Clean, simple yet beautiful space with dirt cheap yoga in about as many styles as you can imagine. $10 for a 90 minute class? That's nuts! The one thing they seem to be lacking is serious alignment/Iyengar yoga, but that's hard to find in DC anyway especially if you can't manage Unity Woods semester-style enrollment. People who practice here are mostly friendly and unpretentious (pants with [unintentional] holes in them, mismatched tank and shorts--which I only mention because so many women complain about being intimidated by the shallow vibe of other studios.) You will almost definitely have to rotate some to find a teacher and style you click with, but that's true of most studios anyway. At least here your experimentation is affordable--so try everyone you can. read more

Not all yoga studios are created equally, but overall I enjoy Yoga District's offerings. I had Gracy as an instructor years ago at Quiet Mind in Columbia Heights and was very excited to see was teaching at the Bloomingdale studio. I would highly recommend Gracy's classes at for a well-paced, energetic-but-soothing flow class. I like Caroline's classes as well. There are definitely some instructors and classes I've enjoyed less, and the feel of each class varies widely. I would encourage people to try a number of classes (try not to think too hard about the description and classifications- some lower number classes end up having the potential to be more challenging if the instructor encourages different options. Although the rocket yoga class I went to was maybe the hardest I've ever worked in a yoga class). The upside is there are a lot of options. The trouble is finding the one that suits the style you enjoy the most. read more

I've been enjoying YogaDistrict's classes in Glover Park for over three years. Their instructors and wide range of class offerings are excellent. I prefer to go to the noon classes which are attended by students, local residents, and people working nearby. The convenience coupled with the cost and the range of class choices make YogaDistrict a great deal. I highly recommend them, whether you attend their Glover Park studios or one of their many studios throughout the city. read more

I didn't know there was more than one room here so I walked into the first one I found. They asked my name, didn't find it on their list, so just wrote it down. I really don't think they even had a list pulled up on their computer or phone. They didn't ask me if this was the class I was supposed to be in or anything. I settled in to what should have been a flow class. It turned out to be a relaxation class. I was expecting a workout; Instead I get 45 minutes of lying down. I'm an inexperienced yoga practicer, and when my friend convinced me to go here, I was nervous I was going to make a fool of myself. Instead, the class seemed like a great mix of beginners and people who knew what they were doing, and the teacher was very friendly and patient. The place is pretty basic, just a couple of rooms, and it did get a little crowded. But the vibe seemed really laid back and I prefer that to a fancy facility. I did walk into the wrong room like another Yelper, but they told me where to go. I would advise double checking what class you're in if it's your first time. read more

Yoga District has everything one needs in a yoga studio - clean facilities, friendly staff, great teachers, and a welcoming community. I think yoga is sometimes co-opted by skinny young women clad in expensive yoga apparel. I'm glad to see diversity in each class. LOVE IT! I took the beginners class on Tuesday night to stretch out. Although I've taken previous yoga classes it was refreshing and calming to go over the fundamental poses, learn correct posture and stance to get the most out of the pose. The instructor Gigante Victorious! (who is actually a short slim woman with curly hair and nice frames) is the bomb!!! She was great! Her voice was calming and her wit made the class flow with a pleasant yogi energy. From walking in the 14th Street studio the vibe was right. I was greeted by the beautiful Michelle whos big gorgeous hair caught my eye. She gave me a brief background on Yoga District, a beginners package online and hooked me up with a mat for rental. I took the Yoga 1 class on Monday at 6:30am and loved it. I will be back as often as possible. The instructor was friendly and welcoming, and the classes was low pressure. Best yoga session I've had in awhile. The facilities are undergoing construction which is the only reason I'm giving it a 4. This studio makes you feel at home and works to create a community and sets a peaceful tone for class. The rooms have plenty of sunlight and space. The best was Jerrick! He is a gem! Let's see: In the past few months, I have reviewed a glorified foot massage, a day spa, a gay bar, a couple of clothing stores, and a place to get bubble tea. At some point, I'm going to have to review another football stadium and BBQ joint before all of you dismiss me as some kind of East Coast charlatan who has lost his Southern roots. Today is not that day. Today, I am going to review a place to do yoga. There are all sorts of reasons a dude should do yoga. For example, do you play sports? Do you want to be better at them? Did it ever occur to you that yoga's centering techniques and focus on core exercises can increase not only your concentration but your flexibility? Well, that's one or two good reasons to go. Outside of sports, I've found that the practice allows me to reach a place of more focused concentration in everyday life as well. And the whole attainment of a more peaceful demeanor can have lasting effects on your patience and communication skills which could positively impact all sorts of aspects of your life. Plus, there is nothing more manly than carrying a yoga mat around DC. OK, that last statement was a blatant lie. But still, yoga can be good for you. Embrace it. Is Yoga District worth your time? Probably. I think YD is great for beginners. There are a ton of different classes that are offered, and they have a pretty nice special for first time students (you can get 2:1 yoga price for the first week). Overall, the classes are inexpensive, not overly complicated, and there is at least some interaction between yoga instructor and student where you feel you are getting a workout from the training. Moreover, mats are really cheap to rent and everyone just seems to be super friendly and not over the top about the practice. Probably one of the major cons is that they only have heated yoga as opposed to Bikram Yoga if you happen to be a masochist. Another issue is spacing - sometimes, the classes are a bit crowded which makes it more difficult to see what the teacher is doing and means less personal attention for you. Still, however, it's tough to beat as far as an introduction to yoga is concerned. I don't think I'm on a yoga kick, but it's definitely an interesting training in mind/body and flexibility that is worth experiencing even for the most jaded of non-believers. I could see myself going approximately once every week. read more

I've shopped around with yoga studios in DC, and I've found many of them to be overly trendy, overpriced and just too fancy! Yoga District has the right idea, keep it clean, simple and cheap. The space is beautiful and light filled, the teachers are kind and they offer a great variety of classes. I've practiced at all 3 studios and would recommend any of them to anyone who is looking for a fantastic, no-frills studio. read more

Oh Yoga District, thank you for reminding me of how crappily out of shape I am. I was kinda stressed last week so I thought, hey, I need exercise, & to relax, why not try yoga! I did the $10/3 class thing that every other reviewer has mentioned, by far the best deal I've seen yet. Mat rental is $1, very affordable. They have cubbies for you to store your mat if you have one already. I think this is a good place to go if you're a beginner, because the classes are small and non-intimidating. The two ladies who led my classes were friendly and helpful, and made me feel like I wasn't screwing up the positions as bad as I was. The only relaxing part was at the end during meditation, and I seriously questioned whether my wrists would snap throughout the session, but I'm sure if I kept at it would be more relaxing, as I wouldn't be consistently checking to see if my poses were correct. The pretzeling people have inspired me, and I might just give yoga a permanent place in my nonexistent workout regime. They were also looking for volunteers to work there when I went...I think you get a discount off classes, which are already pretty cheap, so check it out if you have some free time! read more

Disclaimer: this review is based on their Monday-night acro-yoga class, so please don't think it applies to their standard flow classes. It might; it might not. Who knows? I haven't checked them out. I'm not from the area, so maybe I missed last week's news letter. But the intermediate acro yoga class we attended last night was more like a fusion of partner crossfit and Thai message than anything else. The instructor was nice, friendly and welcoming--nothing wrong there--but I felt like we didn't get what we wanted/expected. The class description states the target audience are those interested in handstand training, advanced flows and washing machines. Having been to several introductory classes and feeling underwhelmed, I was excited to possibly learn some more technical poses/transitions. The description seemed to indicate this class was for me. It even called out prerequisite skills for attending, so surely this was going to be the 'good stuff'. Instead, I received a lot of pushups, dips and other exercises. Of the 1hr45min class, we probably did 10 mins of pure acro yoga in the conventional sense. Had I known this was the case, I probably would have forgone the class and just jammed in the park. I already worked out that morning so I wanted something involving a little more play. I'm not bitter about the experience. Like I said, the instructor was great (I guess it was a sub that day?). However, I recommend yoga district update its class descriptions if a class plans on veering away from what is advertised so that customers can decide whether its the right practice for them or not. The beauty of yoga, and to an extent fate/luck/karma, is that just when I'm starting to get a little smug about my practice I walk into a class that basically kicks me in the rear and quite literally grounds me. Aqueel's class did exactly that. His incredibly straight forward instruction style, sense of cool detachment, and let's face it, dry, almost snarky sense of humor will either make you a fan for life, or running for the door. No one ran for the door. I woudn't expect anyone to either. He's an outstanding instructor who teaches in the Dharma Mittra style (google that) of yoga which is deceptively simple but far more physically challenging than it seems and deeply spiritual. That is, if you let it get there. The line up of teachers they have here is stellar. The minimalistic approach to yoga, (mostly) bare walls and a less "noisy" practice won me over. No, actually it was noticable lack of lululemon that really did the trick. Practice here! Your hamstrings and maybe stress levels will thank you. read more

This studio is in a row house above Taylor Gourmet sandwich shop which means the class rooms are small and narrow. They are redoing all the floors. I took Kat M's Yoga 1-2 class and it was great! She asked us to greet as many other students in the class as possible, never seen people smile at each other in a yoga class before. read more

This is clearly the happening yoga brand in DC. I did a drop-in class for $11 (same price for 2 classes if you use within 7 days) and enjoyed myself thoroughly although it does get a bit packed. Would like to try a more challenging class - definitely will go again on my next visit in town. read more

I love the "no nonsense, lets get down to some yoga" approach of this studio. And the best part about the place is the Kundalini and meditation(which can be hard to find)! Candice has such a fun personality which comes through in her teaching style. I have practiced at most of the Yoga District studios and have had nothing but great experiences and great teachers, I recently completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with Yoga District at the 14th St location and was beyond swept away. Yoga teacher training was by far one of the hardest but most amazing experiences I've ever had. I went into the training thinking about how I can use the training for others but what I really learned is what the training can bring to me. All of the training teachers are amazing. They not only teach you the poses but the beautiful philosophy of yoga. My practice has truly blossomed and I am truly grateful for having had this experience. read more

Ive been practicing yoga regularly since I discovered it at the Boston Sports Club in 2002. I never ventured far from yoga at gyms or vacation / volunteer retreats because the cost was prohibitive. Yoga District is my yoga paradise! its very, very affordable, down-to-earth like yoga should be and they offer a huge buffet of yoga styles all day, every day to help me find the style that fits for me. I've discovered Kundalini helps me feel good inside and jumpstarts the spirit, Iyengar helps me fine tune the postures I have been doing all these years, and flow / power vinyasa when I need to get the heart pumping. read more

I love everything about Yoga District. I love both the Dupont and.14 & T studios, the size and intimacy of the classes, the students who practice there, and most of all, the instructors. They are amazing, I have learned so much about proper alignment and form when executing poses and inversions and they do an excellent job providing adjustments during class. I've been to both this one and the Bloomingdale location ( I have not been to Dupont), and although I like the Bloomingdale space more, I like 14th just for the sheer fact that it's so easy to get to. Multiple metro lines, a short walk away. Since I am really new to yoga, only taken less than a handful of classes, am really enjoying that so far everyone has been really supportive and not intimidating at all, they've so far done their best to make you feel at ease. Yoga district is the most affordable yoga in DC, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Some of the teachers here are great, but others are not so much. What bothers me about yoga district is that you never really know what you're getting yourself into, and after having a couple of low energy teachers, I won't be going back. read more

I'm a total beginner to yoga (aside from some basic positions shown to me by a physical therapist and some DVDs), and was extremely nervous about starting up. Add to that: I have some belly pudge and am not in the best shape due to a long-standing back injury, and I was terrified! I got the intro deal, and while I only ended up using two of the three classes in one week, I was hooked. The teachers are very friendly and kind, and reassured me that this was non-competitive and that I was doing a great thing for myself regardless of whatever shape I am currently in (not in a creepy way). And you know what? They're right! I feel fantastic when I leave-- fantastic enough to make this night-owl-for-life get up and go to a 9 am Saturday morning class. I like that the studios, teachers and students are unpretentious and affordable, which is what I think yoga should be. I look forward to coming back and finding out that what I previously thought was impossible is achievable! (Still not ready for that scorpion pose, though.) read more

Affordable and friendly, but rarely a good workout. So many times, the teacher would decide to take it easy on us, sensing low energy in the room. Sometimes the reason was because it was Monday, or Friday, or Sunday, or because the teacher had just run a marathon (ok; I didn't, but I did pay for this class!). So, I think it's a studio better suited for beginners. Or marathon runners. read more
