We stopped by Ye Olde Donut Shoppe and were impressed with how fresh everything seemed. There was a good variety, though a lot of the options felt similar--mostly the same base donuts with different icings and toppings. It almost felt like there were too many choices without a clear standout focus. We grabbed a half dozen, and the glazed donut and apple fritter were definitely the highlights. Both were fresh and really enjoyable. Overall, it may not be the best donut shop we've been to, but it's solid and still above average. read more

My girlfriend & I had been longtime Pandemonium donut fans, so when it closed down, we were in the market for a new spot, and Ye Olde did not disappoint. Great donut place! Good service. We got there a little later on the morning and some varieties were gone, but loved the raspberry roll (this one was incredible!) and the glazed donuts we tried. Recommend getting there earlier in the morning if you're going on the weekend. There were a few tables inside for seating, but definitely more of a pickup and go kind of shop. read more

There indeed was a shock. But a shock of sight and smell was surpassed by taste and oh my...were they toothsome! I went traditional and the donut was perfectly cooked with a slightly and pleasantly crisped outer ridge. The glaze was not overly sweet and applied adroitly with just the perfect amount. The core was soft but not mushy, tasty but not too sweet and although pledged to eat a quarter (due to my haystack figure) found myself mirthfully downing the whole thing! Come one and come all! On a recent trip to the Champaign area, I noticed Ye Olde Donut Shoppe was at the top of the list. I love old-school donut shops, so I really wanted to like this place. These are everything donuts should be. Dense, the right amount of sweetness and a perfect texture. I stopped in here on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and found everything to be very well stocked. The donut assortment was great. I bought a 1/2 dozen which included an apple fritter, rosebud (my favorite), maple square, square with chocolate frosting, cinnamon roll, and a traditional glazed donut. Staff were super friendly and helpful when I had a couple of questions. The shop is cute. I spent about $12.00 on a 1/2 dz., so definitely a splurge. I have zero complaints and this will be my #1 go-to place for donuts. Will be back soon! read more

Ye Olde Donut Shoppe often sells out early in the day so get there early. The owner was kind enough to put aside apple fritters for us on Wednesday when they were sold out on Tuesday. ye olde donut shoppe was definitely one of the best donut shops I have been to. For half a dozen it was about 12/13 dollars which in my opinion is worth the price. The service was outstanding. They were all very kind and I don't think I've ever had kinder service. If I was living in the area I would definitely be here every weekend. The ambiance was amazing as I felt like I was being treated with the utmost respect. I'm glad I was able to come here and give this place a try. (One thing I would like to see is a red velvet but that's just a personal preference as it's one of my favorite donuts). Next time I'm in area I will definitely be stopping by again. read more

This is one of the few donut shops that actually sell a variety of different donut bakes. We love their Old Fashions and Apple fritters. They have special flavors of the week which is also very good. But you gotta get there super early because they tend to run out of donuts before 11AM (sometimes earlier) which is a good problem to have for the business. read more

I have not been in Champaign since 2006. I moved there with my family in 1965 and remember their original location at 1st & Green. I delivered the Courier newspaper (long since gone) in that neighborhood and as a young adolescent, it was always in the back of my head to head over and spend my tips at Ye Olde Doughnut (that's how I remember them spelling it anyway) Shoppe for an Old Fashioned Buttermilk Doughnut or a Buttermilk Bar. They were better tasting thatn any other doughnuts in all of Champaign-Urbana. I'm glad to hear they are still in business. Hopefully it is still run by family members of those who operated the establishment in the late 60's when I was a customer. read more

Been a fan since the 90's when I lived a block away in college. I appreciated they they subscribed to the KISS principle in an age of crazy donut concoctions. I also appreciated they kept prices reasonable when I picked up my weekly fix at the Farmer's Market. I was excited when I saw they were going to open up a store front again on Neil and finally got to visit this Saturday. Their simple pricing model they had at the Farmer's Market is gone. Got half a dozen donuts for $15. It comes down to the bang for buck, and the value is POOR. Got an assortment of items and all of them tasted a bit on the greasy side and the dough was more on the dry side. Maybe bad batch or the price left a bad taste in my mouth. For the same costs I could have gotten bigger donuts at Pandemonium or for 30% of the cost get the same donuts at Schnuck's. 2 stars for taste 1 star for value read more

The Ye Olde Donut Shoppe is back in full effect! They just opened up their new store front on Neil St (in the same lot as Subway & Cactus Grill). Same great taste that I have been enjoying for over 30 years. I was a big fan of their location on Mattis & Sangamon Drive in Champaign, and I am overjoyed to see their face back on a building. Now I don't have to limit my indulgences to the Farmer's Market. The parking lot isn't that big, as you will find out, but you shouldn't need that much time to walk in, select a few amazing donuts, then head back to your car. They were nearly sold out when I stopped by on Opening Day, but they still had a few that were perfect for me. Put your diet aside for a day and enjoy over 50 years (I know!!!) of Donut history! read more

The low rating is because I remember the original ye old donuts and my expectations were too high. When I walked in I was not hit with the smell of fresh baked donuts that you would be hit with from the storefront on Mattis in the 90s. This place allows me to hark back to my student years at the U of I. Ye Olde has some of the best apple fritters and chocolate cake donuts on the planet. While it is under new management, it has retained the old recipes and flavors that I enjoy. I understand that the owners are also looking for a retail space. I am glad that they are available at the Urbana Farmer's Market but I hope that they do open a storefront so I can get my donut fix on a daily basis. Highly recommended. read more

I like that they have a rotation of specialty donuts. I had the strawberry Nutella once and it was amazing. I have mixed feels about the cake donuts but I need to try a few other varieties. The doughnuts are delicious but the inconsistency is extremely frustrating! At Deralds they randomly don't have them days of the week, and for the farmers market the owner would come sporadically and when he was there, had kind of a stank attitude. If they had a better business model and friendlier customer service then they'd be the perfect doughnut place. read more
