Maroush is a tiny restaurant offering an affordable menu of casual Lebanese food. The Maroush Platter came with literally some of everything they offered: kofta (ground beef kebab), shish taouk (chicken kebab), makanik (Lebanese beef sausage), chicken shawarma carved from a rotating spit, fried vegetables (eggplant, cauliflower, zucchini, fries), falafel, halloumi, tabbouleh, grape leaves stuffed with rice, salad, pickles, hummus, toum, and spicy chili sauce, along with two rounds of pita. Everything was drizzled with tahini, which added an unctuous, earthy flavor to every bite, and while everything on the platter was delicious, I especially liked the flavors added by the toum and chili sauce. During my 6-day visit to Berlin I have been here twice. Now I am someone who always tries to try things new--especially in places I am in only for a very limited time. So what I mean is....THIS PLACE IS FRIGGIN GOOD! Here's what I had: DÖNER KEBAP in pita bread - €3 I chose the chicken meat and all I can say was this was an amazing pocket of treasures that I had buried in my mouth! Holy smokes was this good! That hummus sauce just did it with a small slab I chili crates the perfect taste and the right amount of spice. I loved tasting the fried potatoes and the meat was delicious! Within that were vegetables, going it that crispy fresh crunch since I was kid of a rich meal. I shared this with my sis and it was a great amount of food. Another thing I like about having all this in a pita bread is that it doesn't taste doughy. It's like the pita breads purpose is I only hold everything together. So you're enjoying nothing but all the flavored ingredients in this big pocket of awesomeness! This hole in a wall is a fantastic place! It has a sit down area like a restaurant than a food stand. The prices are super reasonable and the food was shareable! Sure it's in sort of a sketchy area part of town but it's conveniently close to the train station. One of the best falafels I've had anywhere anytime, and the platters look excellent as well. For some reason, Berlin has exceptionally good falafel joints - at least compared to the USA. Very fresh, lots of flavors going on, neat sauces. This one is above the pack. read more

Incredible food and huge portions! I got the chicken schwarma platter for about 7 €, but after looking at some of the sandwiches others were eating, definitely would have been full from just a sandwich (they're enormous). The hummus is amazing, and the meat juicy and well seasoned, and the platter also some with a small salad. The fries were underwhelming (pretty cold and very soggy) but I was full without eating them anyway. A decent amount of seating, including some hidden seating in the back of the restaurant. Berlin is full of Turkish kebab places. Which aren't bad, they're actually really good. But this place is actually Lebanese/Syrian and that does make a bit of a difference tastewise. But not in a bad way! What is really good about this place is that it's very affordable - me and my friends had 3€ shoarmas, both beef and chicken ones. And it wasn't just that the meat was different, they varied when it came to ingredients, in ex. the chicken one had fries inside. They were very tasty! But actually the menu isn't just shoarmas. Maroush is definitely one of the best cheap eats in Berlin and everyone in the Kotti area already knows this as evidenced by the lines out the door that you'll inevitably encounter during peak lunch hours. But they are pretty quick and efficient behind the two-man counter, so wait times generally aren't too long. You'll find some of the best taste-bud pleasing, stomach-filling deals here under their "Sandwiches" section. There are quite a few to choose from, all at the bargain price of 3€. The best of them that I've had (chicken schwarma, beef schwarma, kafta, and falafel), in my opinion, would definitely be the chicken schwarma sandwich and it's become my regular go-to here. It's packed with moist and flavorful chicken schwarma, deliciously soggy fries, a crisp salad and pickled veggie mix, and a tasty and tangy tahini sauce mixed in. They aren't finished there however. After properly stuffing the pita with all of the tasty ingredients, your sandwich is then put under a hot iron press, warming the contents of your sandwich and toasting the pita to a nice crisp. I was here with my foodies probably 100 times and each time it was outstanding. I love the food in this place, but the hygiene is lacking. The bathrooms have no soap, and the water faucet is defective. I'm going to guess that none of the staff wash their hands through the day's work. On the other hand, the food is prepared with bare hands. Combined with the obvious hygiene problem that this creates, it also tells me that this restaurant doesn't bother with hygiene. Are the vegetables washed?Are they soaking in cleaning liquid? Is the meat stored in appropriate conditions? Is the oil for the falafel changed regularly? (deep-fry oil becomes carcinogenic with time.) When a restaurant doesn't bother to even do the bare minimum of keeping a functional toilet, I'm afraid to even think about what happens in places that the customers don't actually see. It's too bad, because the food is one of the best among this type of places in all of Berlin, but I won't go eat there anymore, and neither should you. read more

An unassuming Lebanese place in the busy area of Kottbusser this place delivers on flavor and value. Don't bother trying to read the menu up top, its illegible, instead grab a laminated one and score a seat outside to people watch while you decide. The falafel wrap was my favorite! Tender warm falafel wrapped up with veggies and hummus in a toasty pita!! Amazing. The schwarma and chicken wraps are good as well with a hearty addition of fries inside to soak up all that booze. If you're extra hungry they have massive plates at a great deal! I had a mixed meat plate that weighed the same as a fat baby for under €10! I was taken here by a friend who said this was Lebanese cuisine. I've tried other places in Germany also claiming to be Lebanese cuisine (but as a fair warning, I'm not familiar with what *actually* constitutes real or good Lebanese food), and this place was not my favorite. Pretty much all I got on my plate was meat, meat, MEAT! Sausage meats, spicy meats, you name it, I got it. Granted, it was a HUGE plate, and there was lots to try, but a majority of it did not impress me. I'm more of a meat/carbs/veggies kind of gal, and I like a little more balance to my plate. Maybe the best falafel I've ever had...every trip to Berlin brings me to this place for several meals usually. There's some sort of spice that they use in the falafel that I've never had before that makes these delicious...cooked perfectly crispy as well. I'd recommend having it made spicy...We certainly don't have anything as good in Los Angeles. I'm also a bit of an asthma nerd and try to avoid dairy as much as I can...but the Halloumi sandwitch is hard to resist. The staff is great...they have to put up with many rude and entitled guest...mostly guest that speak some form of English unfortunately... People please be nice and patient with the staff...you're not in front of a fryer and a doner kabab skewer 40+ hours a week...and you're not the only person waiting to eat...you're going to get your food after the person who ordered in front of you...unless it was a special order then it could take a little longer. My favorite schwarma in Berlin for several years running, a must have every time I visit. The place might look dodgy to you if you're the pretentious type, but to me, it's classic hole-in-the-wall-delivering-explosive-flavor. The chicken schwarma sandwich is packed with saucy chicken, a smooth and intense tahini sauce, fries, and crispy vegetables. I especially like the introduction of what i think are crispy fresh slivers of pickled beet. At €3, the value is very reasonable too. Visit during off peak hours to avoid waiting and to get a seat. Great little place near Kotti. Their food is delicious and crispy fresh. The falafel are being made right in front of your eyes, the portions are huge! Maroush is pretty popular, so plan in some time when you go. I hopped over to get my lunch to go to go sit by the canal, which was not a great idea. We're walking down Adalbertstrasse and suddenly the most playful little shawarma bar was in front of us - Maroush. A little place with a few wooden tables. A quiet place where the owners son welcomed us. We ordered three beef shawarma in bread. As the food came in the first bite indicated that this was something special. A delicate and precise selection of lettuce, onion and tomatoes. Oh- the meat. Where to even begin. Grilled lamb, not to thick not to thin.
