I had no idea there are so many kinds of tropical fruit trees that do well in Hawaii. We came home with some new trees/bushes that will provide us with berries throughout the year. We also got a good sized ulu, a breadfruit tree. We're looking forward to enjoying the fruits soon! The hours are limited so be sure to know before you go. I know there is another Native Hawaiian Nursery upcountry but I figured that Haiku is at a lower elevation and that the plants would fair better when I transplant them in Kihei. The nursery had all the plants I was looking for and the service was great. One of the employees approached me as a got out of the car and showed me where to find the plants I was looking for. They had Ko'oloa 'ula, ma'iapilo, ma'o, and nanu which were the plants I was looking for. The ma'iapilo was a very small plant, but the guy explained that it was a little difficult to grow in Haiku and that it should fair better in Kihei. The experience was an overall good one but it would be nice if they had a website with the plants they sell.

(where the Waipuna Chapel is on the corner) - left at Lower Kula Rd (it is a T end so you can only turn left or right) - left at 1st paved culdesac (new gray concrete road with no street sign). - drive all the way down and on the left side, down an unpaved path, is 3rd Day Nursery. There is a tree and a built up kerb for you to drive onto the property. - park at the top on the grass (do not park in culdesac) - say hello to the 2 boxer dogs who will give you a friendly welcome Derek and his staff are full of info, his plants are cheaper than the big box stores and nurseries, you can buy pre arranged pots for a gift, bulk buy for your garden, even join in a class to make an arrangement which is soooo much fun. If you live out in the country in Haiku, it's very convenient not to have to drive all the way into town. They have really good selection of garden supplies for organic gardening. The staff today were very friendly and helpful and loaded the stuff into my car for me. It's nothing glamorous, as the store is located in an old refurbished pineapple Cannery. So there's a lot of history here which makes it kind of interesting. People in Haiku really like to grow things, so tise store is very convenient and helpful for the community.
