I'm sorry but I'm not sure if I agree with the current ratings of 4.7 this place has (as of Feb 2, 2025.) To me, based on our experience tonight, it's none other than a super over-hyped sushi restaurant that only has a high end feel to it. Service: was decent. We arrived at the place 11 minutes before our reservation time of 5pm. Since my daughter works in the restaurant industry, as a politeness, we didn't go inside until 4:59pm even though one of the workers came to the door and unlocked it at 4:51pm. Once inside he knew we were the 5pm reservation. He was polite but somehow his whole demeanor lacked friendliness. Menu: Even though the drink menu was an actual physical one, the food menu is online. How strange. After scanning the QR code, we were hoping to see a good selection of food items. But to our surprise, the food menu is/was very small. Actually this place's main thing is nothing but "omakase" where if you choose to order from the a la cart section, the choices are so limited (we were here in town from Denver, CO. After eating some deep-fried stuff for the last few days, we felt that we were truly healthy food or salad depleted; just to clarify, we didn't show up to to this restaurant just to eat salad because after all, this is a sushi restaurant. We love sushi. And yet we were hoping for some decently sized salad. Unfortunately none is/was found on the menu. I even personally asked the guy to see if the sushi chef could whip up something but he gave me a nonchalant no.) We still believed this place could do some magical things so we ordered a bowl of miso soup, oyster tarter (lobster tarter replacement), tuna, salmon and yellowtail nigiris. Miso soup, for the price of $10, was extremely small. Also the entire soup was lukewarm to a point where the center of the small tofu pieces was still cold. Ugh... All the nirigis tasted fresh but I didn't care for the sweet sauce (mainly used for unagi/eel) on the salmon nigiri. Why?? I've never had a salmon nigiri prepared this way.) The only item that was impressive was the oyster tarter (not on the menu as this was the replacement item for the lobster tarter.) This was excellent where we could have easily ordered another one but at this point, we didn't want to spend anymore $$ as all items on the menu are not cheap here. We are a fan of yuzu. The only dessert item (once again, there is only one dessert on the menu) is yuzu tart or something like that. One of the sushi chefs informed us though that the online menu hadn't been quite updated for this so he said it would be a yuzu sponge cake type thing. We decided to give it a try. This, however, failed to impress us either as it was a very much average sponge cake, nothing more at all. We didn't order any drinks besides the water so the final bill was about $75 with some change. Well, tonight's overall experience of ours didn't justify this amount in any way possible. There was another sushi restaurant that had the similar ratings with similar location (when we searched it yesterday.) Maybe we should have chosen that one instead. Disappointed.... read more

My spouse and I made a reservation and came in a on Sunday night. The restaurant is setup with a large sushi bar. The main chef was not present, but the staff was terrific. We started with cocktails which had fun twists in flavor. We ordered the Omakase and upgrade one fish dish to the Wagu beef ($50). I dug in, forgetting to take a photo. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasty, including some unique ingredients like ginger imported from Japan. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough. If the chef is reading reviews... switch the miso soup with a mini-ramen to give the meal more substance. read more

Hmm. I really wanted to like this place. I booked a reservation for a Monday night (keep in mind they close Tuesdays and Wednesdays) but I guess it wasn't needed! We were pretty much the only ones in the establishment. We were seated at the corner. The serving counters seemed unusually high--so it was difficult to see or enjoy them preparing our food. Since it's omakase, you don't get to order anything a la carte until you are served the 4 pieces of sushi in the middle of the experience. We had about 4 appetizers before the sushi, followed by an entree which was seared drum and then the dessert. I do wish there was a menu to prepare us for what was coming up. I was honestly a little disappointed there wasn't more raw sushi or fish dishes in the experience. My friend and I enjoyed the first squash soup but everything afterwards tasted a bit too salty. The sushi was also decent but I think maybe I've ruined myself with the omakases I've had in Austin. The dessert was also miso based but it was dry and quite salty. It reminded me more of a corn bread. Overall I think my expectations were missed here. read more

Was looking for good Japanese food/Omakase and Yo Nashi did not disappoint. You definitely need a reservation though so book ahead! The executive chef, Mack Broqu, prepares the food right in front of you. Food was incredibly fresh and delicious. I sprang for the wagyu beef and was not disappointed by how tender and delicious it was. Found all the sushi to be great cuts of fish with perfectly prepared sushi rice. I was only in New Orleans for a week attending a conference but I seriously considered going a second time while I was there. HIGHLY recommend! read more

Best sushi experience I've had in New Orleans by a mile. They're located in a narrow space in the CBD. Blink and you'll miss the door. One inside you'll be seated at their sushi bar, and guided through dinner. They change their menu nightly, and serve only omakase, which is a 10 course tasting menu. Stand outs to me were the soup course, nigiri course (5 pieces of various fish, each piece counts as a course in the 10 course setup), the grouper entrée, and a stolen bite from the $50 supplement of wagyu my friend ordered. Everything was excellent. I left perfectly satisfied, not stuffed, but also not hungry. Service was tip top. The food of course was handed to us directly from the chef in front of us, but the waiters also did a bang up job making sure our drinks were full, and every need and question was covered. One thing to note is that we were a party of ten, if I remember correctly, and we didn't really get to chat with folks down at the end of the bar since it was all sushi bar seating. There's a big focus on the food experience, so if you're with a big group, don't expect it to be a raucous storytelling with buddies type dinner. Perfect setup for a date night. Overall, like I started with, this is the best sushi dinner I've had in NOLA, and for $89/head, it sits fairly high on my list of good sushi meals I've had anywhere. Amazing bang for your buck. (Houston Omakases typically run $150-$350+ per person depending on supplements and drink orders) read more

This is what they mean by food porn y'all. I seriously felt like having a glass of whiskey with a cigarette after the meal because it was that good. I don't even smoke cigarettes but I'd happily light one just to have a Pulp Fiction moment to show my gratitude to the chef. By far one of the best meals I've had in New Orleans. You are coming here for an experience that will blow your damn mind away and over stimulate your taste buds. Yo Nashi is an omakase restaurant, so think of it as multiple tastings with set courses decided by the chef and their team. I highly recommend grabbing a reservation ahead of time because this is a very intimate experience. You're sitting right across from the chef and their team as all the chairs are against the "sushi bar" for a total of maybe 15 seats at most. The dark tones of the restaurant create a cozy atmosphere perfect to catch up with friends you haven't seen in a moment or a special meal for whatever the reason may be. Freaking A, the smells coming from the kitchen y'all. Seeing their team in action and how strategic they were with plating was surreal. Every dish presented to us was divine. I really loved the spacing and teaming of each bite as you were able to enjoy genuine conversations with your "table". What I'm still dreaming about to this day (no seriously, I probably have a daily thought about this meal) were the cuts of tuna, fish, and bluefin. The chef informed us they had actually caught it fresh and it seriously tasted like we were on the gulf coast ourselves. Ever piece of sushi or sashimi was SO F*@#ING GOOD. It seriously melted in your mouth and I'm not even exaggerating about that. ***One thing you'll really walk away from your dining experience is how the chef breaks down each tasting and conveys the cooking process and ingredients in a way that even the most novice of eaters can understand. This isn't a pretentious restaurant or undermines those who might not be fully versed. It was such a refreshing personality of a restaurant of this caliber to have! So a few dishes I actually remembered to write down were (don't forget it's omakase style so don't expect all of these to be featured when you dine in, most likely will rotate or differ due to chefs inspiration/taste when you go in): -Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho: Super light and refreshing. Adorable presentation! -Red Snapper Sashimi: HELL YES. I can't explain it any other way lol. It had pickled beets and radishes which complimented it perfectly. -Spiced Crusted Bluefin Tuna: literally a euphoric moment in your mouth. Melted in your mouth. -Lemon Fish: had toasted avocado and sesame seeds. I'm not even a fan of avocado and I enjoyed this. -Wagyu: This was an extra $$ add-on but for the love of foodies, DO IT IF IT IS AVAILABLE. It had chanterelle mushrooms and corned cream sauce. I seriously shed a happy tear because I was blown away by it. I took my time with this dish because I wanted to savor every moment with it. We probably had at least 12+ tastings and it was nicely wrapped up with a dessert. I should've licked the dessert plate clean tbh. It was light and had blueberries and a lemon based shortcake. I'm coming back. I have to come back. Someone please take me back to Yo Nashi. read more

I want to gatekeep this place so bad but the quick experience we had here was in need of my gratitude and thanks for the good folks at Yo Nashi. We already had dinner plans but my friend told us about this spot so we decided to get a few bites before dinner. The staff were really cool and relaxed, talked to us and made us feel very very welcome. The yellowtail nigiri was lights out amazing. We had the tuna hand roll which was outstanding as well. Then we had the A5 wagyu roll which was fantastic, not too heavy but still fatty. Last was a complimentary amberjack dish one of the sous made. That was crazy too. We are coming back to do the omakase in a few weeks and I can't wait for that experience. If you want incredible sushi and a great atmosphere come here you will not regret it! read more

I've been wanting to try Yo Nashi ever since hearing about this new omakase restaurant opening in New Orleans, which is a rare find here in the south. I wanted to go on the weekend of my birthday, except Baton Rouge experienced a freeze in the beginning of the week which wasn't pleasant and threw off all of my plans. Well I finally got to try Yo Nashi last night and I'm honestly disappointed. I've read the reviews about how the owner says it's a "New Orleans omakase, not a Japanese style omakase", but I wasn't expecting so much cooked food. The flavors were a bit lackluster with the exception of two or three courses. Two of my biggest complaints is that we were served red snapper twice as I have never been served the same fish twice during an omakase dinner (red snapper plain, then red snapper with caviar...), and that the final course was bland and tasteless. I managed to get photos of everything except for the ora king salmon nigiri because I was just too hungry. The verdict is that I wouldn't come back. I had very high hopes for Yo Nashi, but This isn't my first rodeo, and I've never left hungry after omakase like I did here, especially for a similar price point. I've always been at least satisfied or actually very full. Unfortunately, we ended up going to another spot after to fill our bellies and satisfy our cravings. read more

Each of these dishes was incredible! I couldn't savor each bite enough. And the presentation is beautiful. We went for the lunch special, so the price was slightly reduced from the usual dinner price. The only reason I've deducted a star is the very high price of the meal and drinks. It is also bar seating only, so not ideal for a larger groups. read more

A great Omakase spot near the French Quarter! Amazing staff! It's a very intimate setting! Definitely recommend!

Sheeeeesh. Chef Matt is working it at Yo Nashi. If you're coming here expecting authentic Japanese omakase - leave those expectations at the door. As the owner, Kyle, would say, "It's New Orleans omakase, not omakase in New Orleans." $89 for omakase (chef's choice). I left super full and super satisfied. The menu has smaller changes daily, but weekly they will have larger changes depending on what they can source for the week. I had an amazing tomato bisque. It was light and refreshing. And the cucumbers gave it a good crunch. The most memorable dish during my meal was the tartare. Accompanied with Compressed watermelon that was extra sweet and paired well with the tartare. Everything else we had was great, too. They have a good selection of cocktails + wines by the glass and bottles and Japanese alcohols. Would definitely recommend and will be making a reservation to come back soon! read more

I have be en here multiple times and honestly torn after this last visit as to if I will return. I will highly recommend, if you go, not to attend the very last dinner seating. You will be short changed during service. The prior few times I went, we were offered additional pieces of what was our favorite portion of the meal. This time, there was no additional pieces offered. Perhaps they ran out of food??? However, midway in the meal, the staff started cleaning up, and putting away food, cleaning counters, etc. We sat there watching people clean up, and the head chef walk to the back for awhile, return to remove the garbage and walk away again. Very little interaction between chef or staff. In fact, the only interaction occurred when the food was delivered or taken away. Otherwise, silence. And though no one made us feel rushed, it's an uncomfortable feeling, almost like they were more excited about being done than taking care of us. There was considerable time spent waiting for the final course. Waiting and watching them clean. Finally, as our last portion of the meal was being prepared by a different staff member, not the head chef, I saw the rest of the staff standing at the end of the bar chatting and socializing. It felt as if us finishing our meal was standing in their way of going home. I don't want you to think they weren't polite.... we were asked if we wanted another drink, but the restaurant was literally cleaned, everything stored and washed and it was just the two of us, finishing our meal. Didn't seem right to order anything else. At that point I felt like a nuisance. The food is delicious and presented in an appealing arrangement, but not a lot of food to begin with. The "courses" are simply pieces of sushi with a somewhat larger main course. The extra pieces offered in previous visits made for a more fuller meal and I thought that was part of the appeal/service. I do understand that clean up is necessary and don't begrudge them the opportunity to get a head start. But I would suggest not offering a 9pm dinner seating if it is too close to closing time. The 9pm seating deserves the same attention and service as the earlier seating times. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner a few nights ago and we had a nice evening. The ambiance is nice but I wouldn't say romantic-it's decorated beautifully, but the focus is definitely on making the food so the only seating is along the sushi bar in front of the chefs. Service is attentive, but not personal. This is an Omakase style restaurant, so there's only one option for dinner which is chef's choice and typically will be 3 small appetizer courses, a sushi course (5 different pieces), a main course, followed by dessert. The meal is $89 a person (food only), and we were given the option to upgrade our main course from the fish of the evening to Wagyu beef for an additional $50. While the food was very good, I don't know that I can say it's the best sushi I've ever had, which was slightly disappointing for the price. For our particular evening, our apps were a cold soup, a tartare, and a seared scallop (all with fancy accoutrements), then the 5 piece sushi, followed by the fish, and then a small dessert. The have a limited drink menu off cocktails, wine/sake, beer, liquors, all of which are a bit pricy. The cocktails were mostly $16 each, and definitely not the best I've had so again, slightly disappointing for the price. I had the Jack pear (light a fresh but didn't really feel like a tequila drink) and the Wrecking ball No. 3 (this one was actually delicious, lightly sweet and very pineapple-y). Overall, we definitely enjoyed ourselves and the food was good-I would not say outstanding. We wouldn't come back unless a friend was very passionate about the place-mainly because of the quality for the high price tag. read more

Go to your bar, make a drink and prepare to read a true review of Yo Nashi. After reading the mixed reviews on food quantity I had some doubts but I am here to tell you there is no shortage in quantity of food. Perhaps if you sit at Cracker Barrel and eat their large chicken fried steak weekly you could leave Yo Nashi hungry. However, it was 10 portions served with the utmost attention to detail and flavor. Chef Mack was a great guy. I asked a ton of questions as I think all people who love food should. He mentioned he had worked at Commanders and it showed. I can't say enough how his attention to detail made the meal extravagant. As we left I told him it was in my Top 10 meals ever and that is not an exaggeration. Their prefix menu was $89 which I must admit I thought was high but now I'm ready to go back! They offered A5 Wagyu beef as an additional option but we backed out on that. Now to the actual meal. Amber was gracious enough to write it all down for me so I could include it in this review. I had noticed numerous posts without a description. So here goes...... 1) fresh oysters with satsuma mignonette 2)Poached Shrimp with grilled green onion sauce 3)Seared scallops over cauliflower purée Nigiri servings: 4)Salmon w/ sesame ponzu 5)seared halibut w/ black garlic and miso 6))Spicy tuna.....OMG. The best!!!!!!! (I had an extra) 7)Tuna w/ foie Gras and truffle 8)Jumbo lump blue crab roll (two pieces) 9)Pan seared redfish w/sweet potato chestnut mushrooms, lobster beurre Blanc 10) Chocolate trio w/expresso meringue and hazelnut crumble So yeah, tons of food. All crafted and served with perfection. Truly a great dining experience that I will treasure until my next visit. I'll let the pictures help seal the deal. Don't hesitate to add this place to your list of dining adventures in NOLA. In a city with 100's of incredible options this will be in your top tier. Cheers! read more

My family and I dined at Yo Nashi this month. Having very experienced sushi eaters in the family and two of us having eaten at two different Michelin Star restaurants, our expectations are always high. To set expectations, we recently dined at Minamo Haldenstrasse 10, Lucerne, 6002, Switzerland. The Omakase experience (The phrase omakase, literally 'I leave it up to you') at Minamo was beyond exceptional. The chef and the maître d' were engaging, professional, knowable and helpful. The sushi bar was set up in a way that we could see the preparation as if we were part of the kitchen. Each dish was explained in detail and presented as if it was a one-of-a-kind work of art. You can watch, for example, various nigiri being prepared before your very eyes - the chef will gladly expound on his work and philosophy. . To compare that experience to Yo Nashi: . Yo Nashi The food was above average and somewhat uniquely presented (see attached images). The sushi bar was too high to see the prep work and created a less than inclusive experience. The maître d' was not engaging and seemed uninterested in walking us through the experience. During our visit we asked the maître d' two or three questions and found him inattentive and ultimately not interested in elevating the experience. Behind the bar we assumed one chef and two cooks (none of which introduced themselves or their role at the restaurant). Each chef/cook wore a different uniform, and one was not dress as a chef or a cook... more in street clothes. The staff talked among themselves as if we were not 2 or three feet apart. To simplify my review, see below: Food: above average Staff: below average Experience: missed the mark Value/Cost: not worth the money I think with proper management the restaurant could easily elevate the experience which might then warrant the price. I'll look for other omakase restaurants in the future. read more

It is easy to miss this spot - we walked right by the front. The inside is small and everyone sits at the sushi bar. We liked Yo Nashi and the Omakase concept. For $89 you receive what they call 10 courses. But you will not leave really full. They consider 5 of the courses to be one plate with 5 pieces of nigiri / sushi. All of the courses are beautifully presented. The flavor and freshness of the fish is excellent. They offered a $50 add on for 4 ounces of rare Wagyu steak and it was so buttery and soft, it almost melts in your mouth. The last course is a dessert pound cake and it was bland and dry. How about some fruit gyozas or even mochi? Our bill was $266 and included the above, a glass of wine and a Coke. I doubt we will be back as the expense doesn't justify this meal. And to leave with that dry pound cake taste was awful. I ate a piece of candy in my purse just to get rid of it. Everyone was friendly but there is minimal interaction with the sushi chefs. read more

Yo Nashi is in the lead for our favorite New Orleans restaurant. And that is saying something considering I don't really like sushi. You get to choose one or two things at Yo Nashi. For me, it was my drink and my entrée. We've been 3 times and each time, I have subbed out fish entrée for wagyu beef. So delicious. I cannot remember the number of courses, but it's around 6 or 7. You have the option to add a few pieces of sashimi during the nigiri course (I apologize if I'm not using the terminology correctly). I left full but not stuffed. The food is dynamite. From start to finish, there are no weaknesses in this omakase feeding frenzy. Each dish has the chance to be a favorite. Sometimes, it's a sashimi. Once it was my wagyu steak. Everything is so good, every course is a contender. Last night was our most recent night out to Yo Nashi. Our server was a little weak. Our drinks went dry towards the end, and we were not offered another round. He also did not come by and offer another round of nigiri. It was Saturday, maybe they needed to move us in and out. Hard to know, but I suspect it was the waiter. Overall though, the staff is friendly and well informed on the fare. We will definitely repeat. Love this place. read more

Reserved a spot 2 weeks in advance here for my birthday dinner and I was very fascinated from start to finish of the courses. I love dressing up and this is one of those places where I have an excuse to do so. The service was top notch. I enjoyed the experience of not knowing what the courses had in store until ready to devour and that the chefs would take care of me, an exciting surprise! The atmosphere was dim, but still well lit (like Batman walking from the shadows and suddenly you see everything around you), intimate for me and my partner, and not too cold/hot (the perfect room temperature). They didn't have the cocktails we wanted; You're Pretty and Oishii, so we had the Virga and Wrecking Ball. I enjoyed mine, but hers was a bit too bitter for her liking. I was so ashamed of myself each time they served us and told us what we were about to consume for I could only remember parts of what was described and the other time I was admiring the presentation (at least the ones that weren't just a single sushi roll). This is what I remember off the top of my head from start to finish: Salad Pickled Radish Kimchi seared Tuna with vinegrate paste? Speckled Trout Tuna Roll Glazed Salmon Butterscotch Wagyu (costs extra, but worth) Fall Spice Cake with White Chocolate Mousse and a few specks of pomegranate (even the smallest bites left a impactful taste) They do give you the option of eating the same sushi course again. I left here not full to the wall, but a perfect amount where I'm satisfied and I don't have the capacity for food as I once did. This is one of those places I would go for an occasion, meaning I would like to go back again for a different variety course. It's not that I didn't enjoy today's course, but I love trying new things, broaden my horizons! read more

It was okay. I think it comes to expectations as I should have read about what to expect and maybe I would have liked it more? The food was good but the tasting menu has a cooked fish main course, not sushi. They did offer a wagyu upgrade for $50 more but that didn't make sense because the difference in price on the menu was only $30. The portions were very small. The a la cart menu is also small, and they make you feel bad for ordering off of it instead of doing the tasting. They also seemed very stressed in general about keeping up with the orders. Just as an FYI, they do not give you soy sauce - we really wanted some but were too embarrassed to ask and you could feel that you would be shamed for asking. Overall the sushi was good (hence the 4 stars), but the experience as a whole was meh. read more

I would have another meal here. So I rate it 3/5, truer review probably 3.5/5. I think this restaurant misrepresents it's "omakase." This is more of a tasting menu with sushi, rather than an omakase. This is because you are seated at a bar. But you cannot see anything at the bar. You do not see the chefs preparing food, although they do it right behind the counter. 5 nigiri, 1 mini sushi bowl, and the rest is warm dishes + dessert. I did enjoy both cooked fish dishes quite well. The sauces were very delicious and the fish cooked well. I did not enjoy one of the courses at all, due to the salt level. The miso soup extremely salty. Mentioned to chef and was not acknowledged, though he did give the reasoning fore the aggressive seasoning of the dish. "Pieces of tofu is meant to cut down on the saltiness." I don't know about you, but I've never had 3 small pieces of tofu make a soup less salty. I've been comped prior for a disliked dish, no mention of it here. I did a lot of research in terms of the omakase available in Nola. What I came up with was Daiwa and Yakuza House for true omakase, they are also double the price. read more
