I've been bringing my older (13 yo) dog here for several years. Everything has gone very smoothly,…read moreand today I was blown away by the pricing: He's grown a few lumps over the last couple months so I brought him in to check. They did the biopsy and analysis on three of them, and gave me the (benign) results in less than an hour. All for $143. I see people complain about pricing, but don't forget that the prices of vaccines and meds are controlled by big pharma, not by the vet! If you want to complain about that, you need to complain to Congress, not to the vet.

The woman working at the front desk was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in and said they would still see my puppy, even though I had accidentally forgotten the paperwork from when I got her. Once we were in the exam room, the experience continued to be disappointing. The veterinary assistant would not give my puppy back to me and spent the entire appointment holding and playing with her. She stood between my boyfriend and the vet, making it difficult for him to see the exam or communicate with the doctor. It felt inappropriate and uncomfortable, especially during my puppy's first visit when I was trying to understand her health and care. The biggest concern, however, was the reason I brought her in. Since we got her, she has had a very itchy ear. I brought this up to the vet, but I was told it was just a little dirt and that she was fine. After leaving, I felt uneasy and did not feel confident that my puppy received the thorough care she needed. I decided to take her to Manoa Vet, where they immediately took an ear sample and discovered she had a yeast infection. Thankfully, they caught it before it became worse and we are now treating it. I am extremely disappointed that this concern was dismissed so quickly, especially in a 3-month-old puppy who is fully indoors. A proper test should have been done instead of an assumption being made. Veterinary care requires patience, compassion, and attention to detail. This is Hawai'i, where we value aloha and treat our families--including our furry family members, with love and respect. Unfortunately, I did not feel that care here. Nor did I feel the Aloha! I will not be returning and have found the level of care and compassion I was looking for at Manoa Vet.

We had to switch vets once before finding this clinic, and ever since then, we've truly trusted and appreciated the care they provide. Everyone at the front is always so friendly and welcoming, and they always play with our husky! I totally understand that huskies love everyone, but not everyone loves a husky's playfulness, so I really appreciate the attention and love they show our dog. One time, our husky injured her paw with a deep cut that needed after-hours care, and I am forever grateful that Dr. Hsu was available to see her right away. Even though he had already left the office, he was willing to come back for her. I think the care they provide, the heart they put into what they do, and the genuine compassion they have for animals are such important qualities when finding the right vet. We've also utilized their in-house boarding services. At first, we were worried about how our dog would do, but she did more than fine and has loved going back multiple times. The boarding process is also very seamless. They take care of her daily meals, provide 3-4 walks a day, and if anything ever comes up, they're already a vet clinic, so they can provide professional advice and care right away! I highly, highly recommend their services, knowledge, and care. I will always trust my dog in their hands. 10/10!!

I called in with an emergency, and they were accommodating enough to take me in right away, which I really appreciated. As soon as I got out of my Uber, they opened the automatic door and immediately took my cat in. I ended up spending the entire day there, which was fine--my cat requires a lot of patience due to trauma he experienced before I adopted him, and they handled him with care. The only area that could use some improvement is communication between staff. I did have to repeat my concerns a few times. Their services are on the higher end price-wise, but if you truly love your pet, it's worth paying a little extra for that level of care.

They offered a second option of a bit over $2,000 where we would be able to take him home sooner and watch for symptoms/improvement, which we decided to take considering it was a holiday weekend and our regular vet wasn't open. We had to pay upfront, which I understand to be common with vet emergencies, but they were still pushy and tried to sell us pet insurance. The medication they prescribed seemed to somewhat help, but we ended having to have him stay over 2 weeks at his regular vet, where they had to monitor him. Their treatment cost was only just under $2,000 for the entire 2 week stay. Turns out all he needed was a diet change. No major interventions, unlike what VERC had insisted. Our regular vet asked if VERC performed a urinalysis (as they said they should have done before making any moves). We realized they hadn't. I think VERC is obviously a spot to go in desperation, but I would not return. I understand it's a business at the end of the day, but their practices made us uncomfortable. It's clearly a profitable business to get into. No wonder so many vets keep opening up around Oahu. Will remain wary and won't be returning to this one.

The staff at this clinic are extraordinary. I have nothing but good things to say about the past and current veterinarians: Dr Fujitani, Dr Kimura, Dr Lee Loy, Dr Casuga, Dr Lee, and Dr Tom. They are always available to answer my questions when I call or text them, even if it's to repeat instructions or clarify information they previously gave me. I have had several health scares with my animals and the staff at University VCA take a caring and balanced approach of concern and moderation. They will run tests or refer you to a specialist if you want, but won't force or guilt you into spending more than you feel comfortable spending. They have always offered me different courses of treatment based on budgetary needs. I have been into VCA 8-9 times in one month for a variety of reasons for my three pets. Because VCA offers CareClub, those office visits are covered, which is peace of mind when my animal is sick. I don't need to worry about paying for multiple office visits when my pet is sick. The receptionists (front office staff) at VCA university are amazing. They are kind, considerate, compassionate, and extremely patient. I have had to call them repeatedly to ask questions or clarify information, or order more food. The front office staff are always busy, yet they are also punctual, polite, diligent and always on their "A game". Knowing my pets are in the hands of true animal lovers at University VCA is a type of peace of mind that no amount of money could purchase. Thank you VCA University for always taking such fantastic care of my babies!

I have read many of their reviews and I see them trying to justify some of their discrepancies in pricing. My invoice was over $599 for a new cat check up, nail trim ($50+), a 5 minute snap FIV test ($220+), ear cleaner, and a fecal test. (Not including the $80 booster shot which after tax would've made it almost over $600). When they say: "When you are a new pet owner, it's hard to anticipate costs." ***My answer: I called two other highly rated vet hospitals on island after receiving my invoice, the other vet hospitals also confirmed this place was completely over charging me. When they said to me: "Hawaii is a lot more expensive than the mainland for vet care." ***My answer: I have had cats for 10+ years in CA, and now 6+ years in Hawaii, and my mother is an equine vet, there are differences, but not by hundreds of dollars for simple tests. I feel very slighted and that they target new pet owners who don't know a lot (they reached out to me first, I did not reach out to them days after adopting a cat, how did they get my information? It is on me for not doing further research). I don't think the technicians, vets, or front office staff are incompetent, I just don't agree with their service. I won't be going back. Also, there was leftover cat fur on the table when I went into the room, and I understand it does get everywhere, but it didn't seem like the most sterile environment for my cat at that moment.
