YogaFlex offers a warm and inviting environment. I am so thrilled they opened so close to my house. I also really enjoy the hot Barkan and hot Vinyasa classes. Though my first love is Bikram, I do enjoy the fluidity of these other practices and it is nice to have options to break up my practice. I've been to this studio a handful of times for the sole reason being that they do give a really great class! I walk out feeling like I just had one of the best workouts and I definitely feel it the next day, which I like. The instructors absolutely know what they are doing, and kudos to the owners for hiring an excellent staff. Also the place is very clean and well kept. My issue with this place is the attitude that seems to be in the air, most definitely from the 2 owners of this place. Again, I'm not a regular being that I don't live or work close enough, but when I'm in Commack I like to come here for the classes. The very first time I came and filled out a new student form, the woman at the front desk introduced herself as one of the owners, then pretty much acted as if she couldn't be bothered, or like she was doing me a favor. Just an unfriendly tone all around. I figured whatever, not a big deal maybe she was having a bad day. Yet every single time I've come here since, I've felt the same unfriendly attitudes and have actually witnessed the women behind the desk being pretty rude and quick with other people as well, and on the phone. It's just a turn off, this is a yoga studio right? I like to frequent different hot yoga places and it just seems like this is the only place where I don't feel comfortable or welcomed before or after class. Yes their classes are awesome, but maybe being a bit less impertinent and a little more humble or friendly would be in their best interest. I was just reading other reviews and glad to see I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way. I will be back for the great classes. I'm not high maintenance and don't need incredible customer service, or staff overly trying to please at a yoga studio, but a little bit of niceness behind the desk goes a long way. People come to yoga to escape the coldness of the world, not walk into it! read more

Went for the first time this past Saturday while visiting my parents for the long holiday weekend. Was so happy to find such a great hot yoga studio so close to their place. I sprung for the $30 for 10 days deal. You get mat and towel with that - and the mat is yogitoes one, so it fits fully on your mat & doesn't slip. This studio didn't smell - which was so refreshing. If you've been to some hot yoga studios, you know it can start to get funky after a while. I went to the noon class - and the place was nice and cool and fresh in the waiting area. I took the 60 min hot yoga class. It was my first time taking the abbreviated class. I almost felt like it was a bit rushed for my taste. But being such a hot day - was happy to be done so quickly. I will definately be back to try the 90 min class. Was also kind of cool that they played music during class. When we got to sivasana - the chanting was nice and meditatitng. I just melted away in my mat. Also, to note - floor of the yoga room didn't soak up sweat and wasn't funky - like some other hot yoga studios can get. I walked in and felt like I was walking into the first class of the day, not the third. They do keep the room pretty hot - and only a few open the door breaks. If you are in need a refresher mid class - stand all the way to the right near the doors that lead outside. Wish I knew that for my first class. I did get deeper into a few postiions b/c of the heat, so didn't quite mind it. Everyone was super friendly and invited me back. Felt totally at home and comfortable here. Will definately be back anytime I am home to visit my parents. It can be hard to find a great hot yoga studio. read more

I love this studio. The room is spacious and clean. The schedule offers heated and non-heated classes. As a yoga teacher, I can practice for free at other locations, but I choose to come here instead. The instructors are the best in the area. They have extensive training and continue to learn. In an area where every 200 hour graduate is opening a studio, it is nice to have instructors that are knowledgeable. As for the negative reviews about leaving the room, I have witnessed newbies at other studios leave and pass out. This is for your safety. If you take up any new activity, it is helpful to do a little research and know what to expect. The prices are fair and competitive for the area. New students can take advantage of groupon or the first time special. I highly recommend Yoga Flex. read more

Yoga flex is such an amazing studio. They have a variety of classes that cater to the needs of every individual and body type. The teachers are well trained in different styles of yoga. I have been to every studio on Long Island and can attest to the integrity and honesty of the teachers and students. It is a welcoming environment and I look forward to seeing my new friends every time i come to class. The facility is immaculate , constantly being cleaned by teachers or work exchange students. I love the decor and the room heats to tempatures unlike any other hot yoga studio. I love the teachers at the studio. They are so well informed and cater to the needs of the clientele. They offer a variety of classes and styles that appeal to the needs of every-body. I've searched all over for a studio like this and finally found one!! For those of you that are writing reviews under 5 stars, not sure what you are thinking! The teachers are trained to make sure you are safe in the room , for example if you have a health issue, you need to tell the staff, staying in the room is for your own health and well-being because they can't help you outside of the room . No one has ever died from hot yoga so stop being a baby, if you need a break sit down on your mat and take one , its not necessary to run out of the room, you break up the group energy and throw off the dynamics of group instruction. Their prices are extremely competitive, espically when they run specials . Every studio has a policy of classes expiring, and every one I have gone to has never ever ever offered me the opportunity to get my classes back if I commit to more . I think that's an awesome policy . They want you to join and be a member. I decided to try out their introductory special for 20 bucks. My first class was taught by Pam, she explained things to me before I began the class so I knew what I was in for and made me feel very welcome. Going into this i thought it would be a peaceful experience but the classes at this studio are taught in more of a militant manner which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I walked out feeling great and more alive than ever but still was on the fence. Mainly because of the high cost of the classes. I decided to buy more classes and became familiar with each instructors teaching styles. I soon felt the wrath that is Dana. Dana and Karen are the owners and each time I attended their classes I left in complete shock. How could these women be so nasty? Karen especially has a bad attitude. In one class she stated sternly not to modify a posture when an elderly man spoke up and said he had to because he had a bad back. WRONG MOVE! She went ape shit and began YELLING, I'm sure making everyone in the room feel tense and uncomfortable. She completely put him on the spot and degraded him. I felt terrible. If you can attend a class with either Pamela or Kim, definitely go! Kim is by far the best instructor there, she makes sure to know everyones names, plays great music and really knows how to make you feel motivated without being too pushy. The studio is nice and clean, i developed a love of hot yoga because of this place despite the owners terrible attitudes. read more

I have been to a couple hot yoga places and I disliked this one the most! Two of my friends came along with me and we all decided this particular studio was not for us. The staff is VERY unfriendly. Other people who have been to this studio that I know have shared the same opinion. Even when I called to ask the hours-the woman who answered the phone was so nasty and could not be bothered! I've been coming here for close to 5 years now and I love it. They offer several styles of hot yoga from Bikram-style, Barkan, Vinyassa, gentle warm (not "hot"), and a free monthly sober flex for people in recovery. The instructors and owners are great and have a true passion for what they do. All levels from beginner to expert have class options . Hot yoga isn't for everyone and it can take several classes to get over the initial overwhelming feelings it can bring, but if you are ready for the challenge, this is a great studio. read more

The instructors are rude. They speak to you as if you're a child. I was reprimanded for trying to leave 5 minutes early. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I have been to many different hot yoga studios before, and I think none of them come close to what Yoga Flex has to offer. The studio is clean, the room has a padded (not wooden) floor that is great for the knees, and there are even multiple showers. Unlike most other studios, there are SO many different types of classes to choose from, and they have such a wide range of class times so that I can always manage to get to one with my schedule. I see some harsh reviews on here, but I think it's just because Yoga Flex is different than your traditional yoga studio. It's yoga with a little more of a modern twist to it. It's a style of yoga that really challenges your mind and body out of your comfort zone. If you're willing to get past a little discomfort at first, you will see remarkable, positive changes to your mind and body. read more

Yoga Flex is great! The studio is clean and beautiful. Each of the teachers has a particular style but everyone is encouraging and focused on making sure all the students have a safe and productive experience. Hot yoga can be really hot - no question about it, and sometimes it's really hard to make it through the class - but afterwards, what a great feeling! I would suggest trying all the different classes and all the teachers, finding the one (s) that work best for you - you will feel the benefits, physically and mentally. read more

I signed up for the "introductory $30 for 10 day" deal. So today, I went to my first Hot Yoga class. I had been a hot yoga "goer" before, at another studio. This was one of the worst and demeaning classes i have ever paid money for. The instructor, Karen, (there are 2 and I'm not sure which one she was) was SO rude to me because I felt faint. She yelled at me in front of the entire class to lay down. So I laid down on my mat, and after 2 minutes, got back up to perform the poses. She comes over to me, gets in my face, and yells "you said you felt faint and now all of the sudden you are continuing to do poses?" I felt as though anything I did was the wrong thing to do. So I continued for about 20 more minutes and took my water and walked out of the actual hot studio. She comes chasing after me screaming PICK ONE, IN OR OUT, PICK ONE AND STICK TO IT. So i said i'm embarrassed at this point, so i will stay out. I wanted to just leave, but she told me i WASN'T ALLOWED to leave the studio until class was over. So i sat on a bench doing nothing. She was so mean and disgraceful I can't even begin to explain how awful she made me feel. I will never return here, despite its convenience to my house. I never use yelp, so trust me when I say...I am taking the time and effort to write this review to forewarn people about her atrocious attitude. either AVOID AT ALL COSTS or GO TO CLASSES SHE DOESN'T TEACH!!! read more

I am thankful to the owners, Dana & Karen for opening this successful and inspirational yoga studio in the area. Their hot yoga classes warm my mind, body and soul. Although I also swim, walk and weight train to stay in shape, hot yoga is by far my favorite way to stay healthy and keep balance in life. The heat is so beneficial not only for detox but to warm up the body which makes it easier to stretch into the poses. Although it is a challenge to breathe correctly, listen and and follow instruction from beginning to end of class, I always feel fantastic afterwards and stand a little taller. For anyone considering taking a class for the first time, I suggest you purchase a Groupon and in my opinion, Tuesday morning class at 9:30 with Chris would be a great start because he is extremely detailed in his explanation of what you should be doing in each pose so you get the full benefit and don't hurt yourself. Try it, you'll like it and if you stick with it, you'll eventually love it. I highly recommend Yoga Flex Commack. read more

The staff at YogaFlex is professional and friendly. I have invested a lot of time here, and each time I walk in, I feel welcome and happy to be in class. If you want your hand held, or need some lovin' like your mama gave you, go pay a therapist, write to Dr. Phil, or find a bartender. Or go beat your chest and yell in the woods or whatever. This is a yoga studio dedicated to yoga. The instructors and owners have studied yoga extensively and it shows. I have been to studios up and down the eastern seaboard and my yoga practice and skill level did not improve until I found YogaFlex. I do not expect anyone to throw any cumbayah at me -- neither do I want it. As always, I am looking for competent and skilled instructors who can either correct me in my practice or encourage me to try something different or more advanced. In any case, I think the negative reviews here were from people who were looking for oranges in a hardware store -- either that or they just were terminally unhappy people who have fun writing nasty reviews. I have fun at YogaFlex, and everyone I know has fun, too. I've made some good friends here and will continue to attend classes every week. I like the people who attend classes, the instructors, the cleanliness, the wide level of classes, the instructors, the location and the heat. If you don't want to be instructed at a yoga studio, pop in a DVD and practice in your own living room. That works for some people, but not for me. read more
