I bought a Groupon for 4 when seeking out wine and painting. It was a gift for my dad for father's day. My family ended up using our Groupon on Saturday, Aug 24th at the hopcity tavern and market. Pros: -So many options! Groupon doesn't expire for a while, and there are tons of painting events in the Portland area, especially on weekends. Painting events are commonly in downtown Portland, up north by Vancouver at the Red Lion Hotel, in Hillsboro, and there seems to be a few in Happy Valley and Gresham. Yaymaker seems to be good about catering to people from all around town. -You know what to expect beforehand. They show photos of what you're going to be painting, so you can book the class with the painting that appeals to you. -Our painting expert was knowledgeable, fun, and extremely friendly. She provided a very positive, easy going atmosphere. She played music in between instructions and gave us plenty of time to catch up. She was happy to take photos for us. -The class length is generous: about 2 hours. Everyone at my class seemed to be able to finish. A couple cons: -No complimentary wine. The advertising is misleading. They give a note that "This event requires all attendees must be of legal drinking age". My family and came in expecting to enjoy a glass of wine too, and we thought that we had paid for it (even with the Groupon discount, this class was expensive). I would've booked a class under a different business if I had known there wouldn't be any wine. -Groupon isn't actually cheaper. They have $10 coupons all the time on their website. I wanted to have a bigger group but assumed the best price is when buying for 4 people. I wish I had known, then I possibly would've considered adding more people to my party. Overall, it was a positive experience. I'm just glad I know what to expect now! read more

I purchased a Groupon for a PaintNite class. I registered for the class (and had to pay a $10 uncharge for the class that the Groupon didn't cover). We showed up for the class and waited 30 minutes after the start time and the teacher never showed up. This was the Portland, Oregon class at the Broadway Grill location. When I emailed PaintNight for a refund, they never apologized and even told me that fees are normally not refundable but they "made an exception" and refunded only my upcharge amount. They also said I had to go through Groupon to get a refund for my voucher (which is another nightmare, but doesn't reflect on PaintNite). I cannot recommend anyone ever register for the Portland, OR class. You might not actually get a class. read more

Went to a paint night on Jan 2. The painting was a wolf. when we got there the example did not look at all like the one we signed up for. She then painted an example that also looked like a child had painted it. My 2 friends were able to get new passes for another class. My sister and I did this a couple nights ago and had a blast! First of all, the amount of options for dates, types of paintings and locations is AMAZING! I also got to spin a little wheel when visiting their website which gave me 40% off! Our $95 bill went down to $50 something! Wow! The event was hosted by Kacie and she was super fun and friendly, plus very easy to follow. The event was at a great venue but my experience eating there prior to the event was horrible (I have a separate review for that). I'll definitely be doing Paint Nite again!! read more

Paint Nite was so much fun! It's normally $45, but we had a Groupon for it for $25. They're also offering a $20 off offer on this Yelp page, and when you attend you get a $20 coupon for the next time. Paint Nite is held at a different place each time. Ours was at The Station. Our venue was perfect for the event and spacious. PN does not include food or drinks, but our venue had a great Happy Hour going on. Our instructor, Katrina Zarate, was excellent, engaging and funny, as well as the assistant, Andrea. Like Katrina explained, Paint Nite is more of a "painting party" than a "painting class." Basic ideas and painting advice is given and they go around helping you if needed, but this is a very free painting experience. Don't expect to come out the next Picasso, but do expect to have a ton of fun! And like our instructor said, "The more you drink, the better the painting will look!" All of our paintings came out fantastic (in my opinion, of course), and we all had a blast doing it. Your supplies, canvas and apron are all included. You paint the painting step by step in phases. Everything is explained. It can be easy to fall behind, so to speak, especially if you're busy drinking wine or conversing with friends. The instructors need to move things along, so you may be behind everyone else. Don't worry! Just go at your own pace, and take your time, you can still paint after the event is over. It is a blast and I would highly recommend it to anyone! They also take photos and post them on Facebook after. Arrive early to save your seats, especially if you're in a larger group. Also, the event nights fill up FAST so expect to reserve a few weeks to a month before an event. There are paintings for everyone. so you will definitely find one that you like. Paint Nite is a great, different, event to be able to attend with a friend. This event came with ups and downs. The direction is helpful, though with such large groups it is hard to get any one on one advise without it being rushed. This is something I may do once more with a different friend, but for the 'discounted' groupon price of $25 a person, before drinks, food, etc - I am tempted to go to the paint supply store and purchase my primary colors and a pad of paper as I cannot afford to spend $50+ each time I feel like being creative with paints. I did have a blast, the painting makes me smile everyday at work where it is hanging and it reminded me how much I like making art. read more

My best friend took me here as a gift. I didn't know what to expect because I've never painted before and we were about to drink wine and paint some snowflakes (the art choice for the night) I had such an amazing first experience, the staff hosting the event was so nice and made sure everyone was doing well and we messed up on our painting but the lady gave us advice and showed us brush stroke techniques on how to fix it. It was such a great time, they teach you everything step by step. They play fun upbeat music that gets the whole class pumped to have a good time, definitely a relaxing stress free night. After that night I ended up going to a craft store and purchasing painting supplies! That's how much I enjoyed it! Also they offer different paintings for each day and deals on Groupon. Saturday was my first time doing a virtual Paint Nite and while I've been to four in person sessions, this was a disaster, people were talking unmuted cursing, the video went in out, and the instructions not really clear and went way to fast. So I attempted the record the session which would not work as the ZOOM kept giving me an auto message that recordings had to be approved. So I asked the host artist and was told that she is recording it and I would get a copy of the link to complete the project later and at my own pace, without all the distractions. Well since then I've emailed hello@yaymaker.com 4 times, and every time they send back an automessage that starts off "Hello There, This is an automated email and we know those are kind of the worst but please read on." Then time I was told to contact connie.psomas@localyaymaker.com and after several attempts got a response from her saying that I must contact Yaymaker, as the instructors did not know recordings were not allowed, now I have a half done painting and requesting another voucher to start to completion another painting or give me my money back. My friend had been raving about Paint Nite for quite some time now. She only had good things to say. For her birthday this year, she wanted to go to Paint Nite which is where we were earlier this evening. Today's event was held at the Lotus Cardroom and Cafe downtown. We walked in to the bar to around 6 to locate our seats. All the seats were set up with blank canvases on easels, plate of paint, paint brushes and cups of water. Aprons are provided to wear to protect your outfits. The event started promptly at 6:30. Our instructor today was Tiger (coolest ever) and her assistant. Tiger was laid back, funny, friendly and most of all AWESOME. Tiger did a great job explaining the techniques of using the paint brushes. I attempted to paint the way Tiger was painting but it was impossible. It was obvious she probably paints as hobby and it was my first time ever painting. I was never the artistic type. I ended up adding my own personality to it and that's the best part. There is no 2 painting ever alike. I honestly think that my painting is very unique. The painting was basically a sunrise, with a heart tree on the right side and the sun coming up. This sums up paradise/Maui for me. The name of the painting is a Sunset Heart. You can order drinks/food at the bar while painting. Music is played throughout the entire session. If you need more paint, raise your have and someone will assist. Towards the end, Tiger's assistant will go around to each group to take photos for their FB page. Also on the way out, more photos are taken as well with the finished product. There was definitely more females than males which is expected. Tiger's famous quote for the evening was "there are no mistakes, just happy accidents". This is so true. You can always use paint to cover it up. Paint Nite is typically $45 a person but with groupons emails and Yelp there's always a chance to save some $$. Overall? I had a fantastic time tonight. The atmosphere is super relaxed and fun. I would return again for more paintings. If you are feeling artistic or want to try something new with friends sign up for Paint Nite. Grab a brush, paint and paint away. Allow your mind to wonder with color. Leave your personal belongings at home otherwise there's a chance of paint getting on them. I had been wanting to go to one of these events for awhile and finally got a group together to go last night. It was a blast! Paint nite is an event that you could go to alone, with friends or even with your mom. I paid $25 on Groupon which includes the paint supplies and a teacher. Jess was our paint instructor. She was very energetic and entertaining. I have never painted before and I am not an artist but somehow my painting turned out decent so Jess must be a great teacher! So going to this event and having experience doing painting events at other companies, was sadly disappointed when we were provided one med size brush and napkins to complete the canvas. Not only did the napkins leave pieces in the art work! But the brush provided was to large for detailing the piece. It was highly disappointing! read more

I LOVE Paint Nite! They do a great job teaching the class so that everyone from all skill levels can follow along (or move forward on their own). My husband went with me the first time we went 1 year ago and he assumed he would walk out of there with a stick figure painting. Not so!! His turned out amazing and so did mine. We have attended several more events in the past year and would HIGHLY recommend! I have gone to a different, local company's own version of "paint nite" and can say they PALE in comparison.
