3.5 stars. I love…read moreEritrean/Ethiopian food, so when I heard that there is an Eritrean restaurant in HD, I had to tried. The ambience is nice. There were African decorations throughout the place and African-themed paintings on some walls, and the orange walls give the place a warm feel. Definitely suitable for groups of friends or for a date. Unfortunately, the service was very spotty. We often had to wait (to get menu, to order, to pay), and I notice the server (possibly owner?) was just taking care of bigger dining groups before coming to us. Then whenever we got his attention, it was short-lived, but on a slightly better note, he did apologize for the delay. We ordered a 4-dish vegetarian platter with mushrooms (Kantischa), spinach (Hamli Spinat), red lentils (Tumtumo Brsen), and potato curry (Alicha) as well as Kulwa Berai (sautéed beef with peppers and onions in a tomato-based sauce), both served with injera. The vegetarian platter was all good and tasty, but I was hoping for more flavors with the beef dish. I would probably go back on a less busy day.

Loved the ambience and the service. The servers were very friendly, telling us both how to eat the…read morefood, and let them know if the food was too spicy/too bland. They did forget one dish, but apologized profusely, and gave us the dish. The food was nice too (but that depends heavily on your taste). The dried pumpkin tumblers were a very nice touch!

As a world traveller, I love different ethnic cuisines. Ethiopian is in my top three. As a native…read moreFrankfurter, I love exploring my birth city's restaurants. Therefore, I discovered this hidden treasure years ago. (Before that I tried a couple of other similar venues in the city and was disappointed.) I first learned about Ethiopian food in Atlanta, GA in the early 80's while attending university. Good versions and bad versions. Since then I have experiences both in diverse places such as Boston, NYC, St.Paul (MN), Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Houston, Paris (F), Rome (I), Berlin (D), and some cities I don't remember. Lalibela in Frankfurt is one on the top 5 restaurants. The food is authentic and flavorful. Both veggie and meat dishes. (Many times only the meats are spicy and the veggies are bland.) Plus the owners are a true delight. Friendly, cheerful, they showcase their culture. We were just back yesterday with my best friend from college in Atlanta. She has been living in Hamburg for decades. I had not seen her for over 30 years. She came to Frankfurt to meet up with us while we were in Germany. I offered her several different cuisine options and she wanted Ethiopian. She loved all of it. Nostalgic flavors. Authentic smells. Plus the amazing hosts! We will always call me back.

A google search gave us LaLiBeLa Ethiopian food. None of us had ever tried that before so decided to give it a go. The place is very clean and comfortable. The owner was serving us and she was one of the nicest people you could ever ask to meet. One of us has very specific dietary needs and she went out of her way to make something that fit the bill. She succeeded! If you're in Frankfurt and want to try something different and delicious, you won't be disappointed if you give LaLiBeLa a try!
