There are 14 or more trails and they seem to create a loop. We hiked 3 miles and called it a day. The trails sometimes needed better signage. I liked the vast amount of picnic areas. This park is well off the main steers creating a quiet place to enjoy. I mean, I heard speed boats during our hike, but that didn't spoil my solitude.

My daughters have been involved with BCGA's girls AAU Xcel team for 5 years and after the second…read moreyear it became a revolving door of coaches, so the girls on the team haven't had any stability in the realm of coaching for the last 3 seasons. Well, this year the coaches they brought in hit an all-time low, to the point they sucked all of the love of the sport out of my daughter that has loved doing gymnastics with her teammates for years now. I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. Our daughter and the rest of the team were told that they needed to come up with their own beam routines, while the coaches didn't even make sure all the skills that they needed for the event were in their routines. Many of the girls completely bombed the beam event at their first meet (which was at BCGA), then the coaches got angry at the team for not doing well at the event. The two female coaches they had this year consistently looked for any excuse they could find to cancel practice, when practice wasn't cancelled, they didn't work on developing or fine-tuning the girls' skills instead they worked on breaking down the girls' spirits by calling them pathetic and getting in their faces at the drop of a hat. The one male coach the team had was the best at developing the girls' skills, but he thought it was appropriate talk to them about their periods and had other inappropriate behaviors. He was removed from the gym after an incident with another team, so that it the caliber of people that this organization feels is okay to hire to train your kids. If you want your girls to enjoy gymnastics, then find another gym. My daughters have both quit gymnastics now and it is in no small part due to the way this gym is being run. Again, I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. So, after getting tired of my daughter being upset to the point of tears after 90% of her practices, I addressed the coaches myself. I will admit that I could've been more tactful when I approached the coaches, but here is what I said to the team's "head coach." I said, "Since you want to talk about the team being pathetic in front of the girls, you should know that the performance of the team is a reflection of their coaches," I then said, "You're a shit coach." After that the other coach scoffed and I left the gym. They then kicked my daughter off the team because of me addressing the coaches, and they said she was lying about everything despite several of the other girls talking with her on the phone about the things the coaches have been saying to them and how it's making them feel. I do wish I would've approached this situation differently, but due to an overwhelming amount of frustration at both the coaches and senior staff of BCGA, I addressed the problem that they were not handling. This organization does not care about the well-being of your girls or even that they are developing their gymnastics skills, all of that went out the door a long time ago. Your AAU girls are just numbers and paychecks for this place. This is not to say anything against Bart Conner himself, because he is not involved with most of the day-to-day work going on at the gym. The few interactions I have had with him have been pleasant and he seems like a very down-to-earth kind of guy. However, the people running the gym are dragging his name through the mud.

The other YMCAs that I have been to typically have a child area for younger child, but nothing for the older kids. I've been bringing my son since he was 5 (he's now 9) and there is plenty for him to do, they have tvs, computers, ping pong, basketball, and a spot to hang out. I feel very comfortable bringing him here! The exercise equipment is also great, they are consistently bringing in newer machines and have a large selection of weight machines as well as free weights. I have attended several classes that they offer also. Set and Reps, which is every Wednesday evening is like a full boot camp workout. It is amazing! The pool area is also pretty awesome, they have three different areas, a lap pool, and family pool with water slide and a wading area for the younger kids, complete with sprayground equiptment!

I went in for my appointment (where I was told I had to show an ID, but we clearly never even got that far), told them my name and that I was there for a 4:30 appointment. The two ladies at the front of the 3-ring circus told me that I did not have an appointment, and there was no opening for a child my age at all. As frustrating as that was, the lady explained to me further that she was the new director and didn't even know how the system worked. After speaking with another lady there was something mentioned about a child that left that went a few days a week, but nothing was ever asked about when or how often my child would need care before I was turned away again. I was eventually offered a tour while I was there, but after seeing how un-organized and poorly managed it was, decided I did not want to take my child there. In fact, their own website states that parents and children may wait in the lobby. Today, on one of the hottest days of the year during an Oklahoma heat advisory, my young daughter and her elderly grandmother were told they could not remain inside while waiting for their ride and were instructed to wait outside instead. This was not only inconsistent with the academy's published policy but also showed a concerning lack of judgment and concern for the safety and well-being of families. If the policy has changed, it should be clearly communicated in advance and reflected on the website. Instead, my family was unexpectedly forced outside into dangerous heat. This experience has left us extremely disappointed. A performing arts academy should prioritize the safety of its students and their families. Because of how this situation was handled, I can no longer recommend ArtWorks Academy to others, and we will not be returning. The instructors were always extremely nice and my daughter did enjoy going there. She will miss it but it is hurtful that they would force them in the heat on the first notice. I can understand a policy change or perhaps security/safety concerns but she had been waiting in the lobby this entire time without issue. They could have handled the situation better.

However, the owner also asked me to remove my reviews because the refund had been issued. I respectfully declined. My goal was never to obtain a refund. A refund was simply the appropriate outcome for services that would no longer be provided. My goal has always been to make other families aware of my factual experience so they can make their own informed decision. Throughout our correspondence, the owner confirmed that my mother was asked to leave the building. To me, that is the heart of the issue. Once an elderly grandmother and a young child are asked to leave by someone in authority, they are naturally going to leave. The better response would have been to first ask simple questions such as, "Is your ride on the way?" or "Can we help while you wait?" The owner also acknowledged that Sofia told staff "Papa Carlos was on his way to pick them up," meaning they knew transportation had not yet arrived. Rather than taking a moment to understand the situation and find a safe solution, the decision was made to ask them to leave. The owner also stated that the wording of the camp policy on the website will be clarified, which I believe acknowledges that it was not as clear as it should have been. What disappointed me most was not the policy itself, but the lack of empathy afterward. A simple acknowledgment that this was a misunderstanding and an apology for the distress it caused my family would likely have resolved this very differently. Instead, every response focused on defending and justifying the actions taken. My review reflects my family's honest experience. I have updated it to include that the unused camp fees were refunded, but my opinion of how this situation was handled has not changed. I believe other parents deserve to know about my experience and decide for themselves. This was my daughter's second (non-consecutive) year attending camp, and she was already in her third week this summer. My parents help us with pickup because both of my children finish camp at the same time in different locations. My mother waits with my daughter until my father picks up my son and then comes to get her. This arrangement had never been questioned before. Today, during an Extreme Heat Warning in Oklahoma, my elderly mother and my young daughter were told they could not remain in the air-conditioned lobby while waiting a short time for my father to arrive. I later received an email stating that parents and guardians are not permitted to sit in the lobby for any part of camp. However, after reviewing ArtWorks Academy's own website, I found their published policy states: "Parents and siblings are asked to wait in our lobby... You are welcome to bring your laptop and take advantage of the wireless internet connection at our facility." I also searched every email I have received and could not find the "Sunday email" that was referenced. My concern is not simply about a policy. If procedures had changed, a simple phone call or conversation would have resolved the situation. Instead, during dangerous heat conditions, my family was told they could not remain inside despite the academy's own published policy stating parents are asked to wait in the lobby. That demonstrated a lack of communication, consistency, and judgment. As a parent, those qualities are essential when deciding who to trust with your child. As a result of this experience, I immediately withdrew my daughter from all remaining camps. I will never send my child back to ArtWorks Academy, nor can I recommend this program to other families. Based on how this situation was handled, I no longer have confidence that my child would be in an environment where sound judgment and her well-being are prioritized.
