I have a Specialize Allez that started popping spokes last spring. I took it to the Trailhouse for…read morerepair, and they suggested relacing. I'm okay with that, so I had them do the work. Here's my first complaint: When you drop something off for repair, they give you a card with their repair shop's number and YOU are expected to call them to see if the work's done. They don't really give you a solid estimate on WHEN it will be done, just something along the lines of, "Try in about a week". They will NEVER call you, even though they have your phone number, to inform you that the work is complete. Moving along, after two and a half weeks and me calling at least four times, they FINALLY had my wheel ready. I went in and picked it up. Of course, they didn't match the spoke wire (black) to the wire on the front wheel, but I suppose I can live with that. Also, the price wasn't terrible: $60 for parts and labor; $1/spoke wire, $1/spoke installation. However, I noticed when I got the bike home and took it for a test spin, the rear wheel was slightly out of true. Not bad, but I really thought they should have done a better job with it. I left it and rode through the summer, though not as much as I should have, putting only about 500 miles on it on the road. I put less than 250 on it this winter on a trainer. Fast forward to four weeks ago. I took the bike out and rode about 30 miles. On the way home, I heard ANOTHER spoke pop. Took it in to the Trailhouse again and asked if they could replace that spoke, re-true the wheel, and make sure everything else was ok. Finally, today, after about three weeks, (I STILL haven't received a call to let me know they're done with my wheel, mind you) I called them to see if the work was done. They told me it was and I could swing by and grab it any time. So, less than 10 minutes later, I stroll into the Tarkio shop (not in Winona Lake) and there's a bike mechanic PUTTING MY CASSETTE BACK ON. He told me they had to remove the cassette to put the new wire on. Totally understandable. But WHY is it just now being replaced?!?!?!? They had the thing for THREE WEEKS! Anyway, he finishes mounting the cassette, and gives the wheel a spin to see if it's true. He checked it BY EYE. While holding it IN HIS HANDS. It wasn't mounted on a frame and checked with an indicator. HE CHECKED MY ROAD BIKE WHEEL FOR TRUE BY EYE. I didn't say anything, assuming he MUST have checked it before he put the cassette on. Until I got it home... I mounted the wheel on my bike and gave it a quick spin, with the rear brake caliper open to remove/install the wheel...AND THE WHEEL STOPPED DEAD AFTER A QUARTER REVOLUTION. It was rubbing the brake pad on one side. With the caliper open. So, I pulled it past the sticking point and spun it again...and it stopped dead after another quarter revolution ON THE OTHER BRAKE PAD. So, I readjusted the centering on my brake caliper, closed it down, and tried again. Same results. My wheel is now nearly a quarter inch out of true. I'm going to take the bike in tomorrow to have them re-true that wheel. If they won't do it for free, considering it should have been done when they replaced the spoke, and if they won't do it right then, they will lose my business forever. And I'll recommend NO ONE every shop their again. It's ridiculous that 15 minutes of work, maximum, takes them three weeks, that they can't bother to actually DO the necessary work, AND that they can't be bother to call their customers when the work is finished. Who does business that way?

This place would have had a 5 star review before November when you could rent a cruiser for $5, but…read morenew ownership has put the cheapest bike rental up from $5 to $20!! Over 400% increase! That is insane. I would come up here about 10 times a year for only $50 now that would cost me $200 and I could buy a bike for that price. Jeers to the new owner making a profit on all of the locals and exploiting a local vacation spot for nearby out of towners. You will definitely see a decline of rentals. I know we will not be renting anymore from here. Absolutely absurd.
