Fields, woods, a river and streams surround the pub, which has its own gardens and terrace seating, where you can eat and drink al fresco. The pub is Family-run and the main personality is the landlady, Sue, whose enthusiasm and high service ethic has rubbed off on all her young staff. A good menu offers local produce, supplemented by 3 or 4 daily specials; chef will endeavour to cook your special requirements where possible. There is a sensibly-priced wine list with many wines available by the glass. An altogether most agreeable and recommended destination.

The Sportsman pub in Peterston, is a lovely pretty little pub bin an idyllic country village (the drive down really is beautiful). Even better (in my opinion) is that's rather upmarket, so you never have to worry about it getting rowdy, plus kids are most welcome. They also serve some really nice food; the main courses cost between £8-10 and a lot of care is put into preparing the food (unlike many pubs). I'd highly recommend this place!

I have often gone from one to the other should the one be too busy / too quiet. They are both great over spill pubs for rugby internationals and they both attempt to accommodate the burgeoning drinking population come international rugby days. I have had food at The Cayo and it was passable if you are enjoying your time their but can't be bothered to go elsewhere for a special meal. So match days its a fun happy welcome all. Week days it tends to be a different animal with quite a cliquey regular crowd - or that was my feel. Not that the staff change attitudes they remain friendly whatever the day.

Selling real ales with good cheap food and a warm welcome, they can't really do much wrong by me. A fiver for a freshly made sandwich and a pint at lunch time is perfect. It may look a bit like an old man's pub, and maybe the crowd is slightly older but you aren't made to feel like an outsider and the staff are usually quite chatty. Its also got a nice outside space which made me late back to work on many occasions and a Pub Quiz most Sunday's. Upstairs they have a Bed and Breakfast, and while I've never stayed it would be a great choice for proximity to the Cricket grounds and the rest of town.

I'm not sure where the previous reviewer visited - there's no such place as Cefn village, it's Michaelston-y-fedw village. Being born and raised in the area I have been to this pub many, many times during my life and I'm sorry to say that it has deteriorated over the last decade or so. In my youth this was a wonderful village pub, with no allusions of being anything more. It's where the locals could get a pint, a chat and traditional pub grub (scampi, cod and chips, ale pie, etc). Quick, wholesome and tasty meals. Since coming under new management it seems to be heading further and further away from being the heart of the village to being a peusdo gastro-pub, punching way above its weight as it fails to deliver what it promises. Bring back the old Cefn with it's spit and sawdust style I say!

I've been here a hell of a lot and so a think it's about time I wrote a review…read more First off, it is what it is. A chain pub offering low cost, pretty nice tasting food. Between me and my family we've tried most of the items on the menu - which does change on a pretty regular basis which is nice. We've been going here since we moved to the area four or five years ago. It's good for kids and cheap to eat out. It's had a refurb since we started going there and is still in pretty good shape. There are TVs with Sky Sports on and they show the main games there - if you support a lower down team beware they always show the advertised game so can change channel in the middle of your game! The food is good value for money but they do seem to try to cut corners at times. Order a "big plate special" and your meat may go up in size but if anything your chips may reduce in size - to the extent the kids meal had more chips than the big plate special. I've given proper feedback to staff and via their web site but nothing has changed. However if you complain they will bring you out extra chips. The steaks are surprisingly good, the battered fish is excellent (better even than the local chip shop) and even the pizza I had there was good. Really can't fault the quality of the food. Probably wouldn't recommend the lasagne or the kids burgers but nearly everything else we've tried has been excellent. The curries are especially good value for money. The play area inside is pretty extensive and good to entertain the kids. They didn't used to charge, then they half heartedly brought in a charge and now they are pretty strict with it. Sadly at £3 per child for ten minutes play before their food is ready is not worth it. It's made going there either more expensive or less fun as you have to argue with your kids that they can't go in. Shame, it used to make us stay longer, spend more money on food and drink while the kids were entertained. The beer garden is very close to a busy road and is just benches outside. Not bad but not great. Yatton and surrounding area has pubs with great beer gardens so this is not the place for you if that's what you're looking for. Service wise it can be patchy, they seem to go through an unbelievable amount of staff. I don't think there's a single member of staff still there from when we started going. Some are excellent and some not so but I have to say if you ever raise an issue they certainly try to help (like the chip example above) and always apologise for any issues. I certainly don't feel worried about raising any issues. If you've got young kids then I think this is a great tea time treat but maybe not the big blow out treat...
