The RecPlex is located on lovely Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie. If you're here for games during the summertime take a break and walk around the lake on the paved trail (2.3 miles). The RecPlex has 8 courts, which are very nice--wood floors and netting between courts. Nice facilities. They also have a pretty standard concessions stand. Overall, recommended. read more

This is a beautiful facility... specifically the two sheets of ice for the hockey and figure skating families. The ice (according to my goalie son) is well maintained and nice to skate on. He has attended goalie training here for several summers and the programming is decent and worth a look if your player needs some extra lessons. My only complaint is that the facility staff is not friendly and welcoming. They're not mean or rude, but they seem disinterested when asked questions. Once I was on my computer at one of the tables in the front and the custodian literally scoffed at me when I mentioned that I would put my chair up after I was done. I guess he wanted to have all the chairs up before his shift ended. Even with the lack of service, we'll be back. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars because I'm so grateful it exists! It's the largest municipal recreation center in the country and it's 10 minutes from where I live and on the way to Costco. The pluses: It has a beach and a lake and 3 Olympic size swimming pools, a great big gym with all the equipment gyms need to have, excellent personal training staff, a generally friendly low-key vibe, a reasonable parking lot. The hot tub (for ages 18+) in the pool area is hot and has great jets. There's a sauna in the locker room. It's only $300 for 6 months for seniors. To me, that's a bargain, I'm not old enough for Medicare yet, but I was told that the gym benefits work here as well. The negatives: it has either terrible or not enough maintenance staff & it's not well-managed. The billing system is disorganized. The locker room is like a high school locker room -- definitely not upscale gym-ish. When things break it takes days or weeks or longer to fix them. There were months this past year when they couldn't get the temperature of the showers regulated. There's paint peeling in the pool area and they close in the winter for a week to supposedly take care of all that and ... not so much. read more

Be very careful before signing a membership contract with this institution - if you have zero chance of you ever leaving the area of Pleasant Prairie then fine , but if you have to relocate ( eg due to a job change) and its less than 50 miles , they will throw the contact at you as their standard response - to put this in perspective - they expect you to drive 100 miles to use their facility for eg 1 hour - how can that be reasonable - at the end of the day their contract is designed to trap you. Nice clean location for hockey. Stands are in the upper deck and can overlook foe rinks. Enter the rink from the back of the building the front is the pool. They have concession stand but it closed around 7pm on the Saturday I was there. No beer. Pro stop for hockey gear had everything you need. read more

I found out about this place, because I loved the paved path around Lake Andrea for walking, rollerblading, biking. I started off with a trial to see if I would like this gym, and it has some thing for everyone. I'm not the person who enjoys basketball, a traditional track, or a pool, but they are available for those who want it. What I am very satisfied with is the portion that is upstairs that is full of multiple Olympic lifting racks, lots of free weights, lots of cardiovascular equipment, including assault brand, lots of mirrors and space to do your own workouts, and the amenities are always clean. The staff is also very friendly and able to answer any questions that you might have about the prices which are very reasonable, and they have packages available depending on your length of commitment that you're wanting. If you are not a member, there is even street parking or parking lot across the street that is very easily accessible. read more

High prices and fees, even for seniors. The ice is nice if you skate, and the pool/ plunge is nice if you swim. For day-to-day exercise, strength training, and walking/ running, try other opportunities. My take: In warm weather, walk/run the park, especially around Lake Andrea. It is free. In really cold weather, get a Sam's or Costco membership, and walk the warehouse. As long as you aren't rude or run a cart into people, both Sam's and Costco welcome you. Get some home weights, or find a local cheapie gym for equipment. With what Rec Plex charges, you should have money left over after you get the weight set or membership at a for-profit gym. If you're a senior with a Medicare Advantage plan, check out Silver Sneakers offerings at Snap Fitness, Planet Fitness, and Anytime Fitness. Your insurance card is your ticket to cardio equipment, weight training and equipment, Zumba and other classes, with negligible fees for a card deposit and the like. It's certainly cheaper than Rec Plex, and the people are a lot nicer. read more

This place has really declined over the past year. They continue to add events and offerings for non members in an attempt to increase profits, but they have made it more and more difficult for actual members to use the facilities. They've decreased the size of childcare for workouts even though they were already at max capacity and often turned people away. They have so many birthday parties on the weekends there are literally hundreds of people using the pool that are not members. There was just an article in the paper about how dangerously toxic the water was from too many people and not enough cleaning/chlorine. We've been members for 4 years but are ready to leave. When we joined it was the best thing! But now it's worse than the Y sadly. Dirty, trashy, unusable. read more

My family member has been playing on the vipers hockey team since early age. I just have to point out that this year their coach is totally inappropriate, screaming and yelling at the children, playing sexually disturbing music in the locker room, and playing obvious favorites. Coach Sweeney should be at the least disciplined or even fired. Coaching is meant to be a teaching, encouraging position with these younger players. My how things have changed. Since covid, the fitness center is packed with teens who come in packs of 3 to 8, take tons of equipment, then hang out and giggle together for 30 minutes making it impossible for anyone else to use the equipment. After 15+ years of being a happy RecPlex member, overcrowding and long wait times forced me to end my membership and take my business elsewhere. A shame, I used to love this place. I now get a good workout in for a fraction of the price at Snap Fitness. read more

I have been a member for my years. The past few years it seem that the paying members are second fiddle to all of the non-member events they hold at the Plex. We have been complaining about cold water in the showers for 9 months now and the only thing they say is "we working on it." If they were truly working on it, it would have been fixed a long time ago. Currently the mens showers for closed for repairs ( not the water), new tile etc. , so I went to the family locker room to shower and the shower would not turn on. Workout equipment can be down for repairs for months at a time. The professional trainers there are great, but I think they are getting tired of hearing member complain about repairs. read more

The most unprofessional people I have had to deal with. This facility is old and tired. Every time I go there there is a slew of people that do not have memberships. So when I try to cancel my membership that's where it got fun! I filled out and followed all the protocols. I got no response back until I emailed them threatening to call my bank. They will dispute the chargebacks with lies. Do not give your money to the center do not go to the center. At first everything will seem nice and dandy but just wait for a few months down. Not to mention the daycare center! They have children taking care of your kids and they are bothered every single time you put your kids in the daycare. The days they are meant to work and be open at the daycare they close or they close down an hour early. It's a mess and super unprofessional. read more

At this place for a youth baseball tournament hosted by GameDay and the facilities are awful trash over flowing in trash cans and the bathrooms! This is a great place for any of your recreational activities. Very large venue with many options. I specifically go here for its large lap pool. It is a great place to swim. Very big pool, clean deck, up to date blocks and lane lines. Overall a great place to swim, whether it's just to get in a good lap swim for the day, or for you teams swim meet. read more

Usually there late at night for hockey so I can really say what it's like during the day but it's a great place for hockey and hanging out watching. Facilities are clean (locker rooms for hockey have that Natty light and sweat smell) but that's all part of the experience. I love the gym and the swimming pool, where I take my kids to. I love that the membership gives access to the Andrea Lake beach. Great for skiing in open hours. Some equipment and lockers break and they are not fixed for a long time. Summer camp was a disaster two years in the row - understaffed, they let kids bully other kids, huge confusion every morning where the kids are going to be. So, a mixed bag. read more

Rec Plex has a great facility and has a lot to offer for sports, exercise, skating, and more. I love their indoor water park. Their daycare leaves a lot to be desired. The staff needs more training! The programs lack parent communication. It doesn't seem like the staff communicate with each other either. There isn't consistency in routine or staffing and I had some major safety issues. If you are looking for a place to work out, Rec Plex is great. If you want good childcare or camps, look elsewhere. read more

I have been a member for 10+years along with my wife and two daughters. We pay over $100 a month and also purchased two parking passes. One for me and I'm one for my wife. I was recently in a car accident ( other person's fault). My car was totaled. I peeled the parking pass off the windshield but it does not work. I brought it in to get a replacement. I explained what happened which they did not care about at all. I just got the typical Recplex front desk "your waiting my time" attitude. I spoke to three people and not on said anything about the accident like "are you ok". They would not replace my parking pass. They wanted me to pay for it AGAIN. This shows how much they don't care about their members and especially longtime loyal members. read more

The complex is very nice with a lot of activities. Non-member parking is a bit of a inconvenience, It seems as if their priorities are with their paying members, I visited the facility with intention of signing my son up for one of their programs and possible membership. While there i was unable to get the specific information I needed about fees, registration and program specifics. After the visit, talking with two separate people there on that day, follow up website visits, phone calls and several emails over three weeks I still have not been able to get any information. I have yet to hear from anyone. I am sure it is no loss to them but I have found another program for my son. I will not entertain the idea of visiting them for anything anytime soon and I will not recommend them. read more

Giving 3 stars only because the facility can handle the event inside... parking, however.... is AWFUL! I think we parked back in Illinois! And the location of the entrance vs where you pay... not conducive to the size of the crowd here for the tournament! If I get stuck coming back for an event, I really don't have a choice, but I am glad this isn't some place I have to come with regularity. read more

I took a boy I babysit here for a basketball tournament over the weekend. The parking lot is extremely confusing as you need to have a badge to park in their actual lot. After a few minutes I located a drop off road as well as a park and ride that was nearby. It cost $7 to get in which seemed a little pricey to me, but I am out of touch with what tournaments cost. They had a concession stand with decent options. The kids checking in for the tournament weren't extremely friendly and there is no map of which court is which located in the gym. They complex itself seems very clean and well kept. read more

The facility is pretty cool and you got to love that little Lake Andrea "beach" and playground(s). It costs about $6 to get into the beach unless you are a member or live in the village. They have an indoor pool with lanes and an area for kids, including a water slide. Just be sure to check their open swim hours. They have a great track around the lake. The exercise area is nice and you can look over the lake as you use the treadmill/elipticals. They have an indoor track and a huge gym for basketball. The facility also has a concession stand. The only thing that I don't like about this place is the staff. I don't want to sound paranoid but I feel like I get the stink-eye every time I step foot in there. The two times I went to the front desk to purchase a membership, I had to wait a long time before anyone even acknowledge I was standing there and there was only one other person in line, and she was being helped! There were 3 or 4 people behind the desk- two were on the computer and the other(s) were just standing around. They all saw me standing there but no one said a thing! Finally someone came up to me and I was able to buy the membership. The second time I went to purchase my membership was just like the last time. read more

My son was injured today at a basketball tournament and the two representatives at the main desk were condescending and rude. This was around 11 am today (May 4th, 2019 for reference). I wish they'd implement better treatment for injured players. In addition, one of the greeters in charge of wristbands was also very rude. If my son were to ever have a tournament here again, I'd opt for him to miss it. read more

This is supposed to be the top-of-the-line fitness complex in the area and yet it completely lacks innovation. The Rec has been using Les Mills' outdated regimen of classes for years and is not evolving with the times. It's sad and frustrating. What could be great, is not. The local YMCA offers newer concepts and variety than the Rec ever strives to have which is ridiculous given the member pricing is substantially higher. I go back for the Rec's well-maintained facility but their offerings are downright embarrassing. No one else offers these classes except maybe Body Pump in some other gyms... there's a reason for that. Get with the times, Rec. You're better than this. read more

Parents beware. RecPlex offers a number of after-school and summer programs for children. Our child was with them for two years, and we worked with staff and management on his behavioral issues. So far, so good. Then RecPlex summoned us after one bad behavior episode (in which no one was harmed in any way) and expelled him on the spot. No meeting, no discussion, no "first strike," nothing. Just "get out of here and don't come back." Be very careful. If your child has any behavioral issue, any at all, RecPlex is no longer interested in working with you. They will expel your child with no warning. If you do not have backup after-school care ready, you will be in trouble. They do not care about you; they do not care about your child. This place is wonderful. The classes are great and the gym has everything you would need. I like to walk the path around the lake and the indoor path is nice as well. My three year old loves the kids area and I have always felt very comfortable dropping him off at they daycare. He also really enjoys the indoor water park. If you live in Pleasant Prairie or the surrounding area I highly recommend joining. read more

If you want to spend a ton of money this place is for you! On top of already high fees and paying for classes that aren't included in your membership, their prices just went up, again. This place is so money-hungry it's ridiculous. When "sticker only" parking was enforced in the parking lot, only one sticker was given per household. So if multiple family members have different cars, you had to buy $30 stickers out of pocket. My car was totaled last year so I called and asked if I could remove the sticker to place in my new car and was told it only sticks once. Instead of giving me a new sticker I was told I'd need to buy a new one. Can you say cheap? Street parking it is. Now they've added a new parking lot and are charging their customers to pay for it by increasing their monthly dues. The staff isn't even friendly, no one greets you when you walk in and no one smiles when you pass, so to say the increase is being used for customer service would be a lie. I actually really love the space and variety of equipment, but I'm starting to look for another gym. Hey Rec Plex, maybe you could give back to your loyal customers who aren't made of money by providing another parking lot out of pocket? Lord knows you make a killing through membership and tournaments. No, you wouldn't do that. I truly hope you start losing members over this. read more

Nice facility for swimmers but terrible for spectators there to watch. Parking is very far away despite a huge half empty lot in front reserved for "members". Bleachers are extremely cramped and uncomfortable. Not sure why, but each bench is so close together that someone's knees will extend half way into the bench in front if them. It is also not possible to walk by someone even if they stand up. The result is lots of awkward climbing over each other and balancing to avoid falls. The design makes no sense as it is pretty new and the place in general is huge. There was no need to make it this way other than poor design. They used to let you bring lawn chairs and set then up behind the bleachers, but that is no longer allowed. Again this is a nice place for swimmers but a very bad place to spend a day watching a meet. read more

I want to like this place so bad, but I cannot. I am beyond disappointed. I just moved to the area and was looking for a spot for group fitness classes. I went to the Rec Plex to check it out. I walked myself through the weight section, around the track, checked out the locker room, checked out class schedules, and group fitness rooms. The classes going on looked WAY over crowded, but I was planning on attending earlier classes, so this may not be an issue for me. If you plan to go at peak times, this could be an annoyance. If you are the type of person who likes your space, these classes are not for you. When I was finished giving myself a tour, I stopped at the front desk to ask details about signing up. When I talked to the young girl at the front reception area, she told me that I could come back the following weekend to sign up as there was a special running for new member sign up. I asked her what I needed to bring to sign up as I had just moved to the area and my driver's license was from a different state. She told me that was fine, just to bring mail containing my Pleasant Prairie address and my current ID. I returned the following weekend to sign up. There were a couple people in line so I decided to wait as I wanted to take a class later that morning. I waited in line for over an hour and a half to sign up. When I got to the front of the line and was called up, I had only my Debit Card, Drivers License, and my mail, as directed the week before. The girl who called me to her station to sign me up was rude. She was more interested in flipping her hair and talking to a boy standing at the end of the counter. She was also very inconsiderate and not at all pragmatic. I filled out all of the paperwork and she then told me that she could not sign me up using my debit card. She could only use bank routing numbers. I left my cell phone in the car as I had planned to work out, and this was the only way I could look up my bank routing info. I explained this to her, and her snotty comment was, "Well, I can't help you then". I turned around and the line was twice the size it was five minutes before I was called to her station. I refused to wait in line again, so I left and have never returned. I should have asked for a manager then, lesson learned. Since this experience I have sent an email in via their website. I detailed the issue and that was over two weeks ago. I specifically requested a follow up, and no one from the Rec Plex has contacted me. Boo Rec Plex. I wish I could love you. So sad. read more

Great for families. Decent pool, hockey rink, gym, and basketball courts. But Rude staff. If you don't mind the sweaty smell and kids running all around you, this is the gym for you! Also, if you plan on cancelling, make sure to go into before the 19th of the month or you'll have to pay for the following month if you go beyond the 19th. Only thing I liked about this place was the view from the work out area and the wonderful instructor Kim at body pump.
