Their staff is the worst. Wouldn't let me talk to the vet and were very difficult to deal with.

Dr. Audrey Bolaños and her Vet assistant, ( I wish I had her name because she was excellent) both showed such kindness, patience and expertise, I instantly was at ease and their care exceeded my expectations. I definitely recommend King Street Pet Hospital and will be back in the future. I was pleasantly surprised the charge was very reasonable and to not have to pay surcharge due to Sunday same day visit was the icing on the cake.

A recent example really bothered me. During my dog's visit, the vet specifically told me she would NOT recommend removing his canine teeth. A week later, I received the estimate by text and, sure enough, canine tooth extractions were included as recommended treatment... at $400 a tooth! I obviously want the best care for my dogs and don't mind paying for things they actually need. But lately, it feels like the vets are being pushed to sell more services, almost like the main job of a veterinarian has shifted to something more like a used car salesperson; from providing proper and reasonable care to increasing commissions and gross profit. Really disappointing because King Street used to be a clinic I trusted completely.

We had to switch vets once before finding this clinic, and ever since then, we've truly trusted and appreciated the care they provide. Everyone at the front is always so friendly and welcoming, and they always play with our husky! I totally understand that huskies love everyone, but not everyone loves a husky's playfulness, so I really appreciate the attention and love they show our dog. One time, our husky injured her paw with a deep cut that needed after-hours care, and I am forever grateful that Dr. Hsu was available to see her right away. Even though he had already left the office, he was willing to come back for her. I think the care they provide, the heart they put into what they do, and the genuine compassion they have for animals are such important qualities when finding the right vet. We've also utilized their in-house boarding services. At first, we were worried about how our dog would do, but she did more than fine and has loved going back multiple times. The boarding process is also very seamless. They take care of her daily meals, provide 3-4 walks a day, and if anything ever comes up, they're already a vet clinic, so they can provide professional advice and care right away! I highly, highly recommend their services, knowledge, and care. I will always trust my dog in their hands. 10/10!!

Whether it be for tooth trimming throughout Cinnamon's life, treatment for URI's, or end of life services, Kalihi Pet Clinic has been my go to clinic for compassionate and timely care. They modestly acknowledge that they don't specialize in exotics care, but they always try their best to treat even their smallest clients. And if the problem is ever too big for them to treat, they refer out to a clinic that can. I have to give this clinic props for the kind and professional care they give. All their staff has been so respectful to my rats, even if they didn't expect to see rats in their clinic. Many of their vet techs have had pet rats in the past, and they're always so happy to see my girls and sneak in a cuddle with them. Not even clinics that claim to specialize in rat care treat them with as much respect and care as this clinic does. My most recent visit to this clinic was for a sad reason. To say goodbye to Oreo and Marshmallow. While I was initially told that I couldn't be present for the euthanasia, in the end they gave me the option to be present which I deeply appreciated. Doctor Obara and staff were all very kind and patient. My girls were able to pass peacefully cuddled together. Doctor gave me plenty of time alone with my girls, and also spent time with me in the room chatting about the ratties' personalities, their quirks, how special they are. It was very comforting and helped me to feel at peace with losing both at once. Thank you Doctor Obara and staff for all your compassionate care! I will keep bringing my girls here. If you end up with more rattie clients, you can blame me, because I recommend you to everyone I know with pet rats.

They offered a second option of a bit over $2,000 where we would be able to take him home sooner and watch for symptoms/improvement, which we decided to take considering it was a holiday weekend and our regular vet wasn't open. We had to pay upfront, which I understand to be common with vet emergencies, but they were still pushy and tried to sell us pet insurance. The medication they prescribed seemed to somewhat help, but we ended having to have him stay over 2 weeks at his regular vet, where they had to monitor him. Their treatment cost was only just under $2,000 for the entire 2 week stay. Turns out all he needed was a diet change. No major interventions, unlike what VERC had insisted. Our regular vet asked if VERC performed a urinalysis (as they said they should have done before making any moves). We realized they hadn't. I think VERC is obviously a spot to go in desperation, but I would not return. I understand it's a business at the end of the day, but their practices made us uncomfortable. It's clearly a profitable business to get into. No wonder so many vets keep opening up around Oahu. Will remain wary and won't be returning to this one.

I have read many of their reviews and I see them trying to justify some of their discrepancies in pricing. My invoice was over $599 for a new cat check up, nail trim ($50+), a 5 minute snap FIV test ($220+), ear cleaner, and a fecal test. (Not including the $80 booster shot which after tax would've made it almost over $600). When they say: "When you are a new pet owner, it's hard to anticipate costs." ***My answer: I called two other highly rated vet hospitals on island after receiving my invoice, the other vet hospitals also confirmed this place was completely over charging me. When they said to me: "Hawaii is a lot more expensive than the mainland for vet care." ***My answer: I have had cats for 10+ years in CA, and now 6+ years in Hawaii, and my mother is an equine vet, there are differences, but not by hundreds of dollars for simple tests. I feel very slighted and that they target new pet owners who don't know a lot (they reached out to me first, I did not reach out to them days after adopting a cat, how did they get my information? It is on me for not doing further research). I don't think the technicians, vets, or front office staff are incompetent, I just don't agree with their service. I won't be going back. Also, there was leftover cat fur on the table when I went into the room, and I understand it does get everywhere, but it didn't seem like the most sterile environment for my cat at that moment.

As someone who works in the medical field myself, I fully understand how schedules run, how delays affect the flow of the day, and why offices have late-arrival policies in place. At the same time, I also understand that good front-office support requires judgment, discretion, and a willingness to help when a situation is still workable. I arrived approximately 11 minutes after my scheduled appointment and had called the office twice in advance to let the team know I was running behind. This was a straightforward consultation regarding flea treatment for my dog - a brief visit that likely would have taken less than 15 minutes and I had already communicated the reason for the appointment and not to mention no other patients in the waiting room. Policies are important, but so is the way they are carried out. In this case, the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid and lacking in compassion. I left with the impression that the front office could have helped, but simply chose not to. Unfortunately, that experience did not reflect the level of professionalism, empathy, or reciprocity I expect in a medical setting and for that reason I will be seeking veterinary care elsewhere.

The Vet, Dr Pang, had poor bedside manner. Came in already dismissive of my complaints for my dog. She wasn't prepared when she came in the room. As if she didn't know why I was there. Said she couldn't examine my dogs nostrils because my dog is excited and keeps moving. Said we needed to sedate my dog. Didn't have any light or anything to look at my dogs nose. Some questions/comments she made that were annoying: "Are you sure she's five months old, she seems older cause she's big" "How did you look in your dogs nose?" "She's not sneezing now" "She seems to be breathing normal" (her first time meeting my dog, doesn't know my dog is not a mouth breather) "Did you hear reverse sneezing" (as if i know what that is) I had to get on the floor to help hold my dog so she would look at both nostrils or try to with a light. Also theres an exam table not sure why we're on the floor. She offered very little info into what she thought was going on with my dog. Only discussed further when i kept asking questions. She prescribed a steroid taper but on the bottle the instructions were incorrect did not indicate a taper. Did not appreciate her bedside manner and lack of trying to look at my dog for the issue i brought her in for. Then as i was leaving i got blocked in to the small parking lot by an employee that parked her truck with the bed blocking the way out. That employee came out and saw me unable to leave but waited till i asked her to move the truck to move it. Gets two stars because of the front staff.
