I've always loved coming here because it puts you directly in contact with a community that is often misunderstood by folks across the political spectrum. Being able to sit down for a meal here is a great way to. For actively engage with this segment of Berlin's population. My tip would be to order a sandwich plate. They dope the rolled laffa in chicken fat and then crisp it up on the grill. It's worth topping it with judicious amounts of pomegranate molasses. I'd also recommend trying their baba ghanoush, which is greener and less mayonnaise-y than at other places.

Once you find a table, got to the host stand, place your order and pay and then wait for bliss. I kept it simple: the chicken shawarma plate. It was a large portion with an awesomely crisp sandwich, thinly sliced and juicy chicken, a pomegranate sauce on the side, small salad, and french fries - with mayonnaIse, of course, because this is Europe. I washed it down with a Fanta orange and left into the night, happy and full and glad to support a community that has faced so much adversity on their journey to Germany. This is a great choice for an affordable and excellent meal.

She was very nice and helpful. We learned that she has a cookbook published. I tried the kibbeh, a fried meat ball filled with nuts and spices and another one with dough and cheese. This is all in a food court and easy casual dining. I was very happy to try it and would go back.

I got Syrian sausages, hummus, and muhammara. Syrian sausage was a flavorful sweet sausage. Hummus was creamy. Pita bread did not taste fresh (1 star off). Muhammara was pretty acidic, probably a tad much on the vinegar (1 star off). I also ordered a stuffed eggplant, but it turned out to be an acidic vinegar artichoke and tomato dip, so not sure if something was lost in translation. There was no English menu, so it was certainly possible. They gave me a free side of pickles...wow, they sure like to use vinegar!

Halawet Jibn for dessert was the by far the best I tasted in Berlin, even better than that served by Arabic Pattiseries. Syrians have finally arrived in Berlin's culinary scene, and Syrian Shawarma is finally here…read more Now before you judge this as just another Shawarma joint, Syrian Shawarma is actually a bit different from the predominantly Lebanese variant around the city. Unlike the Lebanese variant, the Shawrma is prepared inside thin crispy bread, and the sandwich is purely made of meat/chicken and condiments and no salad, which helps one focus on the taste of Shawarma. Don't miss their 'Arabi' shawarma platters (see photo). They're delicious and come with a side of fries, garlic/tahini sauce, and salad.

Whether you are looking to gorge yourself on a Chicken Shawarma Plate piled high with veggies and French fries, or want a lighter option like Veggie Falafel, Shaam has something for you. Also be careful, never ever even think of eating inside there in winter, somehow the heating system is always off and it becomes crazy freezing freakin cold (maybe they don't have any heating system at all). About the food i tried most of their dishes, the Schawarma as i mentioned is really good but unfortunately only the Schawarma stands out to me there, all other dishes were bellow average; from soggy bread to fries that has zero taste (no spices) and not so fresh vegetables to oily greasy chicken escalope. in a nutshell, go there, buy Schawarma, pay, bye bye and go home eat it there.

Everything was drizzled with tahini, which added an unctuous, earthy flavor to every bite, and while everything on the platter was delicious, I especially liked the flavors added by the toum and chili sauce. The seating here was extremely limited, but the value and the flavors of the food definitely made up for the lack of atmosphere!
