Quite a few steps up from street level although there is a stair lift for those who can't manage them. A couple of steps down to the toilets too. A spacious interior with plenty of places to sit and a pleasant bar staff. The toilets were clean and everything looked after well. The food was up to the usual high standard and a good range of drinks on offer, including Guinness, John Smiths, Ruddles, lagers and wine (the house wine is a delicious Merlot). The nearest car park is only a few paces away (Tiverton Place). All in all, a very welcome pub to visit when in Abergavenny and one we'll revisit.

Inside there are a lot of places to sit and apart from a Tuesday which is market day,you can usually find a table pretty much straightaway. They do the usual meal deals and some local specials like welsh faggots and mash which is my favourite!! The only down points are that staff do not clear the tables quick enough,so you often have to do this yourself and queues are fairly long at the bar. Plus points are that the foods very reasonable, meals are always hot,the beers nice and toilets clean!!

It's not the kind of place that I'd go to before a night out, for example, but if you fancy catching up with friends over a drink, it's great. The food was good for pub-type food, though it wasn't spectacular. However, it is good whole hearty food that doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is. Again, it's a Brains pub - you can't really get away from them in Cardiff - so if you're a fan of that, this is obviously the place for you. The service is good, though it's not incredible; but I always come away feeling happy overall.

It can be a great place to grab a pint if you've walked over the mountain from the other side before heading down towards civilisation. It is really popular on Christmas Eve and normally sells tickets for entry, so you'd have to book in advance to avoid disappointment. It's a family friendly pub with large oak tables for groups to have some pub grub and talk about nothing much whatsoever. There are two bars but the second is generally only opened on busy days like during the summer holidays. On a hot summer day the pub opens up and can become quite popular with loads of outdoor seating available and a huge field and play park for the kids to run off the sugar from all that lemonade you regret giving them.

The staff are wonderful too. Not being a beer drinker myself, my Dad has said that they serve the best Bass bitter around. Their food is top notch. I could easily recommend everything on the menu! The steaks put dedicated steak houses to shame and the lasagne is delicious. Even 'simpler' dishes like ham egg and chips are wonderful. Parking isn't usually a problem as there is a small cobbled car park opposite and parking in teh surrounding sides streets. Best to book ahead and check their opening hours to avoid disappointment.
