To begin, we have been unsure of this place for years for many reasons. Finally decided to give…read morethem a try, and boy do we regret it! My husband ordered a Diet Coke that they kept topping off during our time there. Only to find out they were charging us $4/refill! Mind you, the glass was filled to the brim with ice and barely any soda pop. Steak was subpar & dry for $70. Ambience.....2/10. Reminded me of my great grandmothers nursing home (rest her beautiful soul!) bill came out to nearly $200 for 2 steak dinners and 4 glasses of ice with a splash of Diet Coke. Would I recommend? No.

Let me start with the service...while our waiter was friendly she was not attentive to our table after taking the order. We noticed all the other tables had bread and we were sitting for 45 minutes after ordering our meals and did not get bread or even a refill or drinks or water. We got the attention of our server and asked for bread. 20 more minutes and she brought small basket with 5 pieces of bread (for a table of six waiting over an hour now). We asked for more and 10 minutes went by, so we asked again assuming they forgot. We were told it's in the oven. Finally, another small basket of 5 slices shows up in another 10 minutes. After 90 minutes our apps arrived. Seafood chowder was ok at best, raw clams were tasty, salads and dressings were very good. Our meals came soon after, but total wait from when we sat was 2 hours. Steaks were very good, salmon was average at best, seafood pasta was ok, halibut special was decent. Overall, the entrees were forgettable. We ordered desserts which were surprisingly fantastic. The rice pudding, crem brûlée, and their cheesecake/ice cream were all delicious. Now back to the service....by the time we finished dessert, not one water glass was refilled and the table wasn't bussed. We piled our empty appetizers and salad plates at the end of the table and they remained there the entire meal. I know many people had great experiences but this is a definite one and done as everyone in our party agreed.

We've walked past here many times but have never pulled the trigger, and we are so glad we did…read moretonight! They have been here for 2 years and 1 month as of April 2026. They have a pre fix menu mostly (it changes every month), but on Saturdays, they do the giant Liwetan communal eating, which is served on a banana leaf and meant to be eaten with your hands. Let me just start by saying that we are Hardena groupies. I have almost broken my phone screen trying multiple times to get my hands on a #notpizza box during the pandemic. This was the brainchild of Chef Diana at Hardena, and it was truly one of the only bright spots from COVID. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in). They also gave my mom tea when she asked for it, even though that's not something they normally offer. The interior is super cute and well-decorated, and that pink neon sign really shines nicely through the window. I will have to try to resist temptation every time we pass this (which is often), but I'm already thinking about when we can go back! Don't sleep on Rice & Sambal!

We noted "vegan" in our reservation and they were ready for us when we arrived! The menu for this small family-owned spot changes every month, and we tried the June menu. They present five fixed courses for dinner, and the service was warm and welcoming. We were blown away by the whole meal! I enjoyed every single dish, and my husband who usually doesn't love vegan food also enjoyed every dish. The flavors were bold, flavor-packed, tangy, and spicy. They also give you three unique hot sauces to accompany your meal, all of which had a delicious kick. Our faves of the June menu were Soto Kaldu Kering (house made noodles, lemongrass tofu scramble, bean sprouts, chives, ginger & galangal coconut oil, lime) - absolutely delectable chewy noodles and savory scramble and so much flavor - and the Sambal Caesar Salad (grilled romaine, vegan sambal caesar dressing, tempe crouton crumbles, grated housemade vegan cheese, shallots) - a suprising favorite, but the flavors were just so mouthwatering with a kick from the shallots, spice from the sambal, crunch from crouton crumbles. Highly recommend Rice & Sambal - we would come back to try another month's menu.
