I started yoga 9 years ago, and have been going to Yogarithm for 5 years. There are different types of classes--including beginner, flow, core and a detox class held on weekends. Melissa also offers a lot of variety of retreats. There are tie-die classes where you tie-die a yoga tee after class. I've been to yoga on the beach at Kenosha (loved it!), there have been musicians who come to play during class, yoga at the art museum, at the holidays you could choose to get a meditation bead at every class and then make a bracelet at the end of the holidays. Gosh--some classes have aromatherapy. Weekends offer a rise 'n rock class where you blast out of your rut with songs from Metallica, Pink Floyd, Women of the 80s, the Beatles. It's a class I can't miss, to be honest. In the past 5 years I've torn my meniscus from falling off a water park slide, broken my left toe, sprained an ankle--and every time I get an injury I come back to yoga to get back recover. This class keeps me flexible, gives me some pretty impressive strength (which supporting your own body weight can do!) and helps me mellow out after a rough week. The few times I've had to go without yoga for a few weeks I find I am stiffer, my hip and back hurt more, my knee aches constantly (from the torn meniscus) and the aches of sitting at a desk all day come crashing in on me. If you're new to yoga, this might be a great class to check out. It's friendly, there are loaner mats you can get, classes vary and you can find one just your speed, there are classes in the day, evenings and on weekends, and as mention by another poster--Aveda tea. Melissa isn't afraid to try something new--the last few months she's had a foam roller class that is challenging and effective. Something new is always being added.Angela, another yoga instructor, brings a very mindful and meditative approach to her classes, which makes it a must-go for me when I need to stretch, build some muscle and then chill the f-out! Ah--forgot to also mention that Melissa offers private instruction, so if you're feeling a bit shy, or have particular issues you want to work on, then you can take a one-on-one class or get together a few of your friends. read more

Melissa was my first Yoga instructor and she has been hands down the best. I started going to Yogarithm back when I was attending college in Kenosha (2010). I was hesitant at first, as I did not know how I would like it. The first time I came into this studio (in the basement level of a salon), they had Aveda licorice mint tea hot and ready. The tea is delish, and automatically warmed and relaxed you. Melissa's style is inviting, but challenges you. You will never have the same sequence twice, she always mixes her routines up- which I love as every day after, I would be sore! Since graduating, I had to leave Yogarithm. I now live in Chicago and have been to many studios in the north side and the South loop, no other instructor can even come close to Melissa. Big plus: the price is very reasonable (get monthly unlimited!) a quarter of what I pay in the city. The instructor listens to her students, provides a variety, and is very pleasant! Melissa is a very sweet, kindhearted person. She's genuinely interested in remembering names, talking before/after class, and helping individuals troubleshoot poses. I consider myself intermediate. I'm capable of doing some difficult poses, but I'm not capable of a full scorpion or birds of prey yet (it's the hammies!). With this in mind, Melissa's classes are great for endurance if you push yourself to linger in poses while everyone takes a break. I used to belong to a yoga studio in St. Louis and one thing I miss is the time and breath work between poses. At times, Melissa will rush through the poses, which is fine for a more Pilates meets yoga practice, but part of a challenging practice is holding downward dog for five long breaths. The classes repeat a lot of the same poses, which is nice because you practice them so much that you begin to become more flexible in those muscle groups; however, taking requests for muscle groups was a large part of my previous yoga practice and I also miss that. Some days I would request hamstring poses or someone would request shoulder/chest openers. It was nice to be pushed outside my comfort zone. I think this studio is perfect for beginners and a great workout for intermediate practitioners. If you're advanced and craving inversions or holds, I would suggest going to Strala where you can inject your own poses intermittently throughout the class. Caveat: my St. Louis studio was a hardcore practice with Sanskrit spoken for the poses. The only classes that didn't make me feel like I was pushing myself beyond limits was yin yoga. With Melissa, you'll never feel like you can't keep up. read more

I bought a groupon and enjoyed the classes/instructor so much that I decided to start doing yoga there unlimited. The space is clean, the instructor top notch, and on top of it all the price is reasonable. read more

This place is inspirational! I have been going to Yogarithm for about 2 and a half years now and it will always be my favorite yoga studio. I started yoga end of my freshman year of college because I was extremely stressed and was lacking a major sense of purpose. My dad who had been going to Yogarithm for years recommended I try a class. I was hesitant because I had only done one yoga class before and it was a bad experience. I went to a class with Melissa and she made me feel so welcome and the class changed my life. I immediately got an unlimited month membership and went as much as I could. I was feeling so great and loving every day more because of where those classes put my mind. After about a year I decided to go get certified as a teacher in Milwaukee with an amazing school recommendation from Melissa. She became my mentor in a sense and helped me through my training. YOGArithm Studios is GREAT. I had never taken a formal yoga class before I came here but was glad to see the first class is free to see if it is for you. Your first month you can have unlimited yoga for only $25! After that it is only $50 a month which is just great for people on a budget that still would like to enjoy yoga on top of their gym membership or even just exclusive of it without paying $100 or more a month. Onto Melissa, the owner and primary instructor. Melissa is so sweet, and an excellent teacher. I like occasional correction if I am blatantly doing something wrong, but she is not one to invade your space and fix you. Her voice is calming and she always mixes up classes. I do yoga to calm but mostly to get a great workout, and her power core and vinyasa flow classes will make you sweat. LOVE IT. Something that is also important to me is not feeling like the studio is competitive. This is a totally non-competitive and positive environment. You are encouraged to push yourself, not hold poses longer or better than others. This studio is so very affordable, but even if I wanted to splurge more and had the extra cash, I would most definitely stay here. She runs a great studio and works very hard. :) TRY IT! read more
