I'm not quite sure what to think of Yellow Shop. Basically speaking, it's a shop that sells odds and ends, but not the typical knick-knacks of a, well, knick-knack shop... I'm not explaining this very well. What I'm trying to say is that this is a little shop that sells various small knick-knacks, but not arty or household-y things. Just, you know, useful little bits and pieces. I thought I'd ask the owner why he sold this sort of thing, but thought better of it... I don't they get much business. To be fair, I've never been back again, I mean, why go out of my way for cigarette tins, or batteries, or watches?
The selection here is more bizarre than most. I understand that it's perfectly normal to have neighbourhood shops selling a variety of knick-knacks, but they're normally based around household goods, something you might need in your daily routine that you've misplaced and need to pop out and quickly grab. I'd have thought big supermarkets would have made such little odds and ends shops obsolete, but apparently not: Yellow Shop is still here.
In the end, I didn't buy anything, and I'm not sure what I would've done anyway. Batteries? Can openers? Whisks? Local chain supermarket. Ditto for lighters and the like, I can't think of needing or wanting a cigarette case, nor any of the random little toys... Who wants this sort of stuff. The use of the earlier stuff makes sense to me, but then the other stuff throws me off again... I don't know what to make of Yellow Shop, it's just confused the heck out of me. My advice, if you know and need something it has, go, if you don't, maybe you need a new fork (??), so why not go? read more
