Everything. Pleasant. Professional. Really nice people. Place is clean and roomy. Good coffee, too

I've had wonderful experiences in both the pilates and vinyasa classes. The temporary space is comfortable and more than adequate. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new permanent space comes together. The instructors are very experienced and accommodate a range of abilities. Highly recommended! read more

Buckle up your lululemons! Y'all gonna sweat!! I've done hot yoga before at other studios with mixed results (I accidentally fell asleep in one class). But this place is 5/5 beyond yoga pants! It's a super welcoming and comfortable studio and the flow was AMAZING. The instructor was so calm and welcoming that my interior dialogue went "wow, this is really relaxing... where did all this sweat come from?" For North Portlanders like myself, it's a bit of a trek. That said, it's well worth it! One of the best yoga sessions I've ever had :) read more

Booked a Warm Slow Flow and Myofascial Release class and didn't really know what to expect. Parking was extremely hard to find and I had to go a couple blocks to find a spot as a result I barely made it to the beginning of the class. The instructor was very helpful in helping me setup and she even bought all my equipment for me while I found a spot .The studio is on sort of a two floor setup where the upper floor is slightly more hot . I was able to hear all the instructions very clearly even though I was on the top floor . The use of balls , foam roller and blocks was really good and helped me ease out so much of my muscle stress. After the class the instructor spent some time talking and guiding me on what kind of flows would work best for me . I really appreciate how personable and approachable they were . I would definitely go back and recommend them to anyone who is closer to the area. My biggest challenge was the traffic and parking both of which I am sure are issues I cant solve unless I take a weekend class. read more

Small, but cozy and well-kept studio. I love the art installation overhead so when we are doing abs or shavasana, there's a really lovely view. Instructor Christina was high-energy, approachable, and offered plenty of modifications. Parking is tough. read more

My favorite yoga studio I've found so far. I recently moved out of state, so I am currently only subscribed to online classes (which is awesome!), but the studio itself is unbeatable. When I was going through a rough time, yogaRIOT was my reason to wake up in the morning and feel uplifted for the rest of my day. I have cried from happiness after a class- not even kidding! What sets yogaRIOT above all the rest? - spiritually calming AND physically challenging yoga - no music or quiet music with no lyrics - natural lighting!!!! - many different class times - free kombucha at the end of class - friendly and helpful owners and teachers - great straightforward advice so you can constantly grow - buddha, Annie's dog, is usually around asking for pets! And now with Covid, they have yoga "bubbles" to protect each student and online options for live or recorded classes. I love the bubbles because it gives you so much space to practice! The prices for all subscriptions are much better than any of my previous studios. I wish I could fly to Portland just for the yoga classes, but I guess that's impractical. I've been to nearly a dozen different yoga studios and this one is by far my favorite. I am already missing you dearly, yogaRIOT! read more

In house made Kombucha. Do I need to say more? Staff is great!!! And friendly!!! And knowledgeable!!! Keeps ya coming back for more! The hot yoga sesh is Seriously my friend and I left there feeling so elated because it felt so smooth and great with the flow and how encouraged we were while taking the class!!! Must try! read more

Yoga isn't for everyone. But if yoga is for you, then I think you might like this spot. The space is great. High ceilings, nice layout of merch, counter, drinks, stuff. They'll rent you a mat and towel, or store yours there so you don't have to haul it around. There are cubbyholes for your stuff, but leave valuables at home. Does anyone really need to be reminded of that? The yoga studio has great heating, indirect light, enough air so that when participants start getting that sweat on it isn't Oh The Humanity! However, I was way too close to other people. That might be just me, it didn't seem to bother anyone. Claudia led the group. What a nice woman! Really liked her warm smile, sincerity, gentle manner, and her knowledge. She talked the group through poses and she was speaking Yogaese so I just watched and tried to do what others were doing. They all seemed to know the moves and words and heaving breaths and such. People there looked like they were into it, and after they were all smiles. It did not feel competitive. You know what I'm talking about. The end was the best part! For me, anyway, because my bones have been broken and put back together imperfectly, many times, over many years, and some movements aren't just difficult, they hurt. I always forget, though, and am lured back because I'm strong and fit and I dont think of myself as disabled. It's only when I try something like yoga that I am bitterly reminded that I have limitations. It's not the fault of this place, this group, or this leader, it's me. If you're in a place with your body where gentle yoga, perseverance, and regular practice can improve your physicality, then go for it!! Do it here!! The heat, the gentle vibe, the knowledgeable leader - all those things are conducive to healing. Oh ya! At the end she came around and placed a cold lavender infused towel on my forehead. I fell in love a little bit. And the kombucha was a great way to start hydrating my body. And .... you do you. Listen to your body, be good to it, and never stop trying. read more

Best yoga studio in town. Nice teachers, challenging flow, and a warm, clean and inviting studio. Highly recommended. Kari, Mary, Ashley, Annie and the rest of the teachers will help you build that fire within. They are welcoming with newcomers while also helping the more intermediate students advance their practice. At the end of class during the final resting pose they come around and place cold lavender towel on your forehead. There isn't a more relieving feeling in the world. See you on your mat at yogariot! read more

yogaRIOT - Warmer than it looks! - Yoga Near Me - Portland, Oregon

Every instructor is special in their own way. I started yoga riot when I first moved to Portland and I felt like a had found something special. Annie is so special and I feel lucky to learn from everyone at yogaRIOT. read more

I've just completed the 2-week initial special and was so impressed with this gem of a yoga studio that I've signed up for the monthly pass. Please bear with me while I explain how I ended up at yogaRiot, and why I think it's special. I'm in my early 50s and haven't practiced yoga since my 30s. I've taken care of everyone else: my husband, my friends, and my students (I'm a middle school teacher). The last few years have been super-stressful, and about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. My body felt like it was giving up. Yoga seemed, like, impossible; there are days when it hurts just to pick up a pencil. And one day I woke up and thought, "No one else is going to fix this. Get up and do something about it." Enter yogaRiot. I loved their website and the fact that it doesn't emphasize the "perfect" body. I liked that the classes are reasonably priced. And the idea of hot yoga seemed intriguing because of my joints. Let's be honest... it's hard to walk into something new. But from the first class, I knew I had made a good decision. The teachers seem lovely and caring but also get down to business. They clearly love what they do. I think it was Kari who showed me around the studio. Maybe it's because I grew up in the South, but I liked the heat of the studio. It's clean and inviting. That first class was HARD. For someone unused to the practice, I had to go to child's pose constantly. The sweat was pouring out of me. Before I knew it, the class was coming to a close and the teacher put a cold lavender-infused washcloth on my face. Heaven! The kombucha after class is a nice touch, too. By the time I got home, I was so tired I cried. And told my husband that I loved it. All the little extras that yogaRiot does are lovely, but what really makes it special is the teachers. They are welcoming and really instruct and explain clearly. They make lots of adjustments during the class, and for someone like me that really helps. They've also had some great ideas about how to work around my arthritic hands. Thank you to yogaRiot for helping me rejuvenate! read more

First time doing hot yoga. Really enjoyed the concept, though the class itself left something to be desired. I found the teacher a bit hard to follow as she spoke so quickly and didn't enunciate. I also felt that it was not very focused on any of the spiritual aspects that I find to be so gratifying with yoga. It felt like a very hard core workout with no real roots. Luckily I enjoy a really good workout, so I came away pleased with that aspect, but felt it lacked in other important areas. Additionally, being an intermediate class I assumed I would be able to get through it no problem, as I have been doing yoga off and on for 16 years and work out regularly. But I was surprised by how overwhelmed I was by the pace of the class and the unclear transitions. There were a few really extreme poses that a lot of people wouldn't be able to do and no easier or safer adaptations were offered on many of them. It seemed the perfect opportunity for someone to injure themselves, being rushed so quickly through extremely difficult poses and with so little grounding. Other than that the place is cool! They offer free kombucha and everyone seems really nice. Prices are reasonable. If it was closer to home Id probably look into other teachers, but it's a bit far for a less than ideal experience. read more

I am new to yoga. I've been nervous to try any place. But I've been wanting to try it since it looks so relaxing. I had the Chinook app and decided to go for it. I used my coupon for 2 weeks. I was not planning to love this place to be honest. I thought I'd probably have to try a few places to see the best fit for me and my style. Thank goodness I tried this place FIRST because I don't want to try anywhere else. The teachers are all so welcoming and they explain the poses and breathing the whole class. Classes are throughout the day so I can pick and choose which spots I go to. And complimentary kombucha after class! I like to try the flavors. Because I started buying kombucha for my home too! I just feel so good! I have never felt more relaxing in my life. I have so much tension and stress that I am trying to work on in my life and this yoga studio absolutely makes me feel like I can handle anything and that I deserve a strong mind and body. Remember, to breathe. I take these yoga classes with me throughout the whole day. My well being has jumped up leaps and bounds in a short time. Thank you for this wonderful studio in my neighborhood. I already have a friend going to start the 2 week trial. Everyone will love this place!! read more

Love this studio. I live too far away to make it a monthly membership fitness/health routine, but I definitely go out of my way to snag a class when I'm in the need for a real rejuvenation. I love the space, love the people and love the soul-enriching classes they offer! read more

This studio and it's wonderful staff gave me the best start to hot yoga. The place is clean and spacious. The membership prices are accessible and their classes varied. Love this place! read more

I didn't really know what to expect at yogaRIOT, as I didn't read any prior reviews before trying out their weekday evening class. I'm pleased to say I was very much impressed with their amenities, genuine kindness, and professionalism. The studio itself is located on the second floor of a historic building in Sellwood. I was a initially confused on how to get in -- I thought there was another entrance for the yogis, but you just use the main entrance. Follow the yogaRIOT signs once inside - they make it very clear where to go. The check-in process was a breeze! After signing my life away, they showed me the cubbies, bathroom, and told me to help myself to their water station. The yoga class itself was great! It's very spacious, so there's lots of room for your neighbors. The last thing you want in a hot yoga room is feeling like your neighbors are too close. You're already sweaty enough - you don't want to touch anyone else! Additionally, what I really liked about this class is that they push you to deepen your position. I felt as though every time the teacher or teacher's aid walked by me, they would reposition me for correct alignment or to just a deeper stretch. How much more do I have to stick my booty up for downward dog?! Apparently a lot more. At the very end of class while you're in savasana, they place an ice cold towel on your forehead, which had a couple drops of lavender oil. This was incredibly refreshing!! Lastly, they have free water, free hot tea, and free kombucha. It was like a social hour right after class with your fellow yogis and teacher. I really enjoyed that aspect. What a great way to enjoy the rest of your day! read more

I have tried many studios here in Portland and none compare to yogaRIOT for me personally!! What keeps me coming back is the sense of community and the amazing teachers. I always leave class covered in sweat and feeling STRONG! Free kombucha at the end of class is just an added bonus. It's so inspiring to be surrounded by such a strong and welcoming group of teachers and students. read more

YogaRiot has one of the most inclusive and professional communities I've ever had the pleasure to be apart of. The studio and its stewards have a fantastic energy you'll have to experience to believe. Whether you want to stretch and warm your bones or just come around for the complimentary world class kombucha and lavender face towels you can not go wrong! Classes ranging from no experience to proficient there is something for everybody.. the app allows me to see what classes (60,75, or 90 min) and who is teaching. I'm brand new to yoga and just did my fourth class today at YogaRIOT. So far it's been a great experience for a newbie. It's not unbearably hot as I had feared, and it doesn't smell bad (I think because it isn't carpeted.) I've had three different teachers and have enjoyed each class (today's kicked my ass!) My fellow classmates have been friendly, and the space is clean and welcoming. I got the two week pass to "try it out," but am already feeling like I'll jump on the monthly deal they're offering. Who knows? Maybe I found my "thing" in yoga...... maybe. read more

Won a free year of yoga for this studio and have loved every class I have attended so far. Though I wish I could come more I absolutely enjoy my time while I'm there. I'm new to yoga and every anxiety I've had in past that kept me from doing yoga before is gone. The staff is always so welcoming/knowledgeable, I've met some pretty awesome yogis and every time I leave I'm much more relaxed than when I start. Looking forward to my next class already :-) read more

I am both sad and happy to say we are closing on a house in another city next week, which means I will be cancelling my membership here. I love this studio and all the instructors/apprentices. I have never felt out of place here, and for a yoga studio in Portland, that speaks VOLUMES. I always was made to feel comfortable being a bigger body in a smaller bodied world and I love everyone at Yoga Riot for that. Thank you, Annie and Kari for always pushing me to do shit I KNEW I could do but was too scared to make the leap on my own. I promise I will come and visit in the future. Yoga Riot is my absolute favorite studio, and made me rethink doing home practices on my own without fear of not being good enough. Do yourself a favor and GO HERE AND DO THE YOGAS! You CAN do it! read more

Beautiful studio and amazing teachers! All with different styles of the way they teach . I would love any class I went to and would get something out of each class. However I had a few run ins with the owner that left me jaded about practicing at the studio. Don't come here if you're new to yoga. I felt shamed and belittled by the owner if I didn't get every pose picture perfect. Aren't we all human here? I'm obviously trying and eager to learn!! I think it's important how you treat people and her approach was never kind. Instead left me feeling stupid and why did I even try or come to the class? I witnessed her doing this to other people as well in the year I attended the studio. I won't be returning here and wouldn't recommended anyone to do so either. read more

I joined YogaRiot a month or so before learning about the 30-day yoga challenge in March. That has made all the difference. Attending one class a day has not only built my sense of community and my affection for the instructors and my fellow yogis, but I've enjoyed several measurable physical differences, including the loss of 8 pounds! The classes are arduous but highly professional and it's always a pleasure to partake in complimentary kombucha and friendly conversation after class. I seem to have developed a very healthy yoga habit! read more

It's a great space, very clean. Instructor was very energetic. Students didn't get too much attention as it was a large class and the moves are so quick. I am still relatively new to yoga so I could have used a few more pointers. I'm sure it's fine for those who have more experience. For newbies: their website says "For your first class we will provide you with a yoga mat, mat cover, towels and a water bottle." I took this to mean they were free as that's what other yoga studios seem to do, but they charge you even on your first time. (The instructor did waive the fee, but only as a favor). I think the wording on the site is misleading. It should say those items are available to rent for a fee. read more

I've been attending classes and workshops at Yoga Riot for about three years now. As a full time yoga instructor myself, I was looking for a challenging practice to keep my own teaching from falling into stagnation. I found it! I love the teachers here.. They are real and do not fall prey to yoga clichè or stereotypes. Even though most classes are power vinyasa (baptiste based) each instructor has their unique flavor and really support your confidence and ability. Yoga Riot opens the doors of possibility and invite you inside. I love the loving care and details of the studio. The infrared heat in the room is literally a healing heat (google it! This heat allows us to live, it warms and nourishes from the inside out) this is the same light frequency from the sun that allows for growth on this planet and the same warmth we carry in our bodies. It is such a blessing to practice in this heat rather than standard hot yoga that only uses convectional heat (heat that only heats our outer layer and is very drying). I LOVE the cool lavender face towel offering at the end of practice (they lay it over the eyes as you rest). I also love their three different Soma kombuchas on tap. This place is family to me and I am so grateful to Annie and her team of support for providing such a beautiful and cared for space and practice. Love you guys! read more

Went for the first time Oct 9 for the 7pm class and the instructor was Amazing!! Lovely studio. Very challenging but felt amazing. The towel at the end was very refreshing! read more

I started coming to this yoga studio because it was on my way to work, and I knew I would stick to the early morning workouts. The teachers are very respectful and kind, and accept you wherever you are on this journey. As a former yoga teacher, I came back to my practice to find myself again, and this studio has provided a non judgmental and physically challenging workout. All of the instructors have their own voice, their own style. The whole experience, from the check in, to the practice, to the lavender towel at the end and the Kombucha on the way to your next destination make this studio a very special place. I would highly recommend this studio. You will not feel alone, or silly, or out of place. All are welcome. read more

I can't say enough positive things about this studio. For starters, the space itself is beautiful- tall open ceilings, beautiful wood floors, lots of room. Clean bathrooms & shower, changing spaces, lockers. Then there are the instructors!!
