of food and it was easy to enjoy. The market has all kinds of stuff--weaving, spices, traditional clothes, just a huge variety of things like a mini bazaar. The people here are so warm and friendly, just the nicest and kindest. I'm so happy to have Ethiopian near me.
