Welp if you're weird and curious like me, then Rest in Pieces may be for you. The only purchases a gemstone clover, anatomy poster, and bottle of Dr. King's New Discovery! New Discovery was a medicine for consumption (tuberculosis) a disease which at the time was killing millions of people. Many companies offered cures and remedies for consumption. However, all were frauds, including this, which was actually a concoction made from a morphine and chloroform mixture, calculated to strike terror to the doctors or to any other class or profession, except, perhaps, the undertakers. It is a pretty diabolical concoction to give to anyone, and particularly to a consumptive. The chloroform temporarily allays the cough, thereby checking Nature's effort to throw off the dead matter from the lungs. The opium drugs the patient into a deceived cheerfulness. Add a touch of alcohol (to further dull the sufferer's pain, and hey, it helped (until it didn't) The combination is admirably designed to shorten the life of any consumptive who takes it steadily. It was pretty cool and the owner/manager was a blast to chat with as well. Quite a few oddities "not for sale" and most likely not a store for everyone. Check it out if you dare. No charge for admission. read more

Very unique store with lots of oddities, crystals/rocks (well priced) and taxidermy art. Bugs, beetles, butterfly's galore. Deff a fun little place to look around if you are around the area. Very unique and the lady working the front was helping multiple people while I was in there. They have some air plants as well. read more

Rest in Pieces - Antiques Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

One of the coolest shops in Richmond. This is my go to place for people visiting. I think it's so original and special to Richmond. I especially love that it's next to Hollywood Cemetery. It's the perfect spot for Halloween or just spooky season in general. The mix between taxidermy, plant life, and crystals is phenomenal. This spot is like a museum of oddities that you can shop at! The items aren't the only thing special, but the interior design is gorgeous. Everything is tied together really well. If you're confused about what this place has to offer, some of the things include: books, posters, furs, horns, bones, plants, herbs, crystals, preserved specimens, skulls, taxidermy, tarot cards, and more. They even offer insect pinning classes. If any of those things interest you, I highly recommend stopping by the shop. The people who work here are really kind and will answer any questions you have. read more

If you are curious about taxidermy, oddities, or crystals this is an awesome place to come to! So many cool specimens to see and a wide variety of crystals to pick from. It is a little bit pricier than some options I've seen but the atmosphere here would influence me to spend a little more. Very nicely laid out for a smaller space and will come back (: read more

I am so glad we have this store in Richmond. This is one of the coolest shops that we have in Richmond, the building mural outside is awesome and the decor inside is too! This store is perfect for gifts and if you are interested in things such as taxidermy, crystals, oddities, and more. Very well priced for what they sell as well. The staff is also extremely helpful and friendly every time we visit (which is often) read more

Stunning pieces and kind staff. I enjoyed this shop and will definitely come back for more oddities

Calling all budding biologists, entomologists, zoologists, botanists, and those whose morbid curiosity is alive and well! If you've ever experienced wide-eyed wonder at a natural history museum or wanted to be an archaeologist like Indiana Jones, you'll love Rest In Pieces. It's truly a hidden gem just down the street from Hollywood Cemetery. I've recently rediscovered my childhood interest in human and animal anatomy, particularly skeletons. Have you ever thought about just how amazing the body is? I've always wanted to know how things work, and it's absolutely fascinating to see these elegant, perfect structures that make all movement possible. So you can imagine my excitement entering this shop; I've truly never seen anything like it outside of a museum. They have an incredible variety of pinned insects, bats, preserved animals, and full and partial animal skeletons as well as curious antiques, plants, crystals, candles, and items relating to the occult. I was extremely pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything is, particularly the skulls. I've seen online stores selling the same species for hundreds or even thousands more than RIP asks, and of course there's no way of knowing what you're getting through the mail. The workers were incredibly nice, allowing me to browse right up until closing and answering questions I had about the skeletons. I was very glad to hear that everything was ethically sourced, meaning that animals were already dead when acquired by the store and not killed for the purpose of selling their bones. While I loved everything, I ended up purchasing a raccoon skull for $25, and the adorable specimen now has a place of honor in my home where I can study and enjoy it. read more

The shop is to die for... Trust me on this. I hate shopping in general (I stay in the car when people make Target runs), so for me to actually want to stop somewhere to shop, it has to be a pretty spectacular store. And this store is unique. The store itself looks almost like part museum part gift store. The outside art, intriguing window displays and the fact the entire building is painted black will draw you in. As an added bonus it is located close to historic Hollywood Cemetery. It's even better when you walk inside to a 80's goth and punk soundtrack. Because I am part science geek and part Wednesday Addams this place speaks to me. What kind of stuff can you find here? Just collections of funny, weird and creepy in a good way stuff like: 1) Taxidermied animals (not for sale due to state law). Nice stuffed beaver, though! 2) Wet Specimens-need a hedgehog baby in a jar? or a baby goat? (fyi-they assure you that all the ethically sources, most are still borns). 3)Funky jewelry 4) Ouija boards 5)strange but wonderful books 6) mummified bat 7) antique finds like strollers, masks (like the plague ones!) and maybe coffins. That's only a small taste of what you might find. They seem to really like two headed calfs here. The owners are friendly and very sweet. Despite the thousands of things I wanted to buy, I ended up getting a cool hoodie because I am not allowed to bring another jackalope for the mantle home. read more

Such a cool and unique place to happen upon. I travel for a living and haven't ever seen a store like this. Definitely check it out if you're into all things quirk and macabre. read more

The employees were very nice and willing to help with any questions we had! This is a really unique store, the vibe inside was very cool. The selection of crystals is nice which is what I went for, but there were so many interesting pieces there, I wanted to buy more. Terrible. The wait is obnoxious, not necessary. Masks for vaccinated people, but whatever. Their prices are ridiculous. After going to the oddities and curiosities expo, figured I'd try here. I really wish I didn't waste my time. Find better-- anywhere else. read more

I wish I could live in this shop, that's how incredible it is inside. It's a very specific aesthetic for a very specific taste so if you don't enjoy the beauty in death or the macabre aspects of life, just don't go. But if, like myself, death gives you life? GO. Go there now. You won't want to leave, the vibes are so good. It is soooo goals. read more

We drove from Raleigh to go to the museum and happened to see this store and went in. WOW! It was great! Staff was nice, store was clean and SO many cool things to buy. Not sure I've ever price shopped a snake in a jar before but the prices seemed really reasonable. My kids enjoyed it, too. We got some insense and burner and some spice looking things in bags (my goth child seemed to know what they were and has plans for them). We will go back for sure! read more

It's a rad oddity joint previously near downtown Richmond by Cary street, Now moved to the Hollywood cemetery area. They've got art, skulls, bones, jewelry, pins, old embalming tools, outdated medical equipment, creepy doll bits for sale, and edible mummy parts! (Just kidding on that last one.) They have something for everyone. It's worth a stop If you're in the area or not. The smell of incense reminds you of those old memories of high school when you lit it to cover the smell of musty basement and weed, and the 80's, 90's music playing really brings it all together. Oh the memories... You'll be thinking that an oddities shop only carries the most expensive brand of strange, but you'll be surprised to find that these come reasonably priced, check it out! 10/10 read more

I went to this store thinking it was an antiques shop- that is how it is listed on Yelp. This is not your traditional antique shop and I'm not sure I would call it that. Lots of dead things from animal skulls to taxidermy. A lot of books and material on new age/crystals, occult and related trinkets. Fine if that's what you are looking for... but it's not antiques. read more

Such a fun store to visit! Tons of interesting things to look at. Taxidermy like you've never seen, bones, bugs and butterflies, rocks and crystals, air plants, and so much more. Staff were friendly. Prices can be high but taxidermy itself is expensive. You can definitely find some good prices on things though. My son found an alligator head and my daughter loved a crystal keychain. Both were very reasonable priced. read more

They had a lot of interesting oddities and such to buy. I really liked the aesthetic of the store and the employees were very nice.

A wonderful realm of beautiful, macabre oddities. Chock full of eccentric items including old antiques such as caskets, syringes, burial wear, funeral plates, etc. They have a variety of books delving into the occult and paranormal - even books discussing modern criminality and cryptozoology - alongside crystals, pendulums and runes which adorn the shelves. The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and attentive and I bought some items that I'll treasure forever. All animal or insect taxidermy featured inside the store is naturally sourced or donated I believe, meaning the specimens have died of natural causes and are merely being preserved, with which I have no problem. An amazing store, we loved the experience and will be back next time we're on vacation (even if my wife is reluctant). read more

Cool shop! Definitely recommend. Great selection of crystals and some really cool animals.

Very pricey, but have tons of cool stuff!!! I recommend checking it out due to the awesome bug collection

Adorable creepshow shop. Anyone who's been to Richmond knows exactly where I get my jewelry without even having to ask, THAT'S how influential and important this store is to the local community! So, do yourself a favor and at least drop by, I'm sure there's someone on your shopping list that would appreciate it. And by someone, I mean that person who put their Halloween decorations up on July 5th. And if you don't have that person in your life, you can be MY friend and you'll know exactly where to shop for me! pssssst: hey RIP employees, you should seriously consider getting listed in Atlas Obscura, that's the first place that vacationing weirdos go to find neat things to do in their city of choice. read more

Checked this place out and was pleasantly surprised. The interior was very cool and they had a bunch of interesting things. The prices were reasonable. One thing that confused me a little was the amount of taxidermy in the shop. The taxidermy wasn't for sale so my friends and I were confused as to what the store actually sold. The merchandise that was for sale was a bit minimal but it is a small store. read more

If you are really interested in oddities like me than this place is must see! They have everything from dolls, coffins, animal fetus, skeletons, old medical equipment and jewelry. I entered the store and made a joke with my best friend and was told to leave the store. I said, "the neck of a giraffe was similar to my bestfriend" I was then told to leave." I was then told to leave the store. A simple joke with my best friend was turned into a crime. I am sorry if this was offensive to other people; however it was meant towards my best friend who understood. I will give you credit, as from my best friends previous account you are reputable store. Though, the encounter I had was different. What I ,experienced was completely different. Please be more understanding of your customers. Fun fact: one of the early definitions of "morbid" meant curious... hence "morbid curiosity". My point being, this is a true curiosities shop in the OLD old skool line of thought. If I had more money, you can bet the vast majority of my house would be decorated with items from here. If you've got a buddy like me with a twisted sense of humor and/or who's trying to fill her cabinet of curiosities, look no further. Yes, there's taxidermy shops further out in the counties, but none curated like this. Also, if you stumble on this review and happen to know me personally, this is where you should be getting all my presents from now on ::hint, hint, wink wink::: read more

Not for the faint of heart!! The owners are extremely knowledgable and very friendly. I could've spent hours looking at every item in the store. I highly recommend that you swing by, and keep checking back- it seems to be the kind of store that always has new surprises! read more

RIP is my favorite store in Richmond. Most of my own personal collection has come from RIP. Their new location (which is bigger and better) is now even closer to me so I feel like I stop in there at least once a week. It's nice to pop in even if I'm not buying something just to look at their collection. Although, it's pretty hard to go in there and leave without taking anything home with me. Great place to find a unique gift as well. They also now carry some VHS tapes and clothing pieces which I love. The owners have always been really cool, friendly, and helpful. If you're not from Richmond and love spooky stuff, stop by Hollywood Cemetery (in the same neighborhood) beforehand and make a day of it. read more

Amidst the oddities and collectables, there is craftsmanship at it's finest. Not only are beautiful pieces made right in the shop, they are made by professionals who's costumer service is on point. What is not made is carefully hand selected by the owners. As a filmmaker, I've rented a few props from RIP: each renting experience was smooth and beneficial to both parties. A wonderland of the peculiar and bizarre, this shop is a delight and staple of Richmond culture. To any local, visitor, or wonderer: go check it out. You'll be thrilled. read more
