My body, mind, and soul had been in dire need of a rest and reset after having a sick infant and partner since Thanksgiving. I was able to make an appointment here for my Groupon easily on Monday. My therapist greeted me and I wasn't expecting anything fantastic because I judged a book by its cover. She was a small, soft-spoken women who asked what type of massage I'd like and what brought me in, I told her I preferred firm and deep massages and that the majority of my pain in resting in my neck, shoulders, and back. She was amazing. I always appreciate a therapist that listens, but also asks questions. I love a good glute massage as well and it was glorious. After the massage, I did the soak. They had me take a shower before floating to help get all of the oil off of my body. I loved the smell of the products in the shower. After my float, I showered again. I'd advise planning a little longer than you expect so you can shower afterwards and enjoy yourself, taking in the relaxation. I almost wanted them to offer me a pillow and blanket for a nap before going out into the world. I'll definitely be back.

I feel asleep several times. She was gentle but at the same time deep enough to help me with my muscle soreness. The floating experience was very interesting. The owner explained to us in detail about what to do and how to enjoy the experience at the fullest. He seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. I hope to come back for more!

"Interesting "…read more seemed ideal. Retreat center. Soaking pools. Meals. Ok to join in on zen practice. Following a disappointing stay, we did some research and found out about the history of sexual abuses by the former guru. says nothing on the website. After learning that, how odd to have a book in the room called "Extraordinary Sex". and then to have a sliding glass door to the porch, that didn't fully close or lock. Felt odd. the heating system they bragged about by phone, geothermal, is so old and had so much air in the pipes that it was extremely loud and those of us in two separate rooms could NOT sleep. they would not give details about the meals at the retreat center, although the website mentions them. there was a meal the night we were there. Several people, none wearing latex or nitrile gloves, all cutting and mixing raw vegetables, which would be served, uncooked. no wonder they hesitated to discuss meals. We did not partake. The person who booked us, and offered that we could join in for meditation, had no knowledge that the days we booked were the staff's and volunteers' days off of practice. So no zen practice at the zen center. The next night we stayed at an AirBNB which is attached to a high-end restaurant. The restaurant wasn't open but we learned that the abbess of the retreat center had eaten there during the week prior. Nice place, prixe fixe at $95 per plate. Maybe there's another story to that, but don't zen practitioners follow a life of simplicity? The soaking pools are FULL of algae. Slippery and nowhere to sit on a clean rock. People in our party all got swimmers itch, it is carried by a parasite commonly found in ducks. Guess what domesticated waterfowl are kept in a pen uphill of the soaking pools? Enjoy your stay!

I've never done a sound bath and was skeptical but optimistic . This experience rivaled any self care , spirtual experience I've had. Do not be fooled by the strip mall facade. There were two other customers, we were given comfortable placements casually relaxing on floor mats, I brought my own blanket and pillow. The singing bowls and gongs in a live performance by a skilled musician and interesting person, Mr. Douglas Cardwell, vibrated softly through my head and body as I meditated in flow for an hour. I left feeling positive without any concerns troubling me and outside I felt that I saw brighter colors with wider, more open vision. That night, I slept more soundly than ever, not waking once all night! I overslept a morning meet up with a friend, something I've never done before, I awoke when she rang my doorbell. I feel deeply rested and much calmer and now, I've been telling all my friends that sound baths are really something. I believe it stimulates the brain and that's a very helpful thing for mental and physical well-being.

I first saw Mingtong Gu at Spirit Rock meditation center in Woodacre. I was desperately seeking a way to manage a disorder I have that causes unexpected and unpredictable vertigo spells and was reaching the end of my rope. As I was sitting waiting for the workshop to begin, Mingtong appeared next to me and flashed me a bright, genuine smile. I found it hard to believe this was the "grand master", but as he took the stage and began to speak, I saw that in fact he was all he had been described to be and more. I was blown away, not so much by the practice, but by Mingtong's presence, his sense of humor, his joy, his patience, and an inner beauty that is infectious. His wife Lingling is equally gifted, and together they have brought a wonderfully powerful healing practice to the Bay Area and beyond. After my two day workshop at Spirit Rock, I signed up for a 12 day retreat in Santa Rosa. I had never been on a retreat before and have never been serious about any practice. I'm basically a slug and would rather watch Real Housewives of New Jersey than dedicate myself to a regular practice of anything. Yet, I was infected by the enthusiasm that Mingtong brings to his teachings. I have made a commitment to doing 3 hours of practice every day, but find myself doing more, as practice involves not only physical exercise, but also visualizations, sound healing, and listening to CDs of Mingtong and Lingling. I feel happier and more grounded than I have ever felt in my life. I have not had a vertigo attack in two weeks and am confident that through this practice I will find total health and wholeness. If you are dealing with a terminal or incurable illness, I highly recommend signing up for one of Mingtong's intensive retreats where you will find a practice and a community of support that will change your life. However, even if you feel you are healthy, I still recommend doing one of his retreats. You will find wisdom and healing and access to an unlimited source of energy and joy. I can only give Mingtong 5 stars because that is the maximum, but he actually deserves a Milky Way full of stars.

Other times, I don't want to stop, and I participate for over an hour, as it effects me in such a positive way. Unlike allopathic medicine which sometimes seems to focus on what's wrong, QiGong focuses on acceptance, so that one can naturally increase what is right. It incorporates sound work which releases trapped energy in organs, movement, and heart expansion. I appreciate the January Thank You Gift series for a new year, but I'm not sure I can still find all of them on Youtube. There was one in particular which was done on January 13th, in which Ming Tong does healing while one is resting. This is particularly good for one who wants to increase their energy in order to do more. Thank you so much to Mater Ming Tong Gu and the Chi Center.
