The prices are towards the high end for Darlington but I pay them gladly for the quality of the produce and the service. I admit that this place will not to be some peoples taste but If you appreciate fine ale or wines then you should give the place a try. The average age of the clientele maybe around 50 but I've never felt out of place and am always afforded friendly service. Also the food here is usually very nice. The traditional beef sandwich and chips is delicious. The only reason I do not give 5 stars is that on Friday and Saturday evening the place is packed like a sardine tin and can attract a few pretentious idiots that seem to have given the place a bit of a reputation. For this reason I only use 22s as my mid-week haunt.

We ordered drinks and waited about 10 minutes for them to arrive which is a lot for a latte and a pot of tea. The staff were talking at the bar about how hungover they were from a party the night before, this would have bothered me at all if the service had been good. My sister and I both ordered scrambled eggs on brown and my mum had a sausage sandwich. It was tasty, nothing mind blowing but it was good. We weren't offered sauces or any more drinks which was a bit frustrating. Another negative for me was that a couple came in at about 11.35 and they wanted breakfast but the staff informed them they stop breakfast at 11.30. I would of understood if they were rushed off there feet but I think they could of whipped together some eggs for them. My review probably makes this place sounds worse than it is, overall I do like this it but I felt the service let them down on this occasion. It was good value and tasty so I would go back for breakfast and it is a good venue for evening drinks.

I drink Guinness and this bar serves it in chilled from the fridge glasses at a cost of only £2.20 a pint!!!!! (March 2014) Seriously this is the best pint of Guinness I've had outside of Ireland. Most other drinks are a bargain price too. The location is very handy for the train station being just outside the rear entrance of the station. The landlady is a character for sure, lovely but I wouldn't cross her LOL. There is loads of seating, a pool table, darts board and often live music. Its big and airy with free wifi. I like it. It might not be somewhere i could take the kids or my parents but for value drinks and entertainment it surely can't be beaten. Amen
