Wow!! On a "lark", I popped into this fascinating store! I could go broke here! There's a lot to "crow" about! This is an ornithologist's dream shop! Your feathered friends will love you when you buy from this specialty spot! Birdseed, and feeders, and treats - oh my! This is not your grocery store feed, it's high quality seed, food, and suet. I was blown away by the selection of feeders, birdhouses and nesting materials. You will "crane" your neck to see all the amazing displays. For the novice to the seasoned bird watchers, you will find books for every level on their shelves. There's even a section of items for your furry friends! The bird baths and fountains are unique and the garden decor is adorable. You can "duck" into every nook and cranny which is filled with gorgeous outdoor paraphernalia! From flags to garden stepping stones, to chimes, to statues and figurines, this place has it all. I had my hands full of seed, hummingbird food and suet and the kind owner took it to the counter for me and answered all my questions. "Cardinal" customer service. Some of the prices seem high, but for the quality-I think it's worth every penny-they are not "robin" you blind. If you love birding, you'll love Yard Birds! I know this is a lot to "swallow" but you can tell I think this store is fly! Now it's your "tern" to tell me what you think!!

Owners spent time with us educating us on types of bird feeders and seed. Will return to purchase more feeders soon.

I went in for a kitty box and some cat treats, greenies (supplements), kibble, and canned food. The prices were more reasonable than I expected for a smaller, privately owned store. I pick up my dog food once a month usually so I have been going there for the past 7months. But today I went in tried picking up my dog food which my sister ordered, but the girl in the front was just completely rude. No, greetings or hi how can I help you and as soon as I walked in she completely looked at me different. Regardless I came in walked up and said I needed to pick up my dog food, she asked can I get a last name. Usually I order my food online myself so knowing my sister bought it this time I used my last name and completely forgot she has gotten married recently and changed her last name. So when I gave her my last name the girl in the front looked at me like I'm crazy but I showed her screenshots with the order number and receipt that shows everything. She completely ignored that and asked for the last name so I just called my sister resolved it and gave her the right last name. After I said the last name she just stares at me for a second gives me a weird look and turned to look at her co worker then she kind of slowly turned around as she's hesitant to give me the dog food. When she did give me the dog food nothing was said no thank you or anything. Kind of sad I've been getting my dog food here for about half a year now and this one incident will have me look for another place to get my dog food from. Maybe try hiring people that will have them come back and not feel uncomfortable JUST TO PICK UP DOG FOOD can't imagine walking around asking for help about food with the kind of enthusiasm that the employee gives off. Great to know that this would be the last time I spend my money here!

I'm returning to Sissy's bird colony today to adopt a few more beautiful birds. Her environment is clean, professional, experienced, and birds are healthy. The people who leave false bad reviews because you don't know how to care for birds are awful. There are many factors involved with caring for birds from vitamins, environmental air, water, temperature, attention and what you feed them. It's most likely not the breeder who had caused your birds disorders; it's what's going into and around the birds. Sissy is professional and experienced with many birds, and would never cause issues to birds. Like I said, I'm a returning customer and if the birds and Sissy weren't fantastic, then I'd be going to Petsmart instead of driving 55 miles. This breeder is 100% highly recommended; she's wonderful!

I hesitated to write this and postponed it for three years, using the time to educate myself and connect with avian specialists and researchers. The fabulous macaw which we adore and purchased from Sissy has an incurable condition called Avian Ganglioneuritis which is passed vertically through the egg. Lilly (Sissy) denied responsibility even though I made clear I have no requests from her part and the only reason I contacted her was to inform her so she can test the breeding pair and save future owners from going through this ordeal. We all need to come forward in order to stop the spread of this horrible virus that will eventually result into a painful death of our most beloved feathered family member. I can't recommend The Parrot Domain strongly enough. The owner, Anne, is almost always there. The…read moreemployees are all long-term employees, and the customers are frequently long-time customers as well. I met Anne in 2008 when my son turned 13 and wanted a bird of his own. After meeting my son, Anne directed us to the Hahn's Macaw. The Hahn's was a perfect choice for our son and he's become a beloved member of the family. Anne gave freely and kindly of her knowledge and expertise to ensure that the bird thrived. Then several years ago, I decided I wanted an African Grey. Anne hand raised them from just a few days old. It is a huge amount of work, time and love that goes into hand-rearing baby birds. I went to the store several days a week during the months she was being hand fed in order to bond with my baby and get her used to me so she wasn't frightened when I brought her home. Anne welcomed me at any time, allowing me to sit and cuddle my baby even if it was close to closing time. The Parrot Domain is in a stone house on Lafayette Blvd., with huge windows in every room, plenty of space to move around, and happy birds in roomy cages. You could eat off the floors, and the cages are routinely stripped completely and hosed down...The store is clean, the cages are clean and the play stands are clean. During the day the birds are rotated out of their cages so everyone gets play time and several times per day they are given fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds to enrich their nutritionally complete pellet diets. Even on days the store is closed, someone comes in at least twice per day to clean, feed, water the birds, change out toys and give snacks and allow them play time. Often there is a radio left on for the calming human voice. The boarding birds are kept upstairs separately from the sale birds (as they should be) and there are pumps full of hand sanitizer around the store. In order to board your bird, the owner requires you have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian, and you must bring her a certificate of health from that vet to ensure your bird is not bringing illness into the environment. Over the years, we've boarded both of our birds with Anne several times, once for more than a month while we were on the west coast visiting family. Our son called several times while we were gone and Anne actually took the phone in to the boarding room and allowed my son to talk with his bird. When it comes to the birds being "neglected and unsocialized" I would have to ask how the previous reviewer came to this conclusion? Given that she felt like she got poor service, this seems more like a stab at the owner than a legitimate grievance. If you walk into that store you will see important things - the resident birds like Max, Kiwi and Sirabi are all sleek, healthy, shiny, and talkative with nary a plucked feather anywhere. Neglected birds don't look like that. They pluck, scream, bite and usually exhibit signs of illness. It's pretty much impossible to have a hand-raised bird that is "unsocialized." If you were to look at the store Facebook page today, you'd see the photos of Anne's home over Thanksgiving where she posted about eating in the kitchen because the baby birds are in their enclosures taking up her gorgeous dining room table. Heating pads, stuffed animals for babies to snuggle with, and clean towels in their boxes. Those babies go back and forth with Anne for the months they must be hand-fed, and get 24/7 attention and socialization. I will say that Anne has carried fewer cages since she moved to the new location. And yeah, you can get cheaper cages online, but you also get what you pay for. The cages Anne uses and sells are top of the line, sturdy and well made. They last forever. The weaker and thinner cheap online cages bend during shipping and often aren't sturdy enough for the bigger parrots. Anne provides many services beyond just selling birds, she does in-home consultations if you need it and she offers grooming services from bathing to nail, beak and wing trimming to those birdy parents who are not able to do it themselves. I couldn't recommend a store or person more than I would recommend The Parrot Domain. Anne and her staff are the best, hands down!

There are so many birds with so little staff there is no way they get the attention they need so I would never board my birds here. Furthermore, the woman who runs the store has *terrible* customer service. By far the worst I've experienced anywhere... And on a continual basis. I've asked her for several items or assistance and she acts like you inconvenience her. Online they offer new cages for sale, but when I asked her about buying one she told me they don't sell any until she changed her mind and showed me old, worn down and expensive cages. Again, if there were any other options as far as bird care and toys I would definitely avoid this place. Even visiting the birds is sad for me as they seem neglected and unsocialized. :(
